      Ozzyo, I am shocked to find that my suitcase has expanded by 4335% now comprising of 9 big plastic boxes and 97.4% of that is railway related! :D

    Unfortunately back too late and knackered to fit Decoder this evening but have picked up from Maplins the lead free fluxed solder and some spare tips for the iron.. maybe more luck tomorrow.

      It's the lead in solder that allows it to work properly... lead free is quite brittle and doesn't like temp cycles... that's why lead solder can be used in militay and transport applications, but it's becoming a problem as it creeps into COTS. It also9 has a higher melt temp... so either your iron wont melt it or the higher temp might damage components. Go lead... SnPb.
