  1. Whilst being in possession of a pair of B&W speakers, unfortunately, (B&W were the UK Nakamichi agents, IIRC) I have nothing of Nakamichi's manufacture in my setup. (For the uninitiated, the Dragon was an autoreverse cassette player / recorder but only had two pickups. To play the other side, it would open the cassette door, rotate the cassette then close for continued playing.)
  2. Good Afternoon, for it is again thus! Returned from the local metropolis to find it is cooler in the house than outside! When I was updating said house before moving in, I renewed all the double glazing, conservatory and porch (AKA utility room) (latter two stripped to foundation and rebuilt) and every glazing unit has Venetian blinds between the panes! It's almost like having Mediterranean style shutters! (I often wonder how effective those shields to go inside windscreens to keep the car cool; to my mind, they are on the wrong side of the glass!) Elsewhere: Talking with a friend the other day, I enquired as to whether the brake light on her car had been sorted. "can't afford a bulb" was the response, so, presumably, saving up for the fine! I will be most upset and extremely jealous if it be the Dragon model you have! An interesting paradox but advised to me by many an elder relative! Image Alert!!
  3. And on the subject of rubbish, locally: anything you like from bin liners to dedicated wheelie bins for general watse Green Wheelie bin with blue lid for anything that could be recycled Brown wheelie bins for garden compostables.
  4. Would that be a cantata?
  5. Good Afternoon, for it is after midday and bright and sunny outside, where I am not! Local supplier has been cleaned out of car screen wash; car has been washed whilst I shopped; meat products have been acquired from the butcher who was, sadly, lacking in any back bacon due to a failure of delivery! In other news WRT: Blackboards/Whiteboards etc. Remember this guy: (acted as an icon for Robinson's Jam for years!) In his various incarnations (IIRC, badges, ceramic figures, cuddly toys, et alia) he probably doubled the company's income in merchandising. Golly! Meanwhile: I tend to use a reputable local skip company or Hippobags depending on what is involved.
  6. Good Evening Awl, although I suspect it will not remain so given the flack that seems to be flying around! However, it seems even more controversy looms in the outer world: And I condole with her! A red car, like a black car, is still a car; regardless of colour, shade of colour (and many other parameters including, for example, ethnicity) there is NO difference to that fact that that the subject is a still mere Human Being ! Absolutely agree! (And totally non blasphemous!) When I was at University, this film was banned from local viewing by, IIRC, The Town's Womens Guild of Merrow. It attracted a huge audience when screened on campus! Allegedly, there is "Freedom of Speech" in the UK but some sought / seek to repress this (Mary Whitehouse, Lord Longford, et alia, spring to mind.) I often wonder, given the fascination for old film remakes (The Thomas Crown Affair, The Italian Job, Mary Poppins et alia), if there is an attempt in this direction? I would be seriously interested to see how the "Carry On" series of films would be made in current times! (I DO NOT include the so-called "Carry On" Columbus in this! [Carp of the worst kind])
  7. True! Look at the complex customs regulations which have come into force, uniquely, I believe, to against for Europe as opposed to the rest of the world!
  8. But for this simple layout, totally irrelevant! Feed at the toe of the right point will supply power to all the routed paths without need for isolated fishplates. Turning the point to the other direction will isolate the following tracks. Seemples!
  9. Good Evening Awl, for it is warm and dry. Unlike major parts of Europe which seem to have attempted various impersonations of Atlantis! Looking back: I suspect our French co-respondent, @jamie92208 may be able to throw some "light" on this as he seems to have a lot of relays in his house wiring. Use a safe low voltage circuit to operate the relay which can then switch the mains power. Earlier in the week, I presented for an Echocardiogram. I allowed more than an hour for the 7 mile drive as it was late afternoon, nearing rush hour and the hospital is in the nearest city. I arrived some 35 minutes early, allowing me time to calm down after the drive there through, what is best described locally as, heavy traffic. The Sonographer called me in some 20 minutes before appointment time, joking that this may be a new NHS record and that I should be done and discharged still before appointment time. He was not wrong. I now await the results of this and the 24hour ECG recording to learn my fate! However, by not so doing, one precludes oneself from quoting the posts to which one may refer and, thus, either forcing the "keen-to-understand-the-relevance-of-one's-comment" follower to back-track over many posts to establish its relevance or to just utter two words, one beginning with F, the other with O and ignoring your missive completely! The Swiss (or, for that matter, general two-pin European) plugs are not fused. The fuse, as I am sure you are well aware, is only there to protect the cable and not the appliance attached to it. From an unfortunate experience in a Swiss hotel, I had to call Reception because the hair dryer in my room had blown the circuit. The technician duly came and reset the circuit breaker for that particular socket. Cases seem to be on the increase again and, I understand, that New South Wales (Australia) has gone back into lockdown. After the fuss (as in much ado about nothing, rather than a mis-spelling of the Germanic foot) ball, if the UK and countries from which any other, so called, 'fans' were allowed in to view the sessions also feel the need for further lockdown, I will not be surprised! IIRC, Bull Bars were banned to reduce the demise of impacted humans. Can't wait for page 101010! Don't Panic! Not only for taste, although it does aid digestion, but the body does, ISTR, need both fat and salt to survive healthily. Agreed that excess can cause problems but a moderate balance seems to satisfy most of us omnivores. When I bought my current house, it soon became apparent that it needed rewiring and re-plumbing. To that extent, there are now some 40+ CAT6 outlets adjacent to most of the mains sockets. (Plumbing-wise, there are three feeds to each 'wet' room: cold hard, cold soft, hot soft) However, and on their own breakers, the study and hobby room are fitted with MK BusBar trunking. 6 CAT6 cables are provisioned for the hobby room with 44 for the study. The study may also gain two FreeSat and two FreeView outlets all fitted within the trunking.
