  1. That was on rmweb 1 or 2 IIRC. The data has probably been lost now. I seem to recall he superimposed a class 20 bonnet and NBL cab.
  2. I think it was just D6123. No doubt the loco had an entourrage of BR technical staff with it to see how the mods were done, and get some gen on the Paxman Ventura.
  3. One thing I have found out is that the bogie gear casings are very low, and they can get stuck if point motor pins aren't properly trimmed. The low slung Heljan couplings can also get cought on these pins. In a noisy show, the loco might appear to stop with the lights on, the sound of the motor being drowned out by the noise in the show. The loco might then appear OK when taken off and tested.
  4. I have seen pictures of a class 20 on station pilot duties at Liverpool Street. D8060 springs to mind. I think this was one of the class 20's in green livery with a carriage roundel on the side of the bonnet where the usual British Railways totem symbol would have been.
  5. D8234 features in a few shots as station pilot at Liverpool Street. A variety of loco types were used as station pilots at Kings Cross. Class 15, 24 and 31 seem to have been the most common.
  6. I think only D6123 kept its disc headcodes and doors after conversion to a class 29 because it was the first one. D6123 was converted at Paxman's in Colchester, whereas the others were done at St Rollox IIRC. Another thing to watch out for if you are doing D6123 is that it had twin arm wipers in the usual position for a while, and I think I'm correct in saying it had no white stripe in its original two tone livery.
  7. It looks as if Heljan will be doing a unrefurbished version, but not for about 2 years.
  8. Pre-TOPS I think a lot more enthesis was put on 'image' by BR and the oil companies, and early block trains of TEA's seen on film and in photo's tend to have a uniform appearance where livery is concerned. I have seen a BR publicity clip with double headed class 47's on a block oil train, with all the TEA's in the same livery. 10 to 15 vehicles would probably be enough for a type 4 loco such as a peak or 47 to handle single handedly.
  9. I think it was probably just as much due to BR engineers getting to grips with the crank case problems on the Crossley engines. The class 28's certainly had the potential to become a half decent class of loco's with engine modifications, but as with the Baby Deltics, the National Traction Plan deemed them as non standard, and that was that.
  10. What fantastic news. Class 21's in all over green livery - superb!
  11. I don't think Heljan are sure at this stage, Paul. I think the question was asked some time ago and early indications were not at the moment.
  12. The release date has been given as Jan 2011.
  13. The piccies in Hornby Magazine look good. Roll on January 2011.
  14. Picked up a black one at Tollworth today. Cracking model.
  15. Its quite simple. The loco crew empty the fire at the end of the shift and shovel the hot ash over the loco to keep it warm.
  16. That is an appalling weathering job.
  17. Looking forward to getting a couple of black ones.
  18. I think the Jouef class 40 captures the character of the loco well. I know they are too wide, and a bit crude, but they just look like a 40.
  19. What a waste of Tenshodo 'Spud's. Mind you, someone will probably be prepared to part with a lot of dosh for it.
  20. There are a few pictures around of class 15's on the North London Line, working the six wheel milk tanks on from Kensington Olympia to Broad Street and other locations. I think a standard brakevan was used for onward movement from Kenny O.
  21. I can see a Stour Valley or Colne Valley project coming up with the W+M rail bus. Plus the class 15, Class 105, Derby Lightweight........ When are we going to see a J15 I wonder....
  22. I know that, I was just commenting that they are too short for the prototype Stanier bogie fitted to the 42' CCT.
  23. The bogies look too short.
