  1. Baker Street (original Met platforms) I like. It harks back to it's 1863 originality but still being up to date and light & airy in feel.
  2. Second week Michael will be in Northern Ireland starting in Newry He will also be travelling to the Scottish Highlands 1830, Monday 11th February, BBC2
  3. "Damage caused by wear, normal use or improper use of the equipment is excluded from the warranty" Pretty well excludes everything then! Keith
  4. A few posts back there was discussion about Heavy Rail running through street islands in the US I have found this one in the UK where the Catterick Camp railway cuts through the centre of an island: https://www.francisfrith.com/catterick/catterick-camp-centre-1955_c50036 Originally this was a staggered cross-roads but later the roads were re-aligned and an island built, so the island came after the railway! It closed in the '60s (I think!) Keith
  5. You can see in Little Dan's original picture that the gear looks, at first glance, possibly in reasonable condition. As regard the wheels. I bought two of these locos in good condition at £20 ea S/H I swapped the one pair of tyred wheels for the plain ones off the other loco, then used Alan Gibson wheels for that loco. They don't have great haulage but do run reasonably well. Both have small DCC decoders. (You need to isolate the motor brushes for DCC!) IMHO for a 40yr old design they aren't too bad.
  6. I have seen them with 2 each end. Little Dan How are the plunger pickups? They need to be clean and free to operate and is one of the main complaints about bad running with the Airfix 14XX There should be 6 in total (I can see one in the picture), 3 connected to chassis and 3 insulated from the chassis. The long extension on the motor brush holder also has a plunger which reaches down to contact the bottom plate and the three insulated plungers, that should be free to operate as well.
  7. These days there isn't much difference between tablets and phones, some tablets have a mobile built in such as: https://www.samsung.com/uk/tablets/galaxy-taba-lte-t595/SM-T595NZKABTU/ The (smaller) Samsung one I have was available with and without
  8. Unfortunately human vision does not. Going above a certain definition is just promotional bullsh*t 4K sctreens on mobile phones? Pull the other one.
  9. Hi Iain Looks like I'll be sticking with the Lenz system for block detection. I don't fancy replacing all those RS 8s Keith
  10. Of Reverse Loop Modules. I have used these (I have 2) and they are superb as they don't rely on shorting the track. https://www.ldt-infocenter.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=en:ksm-sg Works fine with block detection as well. Keith
  11. Approximating to this view then: https://goo.gl/maps/56g83mzec172 Looks a good fit Even found a night shot: https://goo.gl/maps/38EWjKYxa4v
  12. Hi Iain Expressnet is not the problem! I would like to somehow dispose of the Lenz 100 set up and find some way of still using the occupancy detectors. I have 15 of them totalling some 100+ detected blocks. They use the Lenz RS bus, as do several other systems including the DR5000 but sadly not the Z21. The query is whether there is some way of using the block detectors with something else that can communicate with the Z21 e.g. what does the sniffer bus do? The only thing that I have so far heard of is the Paco RS2PC-USB which connects them directly to a PC via the USB bus. But how would you use it?
  13. I was trying to line it up with the google images and this was what I was looking at, which shows the elevated/covered section of road on the waterfront from Roosevelt Island. https://goo.gl/maps/aiCym1EViN82 So many buildings have changed. EDIT To get the angle looking up at the Chrysler I think you need to be in the East River nearer Manhattan than Brooklyn Like this: https://goo.gl/maps/DiiK5ab6s3S2
  14. I reckon it's taken from the south end of Roosevelt Island or nearby.
  15. Hi all Is there a way of connecting Lenz RS bus devices (occupancy detectors) to one of the ports on a Z21 (black)?
  16. Except some brewers use animal based finings. Therefore not vegan and really not even vegetarian.
  17. I've just had a go at attaching jpgs (in messages) and they went exactly where I wanted them by dragging to the position. I'm using Firefox on Win 10
  18. Well I got the bogie off fairly easy but there is no obvious cure for the sticky CCU. The floor above it is bowed downwards and restricts the vertical movement of the CCU somewhat. No sure what can be done about it. Cheers Keith
  19. Thanks for that. I'll, gingerly, try a screwdriver then! Cheers Keith
  20. Hi all Anyone know how to remove the bogies on these coaches? I have one of these coaches where the close coupling unit has become stiff, which leads to derailments on curves. Without removing the bogie I can't see what's going on. I've already knocked the footboards off with my banana fingers Cheers Keith
  21. Hi If I cut the firebox back sufficiently there will be nothing left! The M&L kit is quite a bit different as it is all whitemetal apart from the frames. The instructions are pretty naff as half the components aren't mentioned and some of the mounting holes don't exist! Unfortunately some of the parts aren't particularly accurate either. The spring(s) should have more curve and front to back length is too great, I managed to cobble the front ones but gave up with the rear as there would be either no front to the firebox or virtually no splasher depending which material was removed so I gave up. I'm still thinking about that! Cheers Keith EDIT. Looking closer the chassis is completely different as well!
  22. Pure American but built in Glasgow in 1882! Every bit a take on the original Rogers 4-4-0. Taper Boiler, three point suspension, outside cylinders with inside valve gear, "wooden shed" cab, bogie tender. Keith EDIT Probably the only Dübs in the UK https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shelton_Iron_%26_Steel_Works_No._4101 Several locos of types Dübs had made have been preserved but not a Dübs manufactured one! Also one on the IOM (not strictly UK) Manx Northern Railway 0-6-0T No.4 Caledonia Several in Australia & NZ.
  23. Hi all Following Micael Portillo's travels through Canada he will be returning to the UK. GBRJ Series 10 starts Monday 4th February BBC2 1830 Starting in the North West at Warrington, during the first week he travels around the North West & Midlands. Cheers Keith
  24. About those "points" Would they be classed as a railway system? Would they be classed as a tramway system? Or would it be classed as a guided busway? Discuss Note there are no flanged wheels and runs on rubber tyres but it derives it's power from a conductor rail. Keith
