  1. Hi Phil, Nice job, I have some Lima PCAs to detail up at some point. Yes you're right about powders turning slightly darker after varnishing. I found this when I weathered my SSA scrap wagons, although as I was working from pictures anyway it worked in my favour to help get the desired effect. Look forward to seeing the others. Cheers
  2. Good afternoon, Despite being a little quiet on here, work has been going on behind the scenes on stock. Currently on the bench is a Hornby class 56 which will hopefully become 56073 Tremorfa Steelworks. The model was purchased second hand last year and was a quite heavily weathered coal sector loco. The weathering was a little too heavy for my liking and it hasn't been sealed with varnish so I should be able to clean it off along with the coal sectors. In my opinion Hornby did quite a good job with the triple grey paint scheme so hopefully it wont need a complete repaint. Further progress and pictures once I get them off the camera. Cheers,
  3. Hi Phil, Nice pic of the Allied Steel & Wire Yorkshire Engine co shunters being moved through Cardiff Central. Have you any further info on this move? I understand that Powell Duffryn had used the old loco shed at Radyr yard for servicing industrial locos, so maybe they were en route there? Cheers,
  4. Looking good there Phil, Are you aware of the different design codes with the PCAs? I did a fair bit of research on them when modelling some Albright and Wilson versions. Some interesting variations in the PCA fleets. Cheers
  5. Nice job on the 60 Lee, Do you have a pic/any info on your current set up for painting? I've recently invested in a portable spray booth from Expo to replace what I used to use but haven't had chance to use it yet. the first loco to go through will probably my next class 37. Cheers,
  6. Nice job on those. I snapped a few Coalfish last week on a local possession. amongst the rake were a couple of MFAs and even better a former MAA box still with a trainload coal logo. Cheers
  7. Nice job on 37904 Simon. I modelled this loco in the full metals livery and decided to scratchbuild the roof section as the Shawplan etch wasn't available at the time. Cheers
  8. As far as I was aware, the arrows on 37025 were hand painted and not altered class 47 ones. At least that what I read in a reliable source. Cheers,
  9. Hi Neil, Just a small local show in South Wales. A few other layouts on here will also be attending. Cheers,
  10. Good afternoon, With the layout now penciled in for it's first ever showing in public I've been making up a snagging list of things I need to do. Most of these are stock related, although the locos will need a good test as they've not run for some time. A couple of new items are being worked on as well and I'm hoping to have a couple of new locos ready in time. More soon.
  11. Been a bit quiet on this thread but it's been busy busy. Need to pull my finger out and finish some much needed stock for the steelworks plank, of which more anon. I've also recently upgraded my painting facilities with a new spray booth, so it won't be too long before the next loco is outshopped. Cheers for now,
  12. Just echoing others here Jim, Nice to hear about your various adventures. I managed to photo 37175 on driver training yesterday with the ex Motorail vans. Took me by complete surprise. Cheers
  13. Thanks Lee, Nice job in the 50. Interesting that you use Rail match varnish, have you ever had any problems with it yellowing on the locos over time? I used to find this even after making sure it was properly mixed. I now use Humbrol for varnish and haven't had any problems so far. I'm hoping to get back in to painting locos myself soon, I'm currently upgrading the paint facilities. Cheers
  14. Indeed, nice to see Wells Green again. Does anyone know happened to Dyserth Road? Cheers,
  15. Nice work there Lee, nothing like some proper liveries. What paint are you using? Particularly liking 37519 as I'm in the process of doing one of Thonaby's finest. Regards,
  16. In terms of looking for candidates for repainting/numbering, many will of course require headboard clips above the markers. These are quite easy to make from some plasticard filed to shape and some brass wire. I had to make some up for my model of 37904, which in itself was simple compared with scratch building the roof section. Cheers
  17. 37057 is looking good. I would have preferred it in large logo but it's nice to see an older livery for a change. Is it known when it will be out and about training? Nothing spotted on RTT as of yet. Nice thread Jim, always interesting to read about your antics. Cheers
  18. Not sure about 31184 but those on 37298 were for when it worked 'the gwent growler' railtour with 37142 in 1990. HTH
  19. Good evening, Not much to report as I've mainly been doing the cosmetic side of the layout and making it look presentable and testing some newly built stock. Whilst shopping earlier I picked this 'Bookazine' up. I have the one on Power Station coal traffic already, but as I've always had an interest in the steel industry it seemed fitting to add this one to the collection. Not had chance for a proper read yet but I'll settle down with a cuppa later and make a start.
  20. It's been a while since I've posted anything in here, so to solve that I've recently dug this Sulphuric Acid TTA out from the depths with a view to finishing it. I actually started this around six years ago. Next job is to make a start on the walkway.
  21. Hi Rob, Out of interest how heavy is your loco box? All my locos are in original boxes but I'd like to have dedicated storage for them. Cheers
  22. Nice photos Phil Mac, Out of interest where was the one of 293 taken with the gantry crane in the background?
