  1. I am a fan of the Hornby Railroad range. I wondered if a direct comparison of the RR Vs full fat version of the same model would be productive. The model is a maroon MK1 TSO in maroon, see the shots below. The RR ones were <£20 when I bought them, the full fat versions now seem to be >£30 a piece. In summary, the only difference that my untrained eye can see is the extra transfers on the full fat version: on the windows, sole bars and ends. Easily and cheaply addressed. Oh, and fancier packaging. The finish on both is excellent, although the lining on the RR is a little more subdued, which actually looks better to me. At normal viewing distances they are almost impossible to tell apart. These days my philosophy is to ask if something is "good enough", having abandoned the pursuit of perfection due to a lack of time!
  2. Add some uprights to OHLE gantries and string the panels above the railway lines. Network Rail would make a fortune.🙂

  4. I have always fancied a lathe but could never justify the expense. Nor do I know quite what I might use it for, but the man cave seems incomplete without one! Then I saw this today: https://www.lidl.co.uk/p/diy-tools/parkside-lathe/p57760. I know it is not a Proxxon or a Unimat but for £90 it seems quite reasonable. I know, you only get what you pay for and all that. But.......has anyone any experience of one of these? Steve
  5. No idea where I got Alan from ...!
  6. Very close examination of these pictures shows no sign of the "ledge" between the tender body and chassis that has caused much discussion down the years. Are Hornby investing in a new Stanier tender to complement their "definitive" Black Five? Or is it just the CAD render? 🤔
  7. I have always found that Lidl will readily exchange/refund (delete as appropriate) if their products fail or are at fault. I believe they guarantee their power tools for 2 yrs?
  8. Mick, I called them using the number on the site - Alan(?) was super friendly and helpful, once payment was sent (bank transfer) the goods were received very quickly. Steve
  9. Thanks @JDW I hadn't thought of that, sheeting might be the answer. Thinks.....!
  10. Hello everyone, I have some spare Cooper Craft BR coach bogies and I was thinking I might use thm as wagon loads. Were coach bogies moved this way and what wagons might be used to move them? Thanks in advance. Steve
  11. I have a small hand held screwdriver and wondered if anyone had used one of these to convert it to a drill. Seems like a possible and very cost effective alternative to the Tamiya drill? The Amazon reviews are a little mixed, but for <£10 it is probably worth a punt? Steve
  12. Hi John, Thanks for the update, we managed to generate 49kwh in December and 515kwh since the installation at the end of August. The real shock for us was our gas bill in December, which topped £430! With the new tariff from Jan1, I am not looking forward to the next 2-3 months. We were almost £1000 in credit in October, but this has been whittled down to <£600 now. Seems like Eon were right to hike my DDI, but we will see. Let's hope for a sunny 2023! Steve