  10. If this is you: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1998891853582248&set=gm.6629892843702918 Malcolm Sutton is on the button!
  11. Good Evening Awl, for it is just still thus. A quieter day in respect of incoming news but, nonetheless, an interesting one with thoughts still directed appropriately. Elsewhere: The Swiss have a three pin variant of the general european two pin plug which looks like a razor plug in the UK; the pin spacings are very slightly different. In Switzerland, what would occupy the space in the UK of a single mains outlet comprises three of their 3-pin sockets arranged as an equilateral triangle.
  12. May I add my condolences to Gordon's family; I met him at a few shows and he was a great contributor to both this forum and the hobby. RIP. Dom; words are trivial and this afternoon before catching up on this thread, I underwent an echocardiagram. It's a good thing the timing worked! If I'd undergone the procedure after reading this news, I would still be in hospital under investigation! Words fail me and my thoughts and deepest sympathies are with you and yours. As for punishment, I am minded of some medieval practices which, in this case, might be considered inadequate: being boiled live in oil before being hung, drawn and quartered seems too light / lenient a punishment.
  13. Good Morning Awl, for it has yet to prove otherwise. I fear one of my earlier (well, it couldn't be later, could it?!) posts has been misinterpretted: Tongue-in-cheek, this was intended to be taken as fuss, i.e. a lot of fuss about nothing! However, I am indebted to @Pacific231G for the following information: IIRC, HMS Daedelus was home to the Navy's hovercraft unit and I would often see them crossing the road from the base to the slipway; is it still home to the Hovercraft Museum?. It also housed the Coastguard Search and Rescue helicopters. Good to see that the site is still in use but hope the pipe bombs intended to blow up the runway if needed have been cleared!
  14. Evening awl, for to call it good is inappropriate! Thunderous noises off, but no sign of anything strikingly illuminating, cats and dogs seem to be raining; just hope it doesn't turn to calling (hailing) a cab! Managed to get home in the dry exhausted and ongoing health problems much evident. A visit is scheduled to my ""second home"" tomorrow afternoon for an ultrasound scan. Well, I managed until about 08:05 this morning to avoid the result of some contest that took place yesterday and, in catching up, for I did not check in this morning as usual, I note: We all have our priorities. You chose tennis, I would probably have gone for a cricket team; elsewhere, a Rugby team may have taken favour! Unfortunately, heads will roll as the 11 performance artistes on the pitch at any one time failed to deliver. I believe the German term for such a period of 'entertainment' is "fußball"; given a slight adaptation of this into English, (for those unaware, "ß" is equivalent to "ss"), might I suggest Fuss Ball? Out of pure curiosity, pray tell where said Solent Airport is located; having blood ancestry on both sides of the Solent, I can not envisage which this one is. A link to the webcam could also be useful, please! As Petula Clark said: "Don't Sleep in the Subway"; doesn't it make the bread soggy?
  15. True! This lunatic has recently updated his pages and things have gone astray! What I had hoped to portray was him up to his neck in a water hole cut from the ice! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCegf3KjxhVEYWmWsx48AY6w
  16. Good afternoon Awl, for it now seems to be thus. Currently dry outside so trimming of hedge may be achieved. Regarding something happening later, one colleague has already booked tomorrow off but there will be no surprise if he phones in on Tuesday! Wimps!
  17. With due respect, to heck with loco lifts and MPDs, I prefer https://shop.train-safe.de/en/HO/Gauge/H02L/Travel/ which takes the whole train.
  18. Good Evening as it seems currently. Only one observation: There are far too many with their own soapboxes! (From both factions!)
  19. Vandalisation, to me, means nothing any more! It can happen to anything, anywhere. Nobody will ever be happy with everything. What amazes me is how do they get there to do it? Locations are often so remote that Google Satellite view does not offer an insight!
  20. Good Evening awl, for it has the makings of becoming thus. Work worked; shopping shopped; what's for supper? Elsewhere, the Ever Given is now reported to be in the 'open' Mediterranean and heading towards the Atlantic. (move the map to find her from under where it says Draught 15.5m) Are they lions, per se, or heraldic griffins? I hope you clear them up afterwards if she does!
  21. Good Evening awl and given the nature of the day so far, for how long will it remain thus? The subject of sodium in softened water reared its ugly head, I note. I understand the amount depends on the softening process so may or may not affect blood pressure etc. (Aside: the body needs a certain amount of sodium and both a pharmacist and an A&E nurse have been heard to suggest that one of the better remedies for dehydration is a packet of ready salted crisps!) On plastics: I often wondered about the crew on the lower deck(s) (usually, as was the case for the Solent Sealink service, under a movable, laden upper deck) and what protection the hard hat would have afforded if the upper deck anchor bolts gave way!
