  1. The law of large numbers may have something to do with it too. Tony
  2. Coming the other way, down the hill. The chevron signs are individually mounted on poles. They used to be attached to the railings. The workmen in the photo were replacing gas mains not straightening out the railings on that occasion.
  3. The corner in this photo could do with bigger chevrons. For some reason motorists leave the road and demolish the railing and bump up against the fence round the cemetery.
  4. Another good idea is when the sharp bend chevron signs are somewhat wonky and damaged.
  5. We miss the common hawthorn a neighbour chopped down. (restricted light, too many leaves apparently ) that was full of birds , sheltering or feeding at various times of the year. I might plant one of the red ones in our garden, but I will need to move the sheds a bit. Quite large ones are not particularly expensive. I really can’t believe we have to put up with nasty leylandii but a really old hawthorn got taken down.
  6. Doesn’t need one. The double broken white lines mean the same. I now now notice Polybear has made the same observation. I think a lot of people driving in my town don’t seem to,understand white lines. Though in some cases they are very worn.
  7. The present version certainly isn’t version 1. There were previous versions , some of us who survived the RMWeb near extinction events were around then and there are allegedly some people who can recall it being hosted by Dial.Pipex (who I used for my very first home dial up internet service). ER was first initiated by Gordon S who wanted someone to talk to while he was waiting very early at airports to travel on business.
  8. I only plant native trees and plants in our garden. Native to this planet
  9. How about “ it will make it so much safer when I bring you home if you have the other eye done”
  10. The data could easily be analysed that way.
  11. Read the report. I am all for healthy eating but suspicious of crappy use of statistics.
  12. I think when we had cars in the 1980s brake shoes were replaced more often due to leaky hydraulic contamination than wear. My Astra GTE used to eat front brake pads. Everything more sensible owned since then have been pretty reasonable. The Evoque front and back needed replacing at the same time, last service which was about 28000 miles.
  13. Did you do the back brakes as well? Does Mickey only have rear discs or some auxiliary handbrake drums? My first Freelander had drums for the handbrake, in addition to the rear discs. It looked complicated. The rear discs needed replacing on the Evoque at the last service. I didn’t even think about doing it, too complicated disabling all the safety stuff.
  14. If the amount of certain chemicals naturally occurring in broccoli and other cabbagey veg were found in a manufactured product they probably be classed as not allowed for humans. Cooking methods reduce such toxins.
  15. Can’t resist a multilingual pun…
  16. According to the ingredients contains “burro” . Don’t tell Donk…
  17. In my case the Midlands have got wider.
  18. After waking up this morning it was apparent that neither of us had recovered from the viral infestation. We managed our usual Sunday breakfast of croissant and decided we would do very little. I decided I would change the bed linen. Aditi decided she would make some mashed potato. She succeeded. I managed to find out out that an unwelcome complication of my cold was a nosebleed. Thanks to some of my medication my bleeding nose can be difficult to stop. My friend who caught the virus at the same time hasn’t been well, enough to work and this is one of her busier times of the year so she had had to employ some temporary staff to care, for the dogs she is boarding. I am sure Aditi is recovering quicker than either of us but she thinks she didn’t get infected at the restaurant anyway, she caught it from me. She is generally quicker at getting over infections than I am. Tony
  19. Same here. I think documentary production got very expensive and from looking at the end credits many became co productions with various international broadcasters who all wanted input and editorial control, ending up with a general interest product rather than a specialist programme.
  20. Operated by key workers…
  21. I have read about people who adjust their clocks early and then other family members arrive home and adjust them again.
  22. I did go out into the garden but only to pick up the garden chairs that blew about a couple of days ago . I also went next door to retrieve the wrongly delivered (no house number) package that Evri had delivered. Neighbours were so scared they were about to have a break in they were preparing to return from Wales. Anyway I used the extract text from image tool and got the correct tracking number (it wasn't what it looked like!) and over the road neighbour phoned people along the road he had done building jobs for to,see if they knew who the named person was. It was one of those names that can either be a forename or surname. The mysterious visitor at the neighbours was the young man who had contacted Evri and had come looking for the front door shown in their photo. Anyway the nice lad had been united with his packages, the neighbours have been calmed down and will enjoy Easter in North Wales. I asked my neighbour to withdraw her police report of the suspicious character at their door. She had done so.
