  1. But it turned out not to be malignant.
  2. They are so versatile…
  3. Dinner , though it was more of a snack, ended up being poached eggs on toast. I had forgotten we had already eaten some beans at lunchtime with the baked potatoes. It is all simple food at the moment while the pestilence persists. We always keep stuff like Rösti and fish fingers in the freezer in case we need to rush over to MiL. Having something to eat about 20 minutes after getting to Enfield is worth keeping. I am sure I have mentioned before I quite like baked beans, nowadays the Heinz reduced salt/sugar version. I am very aware of all the other bean based options available from all over the world and have had many of them, However, I do enjoy baked beans, and they have their own reserved shelf space so we can see when more need to be purchased.
  4. I honestly only squeezed it. I had thought I was losing my grip a bit recently too. I have never had any problem opening jars but have had to using one of those things to deform the lid a bit to break the seal. As for the procedure I didn’t feel a thing. I now have a scar instead of an abnormal naevus but I can’t see it so am not bothered!
  5. When I was at secondary school, one of the tasks in the earlier years was to carve something out of polystyrene and put it in a sand moulding box and pour molten aluminium alloy in. Some boys got to polish and mount their work for display. The rest of us just got it chucked back in the melting crucible.
  6. We ate the last of the potatoes today but I think we can last out until the next delivery on Friday. I have absolutely no problem with the chips or Rösti hiding in the freezer. Might even have some baked beans, not frozen though.
  7. I know someone who drives a school minibus. Before taking on that task (“something to do”) he had worked a driver for the Met and before that had been a Para. I asked if he had trouble with badly behaved students. He said not.
  8. I did at first read that as three dozen!
  9. I am not quite 6 foot tall so there are plenty of people taller than I am. However I am convinced all hospital beds seem a bit short. When I had to lie on my front on a trolley to gave a biopsy on my back recently I asked what should I do with my arms. Letting them dangle seemed best but I was told to grip the pillow. So I did and it made a popping sound. Fortunately I had had only burst the hygienic cover.
  10. I quite liked Twitter for local information, but mine was quite locked down with lots of blocks etc, it isn’t the same at all now that it is under new management. I hardly ever look at Facebook. There are a few overseas people I use it for to keep in touch with, usually people in family WhatsApp groups that I have left because other members are irritating. If it is important Aditi will tell me. Other than WhatsApp Aditi doesn't use any social media.
  11. I only used LinkedIn for some research. Aditi was being bothered by HR at her last place of work and part of her argument was that the things HR were saying to her didn’t seem right (as in having some legal basis). They assured her they did and all their policies were based on best practice. So I set up a profile for the dog, used it to look,at the HR team. Not a qualification between them. They had selected various people for voluntary redundancy with a a threat of compulsory redundancy with poorer compensation.
  12. Nothing exciting happening here. Both still unwell but showing signs of improvement. I had an impressive nosebleed again today. The Miele freezer ice tray makes nostril sized and shaped ice. No idea why they supply such an odd accessory but very useful. Tony
  13. The law of large numbers may have something to do with it too. Tony
  14. Coming the other way, down the hill. The chevron signs are individually mounted on poles. They used to be attached to the railings. The workmen in the photo were replacing gas mains not straightening out the railings on that occasion.
  15. The corner in this photo could do with bigger chevrons. For some reason motorists leave the road and demolish the railing and bump up against the fence round the cemetery.
  16. Another good idea is when the sharp bend chevron signs are somewhat wonky and damaged.
  17. We miss the common hawthorn a neighbour chopped down. (restricted light, too many leaves apparently ) that was full of birds , sheltering or feeding at various times of the year. I might plant one of the red ones in our garden, but I will need to move the sheds a bit. Quite large ones are not particularly expensive. I really can’t believe we have to put up with nasty leylandii but a really old hawthorn got taken down.
  18. Doesn’t need one. The double broken white lines mean the same. I now now notice Polybear has made the same observation. I think a lot of people driving in my town don’t seem to,understand white lines. Though in some cases they are very worn.
  19. The present version certainly isn’t version 1. There were previous versions , some of us who survived the RMWeb near extinction events were around then and there are allegedly some people who can recall it being hosted by Dial.Pipex (who I used for my very first home dial up internet service). ER was first initiated by Gordon S who wanted someone to talk to while he was waiting very early at airports to travel on business.
  20. I only plant native trees and plants in our garden. Native to this planet
  21. How about “ it will make it so much safer when I bring you home if you have the other eye done”
  22. The data could easily be analysed that way.
  23. Read the report. I am all for healthy eating but suspicious of crappy use of statistics.
  24. I think when we had cars in the 1980s brake shoes were replaced more often due to leaky hydraulic contamination than wear. My Astra GTE used to eat front brake pads. Everything more sensible owned since then have been pretty reasonable. The Evoque front and back needed replacing at the same time, last service which was about 28000 miles.
