  1. So after reporting to the yard foreman and donning a HV vest it was off for a look around. The first thing to see was the imposing A frame crane ( @mudmagnet models) used for changing components and unloading wagons on occasions. Psycho the fitter (Modelu) looks on wondering where he left his lump hammer. Harry the fitter’s mate is busying himself tidying up the yard on his forklift (West Hill Wagon Works). E
  2. So luckily today we managed to blag a trip around Red Card Yard. Fortunately we arrived by van (a re sprayed Corgi Bedford HA) as I didn’t fancy walking through the (Sankey Scenics) derelict housing that is due to be demolished shortly. After Passing the scrap metal skip (Skytrex) and a pallet of brake gear (West Hill Wagon Works) waiting to go in the skip we parked up in front of the main building (a modified Northumbrian Painting Services brick mess hut) where the sign reminded us to close the gate if we hadn’t done so. E
  3. Thanks Rob if it turns out half as good as Peasevern Yard I will be happy. E
  4. This will be Red Card Yards first outing. Pop along and say hello if you can make it. E
  5. I made the backscenes fro 4mm ply then I constructed the legs from the traditional 2X1, I did consider buying some trestles but decided against it as storing them would be an issue. I didn’t take any pictures of the leg construction and no doubt this is documented elsewhere but I did take a shot of the layout fully put up for the first time in my kitchen. I had started a bit of scenic work by then which I will detail in more depth later. E
  6. Thanks mate, hopefully see you in Taunton in October if you’re there. E
  7. Originally I had planned to have 3 sidings but this would have made things a bit tight scenery wise so as they say less is more so I opted for 2 sidings and a kick back siding to a small stabling point where shunters from the yard can be stabled and serviced. Apologies for the pictures but these were taken in the spare bedroom. My other layout Ayrwick Yard Stabling Point can be seen in the background, this has largely gone on the back burner since this project was started. The line side hut from Ayrwick is now resident on Red Card yard. E
  8. Initially I was going to make an Inglenook type shunting layout but inspired by @Nick G Cripple Corner and @Bungus th' Fogeyman Templegate Wagon Works I decided to produce something along similar lines so the small board was modified to include a sector plate to cut down on the number of points needed and keep things simple. E
  9. Quite true Michael but this repair facility is in the corner of a much larger marshalling yard so the wagons don’t have to travel anywhere other than over to the repair siding. If wagons were fit to travel they would have been labelled up for repair and sent to a place where the repairs could be carried out if they couldn’t be repaired locally, besides Green Card Yard doesn’t quite have the same ring to it!! E
  10. The project started back in February this year with the purchase of some base boards from Model Railway Solutions in Poole, these were of good quality and were recommended by a friend who had previously used them. The base boards supplied in kit for were duly assembled in a couple of hours.
  11. Hi folks I would like to introduce my new 6’x2’ O gauge layout called “Red Card Yard”. The layout was built for the up and coming Yealmpton model railway show on 7th October after I was asked last year to provide a layout for this years show. The layout is based on a small wagon repair facility in the corner of a much larger marshalling yard when such place still existed. The name is derived from the wagon labelling system used for vehicles that required repairs, the labels were attached to the vehicles so that the shunter was aware that the vehicle was defective and not formed up in a train. More to follow. E
  12. Can I ask if the crane is scratch built or a kit please, I’m looking for something similar. Cheers E
  13. Fitted these to some Heljan Mk1’s whilst the operation was very straightforward it was made unnecessarily complicated by the fact that Heljan had glued the buffer beams together on some of the coaches not all for some reason. Still happy with the end result. E
  14. Ex OOC and Reading 08836 residing at Laira at the West end of the HST shed on 05/05/21 E
  15. Hi folks Has anyone fitted these to a Heljan Mk1 please? be interested to see some pictures if you have any. Many thanks E
  16. Any chance you could repost the pictures associated with this post please if you still have them Neil, I have got a couple to crack on with - cheers E
  17. Love this layout, great work and very atmospheric for it’s size. I’m guessing the size is about 4’x2’ overall? E
  18. Hi Geoff No didn't manage to sort it unfortunately so took it back to the shop where I bought it, unfortunately they didn't have a replacement one. Waiting for the Heljan one to appear now. E
  19. So looked at this again today and as I said the CV's have been set according to Dapols instructions. I just happened to look at the unit from a different angle (looking up in to the saloon from below) and it turns out the lights are actually working but they are very dim to the point it is difficult to see they are on in normal daylight. Bearing that in mind does anyone know if it is possible to adjust the brightness of the interior lights without affecting the directional lights as the brightness of those is fine. If it is possible do you know what CV controls this? Many thanks E
  20. Hi folks Fitted an Imperium 3 8 function decoder to my Dapol O gauge bubble car today and set the CV settings to those suggested in the Dapol user guide. The front and rear lights work fine on F0 and F1 but can't get the interior lights or cab lights to work on any function, all the lighting switches are switched "On". Whilst I'm not to worried about the cab lights it would be nice to get the interior lights to work. Any suggestions on what CV's that might need changing please? Thanks in advance. E
  21. Hi folks Fitted an Imperium 3 8 function decoder to my bubble car today and set the CV settings to those suggested in the Dapol user guide. The front and rear lights work fine on F0 and F1 but can't get the interior lights or cab lights to work on any function. Is this another case of resetting CV8 as suggested above or something different? Thanks in advance. E
  22. Lucky you got it apart couldn't get the windows out of mine to fit the driver!
