  1. You're right, they do look much bigger. I will have to measure up. I think The Avonside is under sized.
  2. Shortened the tanks by 3mm to get correct length. The first cut is the deepest. Now working on chimney
  3. State of play with the three of the line's locos. L to R No6. Sheriff & Tindale
  4. Thanks for that Dave. It's the only photo that I have seen of Sheriff. Taken up at Midgeholme. As you can see there is a lot to do. I will have trouble with the splashers as they are so small!
  5. Trial fitting of main components on Sheriff, based on Figs 63 & 64 in Webb's 'Lord Carlisle's Railways'. The entrance to the cab is that narrow! Buffing gear and fiddly bits next.
  6. I've been side-tracked. 'Sheriff' a Christmas project. I've always wanted an 0-6-0T Barclay. As you can see, still a lot of work to do, but it's coming together!
  7. This is what I've got to work with for Howard Screens, every mm will count!
  8. Well, the B&T were going to build a line north thru' Ashington with a branch to Newbiggin. In the event the line got as fat as Ashington and the Newbiggin branch was built, however the NER had Amble sown up and also the NER takeover of the B&T was in the offing. The new 20 tonners look good, I have loads of Slater's, two of which I have motorised so they can run as if by gravity. I'm concentrating on the structures for W.H. first. There is still much work to do on the staiths!
  9. I was asked for a few more snaps of HBG. I am flattered. Work has started on Howard Screens and also Walkworth Harbour (in the Micro Section) I'll use this thread for H.S. if there are no objections.
  10. The shape of things to come, but don't hold your breath! (3' x 1')
  11. It's just I feel the model is finished and I don't want to repeat photos etc. However there is another module to be built, based on 'Howard Screens' essentially it will be a scenic F.Y. with a loop. As always don't hold your breath!
  12. Last one, and that's it for posts on this layout. Thanks for your support. Now what's next?
  13. If anyone is interested Hallbankgate (Tarnhouse, or whatever it's called this week), will be at the exhibitions mentioned below. Stop for a chat, I'm the fat miserable one in the unwashed woolly jumper Tyneside 2022 Model Railway Exhibition Sat 12th - Sun 13th November 2022 Jesmond Park Academy, Newton Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear NE7 7DP OPENING TIMES: SAT 10am - 5pm SUN 10am - 4pm ADMISSION: Adults £8.00 Family £16.00 Workington Model Railway Exhibition Sat 19th - Sun 20th November 2022 Energus Building, Lillyhall, Workington, Cumbria CA14 4JW OPENING TIMES: SAT 10am-5pm, SUN 10am-4pm ADMISSION: Adults £5.00 Concessions £5.00 Children £1.00 Family £10.00
  14. Propelling wagons, eventually bound for Carlisle Power Station. DOCP is a thing, honest!
  15. Seen at HBG today. The hopper is on the workman's coal siding, they used a ladder to access the coal in the hopper. I have enjoyed building HBG and have decided to continue the theme with a diorama of Howard screens, which were a couple of miles to the east, watch this space, but don't hold your breath!
  16. Hi Dave. There was a horizontal sheave under the tracks at the top of the incline, of course I can't find a photo! A survey of the area doesn't reveal any wheel pit, but it must have been there.
  17. Hi Ray, Well I have the 'Orange Valley Electric Rail Road' planned and some stock ready to roll including a juice jack and an interurban freight car, so maybe ....!
  18. My condolences to Iain's family and friends. In common with many of you this man completely changed the way I model and considerably raised my aspirations. Our wonderful hobby will be a lesser place without him.
  19. Sand and water facilities at HBG. The small, corrugated lean to at the back contained a pump to move water from the beck to the water tank
