For those playing along at home, the American auction of GWR names, numbers, etc., was yesterday.
https://www.leonardauction.com/auction/auction-310
Looking through the hammer prices, a lot of the plates undersold or didn't meet reserve. There were a few exceptions, like a LMS Princess plate that went astronomical, but things largely stayed down in price. I'm guessing it was because of the sudden saturation in the wrong market. But it was very exciting overall to watch all afternoon.
I'm still contemplating the reality that I might have acquired a matched name/number....

Strong value for non- GWR plates though:

Good stuff. Nice to see a 7mm layout that has actually considered scenics. Love Lane is another. Mostly they fall into the "how much track can I ram into the boards".

Afternoon all,
Many thanks for the kind words. All done and back at Chateau Sheep. Much numbness and slings but a pretty good effort from all involved in the treatment.
Time will tell what, if any, difference it makes but it's worth a go.
Rob
Medicinal brandy. On prescription. Sorted.

Picking up a point from a couple of pages back ( dangerous but here goes )......
Fiddly yards.
Yep, I struggled at Uckfield and at Railwells on occasion with Ewe's fiddly yard being to the right of the scenic section. I tried both combos, as in holding the controller in the left hand or right and uncoupling vice versa.
Conclusion.
It's not necessarily the position of the fiddle yard but the position of the DCC panel that causes the drama to unfold. Hopefully NotenoughPanniers, sorry, @2ManySpams can help out here ( assuming he's not busy ordering several Accurascale Panniers of course ) but I felt it was easier when we changed the short controller lead for the long dangly lead, thereby allowing us to stand further to the left of the layout.. Of course at Uckfield I didn't change the lead.....or did I ? ......any hows, this subject needs thinking about.
At present, the new layout will have the fiddly yard on the left, back to normal S.O.P. but nothing is finalised as of yet.
And no, I haven't drawn a plan as I've not got a beer mat or old envelope to sketch it out on and the Memsahib has occupied the dining table to conduct pre-Crimbo craft activities.
Rob.
Sorry, was busy not buying Pannier tanks...
I must admit I didn't have a problem with the fiddle being on the right, particularly once the longer controller lead was put on. Despite being right handed I tend to hold the controller in my left, which leaves my right hand free to do uncoupling and, er, twiddling with Rob's nob.

At Lindfield, NSW, there are two businesses occupying adjoining premises on the Pacific Highway.
A veterinary hospital and a gourmet butcher.
There's something slightly concerning about that. Can't put my finger on just what though.

The devil is in the detail and I don’t think you can model the devils Pannier 4666 from this first announcement batch.
Obviously gutted with that news...

I'm sure I heard a loud cheer coming from the general direction of @notenoughpanniers towers. I'm sure that we can all agree, it's just what he needed.

Just purchased..... more petrol and matches.
(From looking at the AS website and noting the significant number of pop-up boxes notifying viewers of panniers being bought, I suspect AS will do very well from this announcement.)

I simply can’t believe Heljan have announced the LNER Garrett in OO - of which there was only ever one built - whilst we’re still waiting for a decent Saint (77 built) and County (30 built)! I just don’t get it. Can anyone tell me?
I think it's just a case of oddities, or pretty liveries and "famous" locos sell. From content on YouTube and other general platforms, it appears that the majority of buyers and layout builders are agnostic to era and location. They just seem to want something nice and or different to look at. I suspect to them one GWR 4-6-0 looks like any other and yet another variety of them won't relieve them of any pennies.
I believe that "We", as folk that are interested in a location and period, are in the minority and are not the target audience.
I'd love someone to produce an update of the Maunsell N class and also some of the other Southern moguls (U, K, N1, U1) but I'm not holding my breath on that one. In the meantime we have further ER Pacifics and oddities like the Garrett...

Real time generation by type. No waves and tides, some wind (variable), lots of gas etc (also variable).
https://electricinsights.co.uk/#/dashboard?&_k=cxuk68
The UK can't rely on Wind for rail use though. Nuke is part of baseload, currently at a constant 10 - 15 % or so. Were stuck with Gas as a variable base load generator for as long as I can see. Only one nuke plant being built. Many others are old and have closure dates, some are past their sell by date.
No wonder diesels thunder past my house alongside the electrified WCML !!
Brit15
2 currently being built. HPC in Somerset and SZC in Suffolk.

Always a pity with these that you effectively lose a column of storage in the corner. Could you modify to miss out the internal vertical that blocks in the corner?
I think you should use the 4 hidden cubes as a time capsule. Something to find in a few years the next time you have a move around.
I would put any misbehaving cats and all panniers in there for starters.

Morning all,
Well, yesterday was interesting. NHY minor managed to open his RTA account by torpedoing a Bentley which emerged onto the road in front of him and crossed his bows. Front end damage to Tom's Fiesta and considerable and no doubt significantly more expensive damage to the entire side of the Bentley.
Crucially, no one was injured and there's just the damage to resolve. Driver of the Bentley has been on touch and seems a decent type. These things happen......
Therefore progress on the Room of Doom was understandably compromised but I'm hoping to pick up the first of the shelving units this evening after work.
What has become apparent is that there is a degree of compromise in what will be the new Room of Doom, of which more in due course...............
Rob.
Did NHY Minor not appreciate that Bentleys have right of way at all times in all situations?

Back to the Accurascale Manor and a comparison of the two tenders offered for the GWR/G Badge W versions. I also like here the different drawbar settings for connection to the loco, although the really tight setting causes a binding on my up curves rather like my Bachmann Hall does . I think the riveted tender looks nicer. 7818 was actually running with the intermediate type from 06/46 but changed to the tender modelled by A/S in 10/47.
Nice post and wire fence...

Probably not much of a saving once you factor in the cost of picking all the parts, packing them so they don't get damaged and can be readily identified, and chucking in a big box with a destruction manual. Not forgetting people contacting the manufacturer with questions, requests for replacement parts and complaints that it's too difficult. Would all that be worth it to a manufacturer for the handful they might sell?
