Thanks for posting the photos of the painted samples Brian, the van looks really good.
On the open, though, it looks to me like something isn't quite right with the area below the doors (is it a rave? I'm not sure), it looks to be too deep when comparing with this picture from Paul Bartlett's site:
http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/broaa/h33b6a851#h33b6a851
The other thing that makes me think there's a minor discrepancy in this area are the brackets below the hinges - they look a little too square on the model compare to the photo. It's only minor though, overall it looks pretty good.

He proudly came home saying he had made a bookmark in craft class, handy for those who are studying german history maybe?
Things like that, and the kettle, always remind me of the Hitler house in swansea:

That's not my point!! It's the so called recession that everyone keeps moaning about, saying they have no money for anything, yet here we see people prepared to spend a king's ransom on a 4mm model. It makes me "laugh" to hear that people don't have money these days; it's utter rot.
Even when the majority haven't, some will always have. Same as it ever was.

Thanks - I have, although it's still had to judge the unpainted model, I don't think the doors project far enough.
Brian, is there any chance you could take and post a side-on picture of the open, please?
-
The van looks good. It might just be the angle of the photo of the open, but it looks like the doors and the solebar are flush, where they should be slightly proud. It's hard to tell on an undecorated sample.

Next step is to work on the robot crane that runs on top...
I can confirm that they're not robot cranes - each one has someone driving it!
-
Nice bird on the side, a shed mascot? I take a wild guess with something to do with Liverpool?
As Ruston mentions, it's a Thornaby (Middlesbrough) Kingfisher.

Sheltering from the rain, waiting for a train. Pity about the B4 bogie though.....
Bishops Lydeard?

Reading through this most interesting thread, with all the various useful links, it just strikes me how sad it is, that we cannot find a railway-orientated use for this fascinating bit of infrastructure.
It is indeed. The UK needs more of this:
-
A signal controlled entry to the tramway and another controlled exit from it onto the main line. I believe those signals may still exist.
They were still there a couple of years ago, so presumably still there now.

This really shows the gradient on the incline.
I love those trap points, protecting the main from anything that might run away up that incline

PS Mark, a Class 14 has to be a must on JH........
I think that's the most sensible thing I've ever heard you say (write?)
-
Ultrascale have completed about a third to a half of the total orders for the conversion packs - about 70 of which are for P4.
That's good to know, I won't panic just yet!
-
Brilliant timing, the Ultrascale P4 wheels arrived a couple of days ago.
That's interesting, I'll have to check mine as I've paid for them but haven't heard anything yet.
-
Top stuff Mark, I can't believe that I've only just discovered this lovely little layout.

Not been a post in a while
Ah well, at least you didn't waste your first post. Oh.
Do we have any updates on boxenby.
Clearly not at the moment.
Be patient, I'm sure some more quality modelling will be along here soon.

Thanks for that, Pugsley – those braids are a bit thin - I'm looking at 0.8mm, and at 'snake chain'......
Of course! I think I had my 4mm scale head on when suggesting those.
-
Di's had an awfully good idea for the wire rope (albeit expensive) so I shall do some experiments, and we'll see.....
I'm not sure what that good idea is, or how expensive, but Eileens sell what they call microbraid, which is essentially a mini stainless steel wire rope:
it comes in two sizes, either 0.31 or 0.45 mm diameter.
-
That's seriously cool
-
And the Lunester Lounge?
I don't think we need to worry about them
-
You mean it's not?I would worry though when the size of the rivets starts to become important...

Would that really still have been used in the 1980s to 1990s?
-
Is there anything small enough here?

I can recommend the company, having had dealings with them before.
