According to Royal Mail, mine should be with me by 3pm tomorrow.  The waiting is nearly over. Might even get the chance to “run it in” at Mickleover Model Railway Exhibition this weekend 👍

Ah! this weekend? that clashes horribly with the Elizabethan ☹️

It's worse than full volume class 20's on the next layout at an exhibition, but not as bad as the US layout on the other side with the bells dinging all day at full volume!!!!

or the video trader running his US railroad videos all weekend - ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding ......

I have been to shows where the last hour is ridiculous. These are usually ones which stay open later.
The CMRA one at St Albans stayed open until 6pm in January. I was there a few times as an exhibitor & it was often totally dead from 5pm, with nobody other than exhibitors wandering around waiting for the show to close.
I also exhibited at the Bristol (Thornbury) show once & that stayed open until 6.30pm. Like St Albans, after 5, it was only exhibitors walking around.

Some organisers need to realise that most exhibitors are volunteers & exhibiting can be tiresome but socialising is an important part of the weekend. Staying open late when they are not getting any more visitors can put people off from exhibiting (I have refused for this reason before now).

It works differently for different shows though. I have exhibited at Warley, GETS & Modelrail Scotland, all of which do stay busy until 6.00, but most do not.

We used to finish at 4pm on Sunday at the Mansfield Show and as you say, the last hour was basically just exhibitors and traders walking round. We have now changed to 3pm which works well for all concerned. We remain open until 5pm on the Saturday mind.

  4. My O gauge Pug is now HM7000 sound equipped and can be seen in action on Fourgig East this weekend. I will also be testing a pre-production Legacy Dongle connected to a Select controller to see how this performs in a live environment too.

Question is can I control my locos with a smartphone 🤣

Powercab will be on hand if not ......

I assume that the application wasn’t serious enough for the FIA to consider, given the female driver isn’t even close to a super licence.

Now that is a closed cartel

I would publicly give Verstappen team orders to help Perez. Let's see what balls the Red Bull management really have?

Pointless, Max has demonstrated already that he will just ignore team orders that don't favour him

or change to DCC ready (and wait for ANO).

A good approach if you want to hear the sounds before committing - it will be easy to get a TXS decoder later and load the sounds yourself. If you don't like them, use the decoder in another loco and load a different profile via the app 😉

I asked Hornby if there was a demo of their soon to be delivered Turbo'.

    This was the reply:

Thank you for your email, we do not currently have a sound demo available for the Turbomotive. We are very pleased with the Turbomotive profile and what we have been able to achieve with is, asking development, they have asked me not to pass on specifics until we are able to market the model properly as and when it arrives. I am sorry I cannot be more helpful than this at the moment.

Incredible! Basically if you have a pre-order, then pay for it now and wait and see what you get. At the price being asked .... no chance.

I will be cancelling my pre-order and wait to see what turns up.

I see Wheeltappers have the Turbomotive under development.

The Turbomotive sound scheme is not completed yet, so how could they in all seriousness release a sound demo - there would be inevitable complaints that it was not complete etc etc etc. It is close though - patience is a virtue so they say

  9. Back in the early days of Summat Colliery I set it up on the Friday evening at a local show only to find that my DCC controller - a Bachmann Dynamis would not connect. The handset flat refused to see the base station no matter what I tried. There was something in the room that was swamping the IR. Luckily my operator for the weekend brought his Powercab in on the Saturday morning. I bought one myself the following week and sold the Dynamis.

Thankfully it was a local show and I'd decided to set up Friday evening to have a bit more of a lie-in on Saturday morning. If I'd turned up on Saturday morning to set up I would have been stuffed.

I'm back there next month with my O gauge layout Fourgig East - still with the Powercab 😉

What customer, by any given scale of normality, spends the price of a small house on a watch? Not a normal customer, just one of the obscenely rich.

not a small house in Mansfield, it’s all a matter of scale/income etc 😉

Thanks for that. Shame as I had thought about converting quite a few of my locos, but if it's not compatible. I'll have to think again.

It is, but in reality the Powercab is an old design, using an "in-house" communication protocol rather than something more widely adopted like XpressNet. In the end I'll probably migrate to a Z21 unless I can pick up an Elite cheap. It all depends on if I can control locos ok with a smartphone at an exhibition. I will hopefully test this with my Select and prototype Dongle at the Elizabethan show in October.

Does anyone know if the dongle will work with the NCE Powercab?

    Many thanks

Sorry (for me too) no ☹️

I'm trying to get folks in MERG interested in producing either a converter or an NCE specific dongle, but that needs a production version released first to test etc.

The Dongle is still in testing at the moment, we are awaiting an updated version of the firmware to address issues already found (I can't say what they are)
