  1. These were used in Acrylonitrile traffic and would work to South Wales on the rear of the 6V14 Saltend-Baglan Bay Acetic Acid tanks. The bogie tank would be detached in Britton Ferry yard and tripped to the dock. Before these were built (around 1989 IIRC) a small pool of BP class A two axle TTAs were used. One of these can be seen in Private Owner Wagons In Colour by David Ratcliffe p65.
  2. Mark, The bodies should be quite simple to build, I'll be doing one or two at some point. Even if you want a rake you could do them in batches. I really need some Black Adders, another thing on the list. Although I've seen a picture of a small layout friendly scrap train so I'll probably start that soon, which will be my first scratch build project for a long time. Cheers
  3. Thanks for the kind words everyone. It does motivate me to keep on with things as it's certainly been a learning curve. Cheers
  4. Good evening, I've had a request for a couple of pictures so I've taken a few in natural light this time, it does make a difference. A few jobs still to be done but those can wait till the other half is working evenings. The first shot shows the pilot bringing a couple of empty SSAs from the scrap bay after unloading. They will return to Tees Yard on a service later in the day. The second shows 08664 stabled between duties as 37904 arrives to run round it's coil train. Finally a view of how the scenic section is viewed. This is awaiting boxing in and final tidying up to look more presentable. Cheers
  5. Well it's been a while since any postings on this, but I have been doing some modelling. Finally out of the works are the SSA scrap wagons. They are seen here after arrival on a metals working from Tees Yard.
  6. Looking good Paul. I like the idea of idea for the barriers, I need some of these for Dragon Steels so that's another I might steal from you. :-) Dragon Steels is now operational, I've been testing the fiddle yard today. Cheers
  7. Further progress made earlier this evening. The basic fiddle yard has been completed and tested with a prototype cassette and I'm happy to say it worked first time. Regular pilot 08664 being given the honour for the test runs, although it found a couple of tweaks needed I'm happy with the outcome. On the stock front, the SSAs have now been tested, lettered up and given a good dose of weathering. Next on the stock list is to make a start on some slab carrying wagons. The kits are ready and standing by! I can now finally see the home stretch in sight and it won't be long before Dragon Steels sees it's first inaugural workings. More soon
  8. Hi rs4, Thanks for that. Pretty much along similar lines to what I was thinking, although I quite like the idea of rubbing down the insides a little to get some texture. I've not tried that before but I'll give a go for the insides of my SSAs. KFA log conversions looking good. Cheers
  9. Nothing to report as of yet, I'm currently refurbishing some stock and building a fiddle yard at the moment. I'll report back soon. Cheers
  10. Hi rs4, Just came across this thread while looking something else, there is some nice work here. Quite a while back you showed some pictures of your MBA 'Megabox' wagons filled with scrap. Can you remember how you weathered the insides? Cheers
  11. Looking good Paul, nice to see the areas of bare board you talked me through coming together. I think it looks good with the surroundings being modelled rather than more track. Any joy with those stock box dims? Cheers
  12. Well, after visiting the Cheltenham show yesterday I felt inspired to have a productive day. I've been busy most of the day working on stock and making a start on the fiddle yard and have finished the frame, it just needs the deck adding then I can make the cassettes. I've also finished painting the SSA scrap wagons that can be seen earlier in the thread. These will be used to represent a service from Tees Yard, these need lettering next. Cheers
  13. Hello all, Meant to post something sooner but I've had lots on. I've been doing quite a few scenic experiments lately but I wasn't happy with how things looked, so I went through the scenic box and went back to some turf and lichen. Although lichen seems to have gone out of style these days I think it's quite good for adding heavy undergrowth. Paul - thanks again for the invite, we had a good time. I will post up some pics soon, but I need to find a way to upload them at the library. Cheers,
  14. Nice picture 96701, I copped this one myself last Sunday having seen it the day before. I was surprised to see it still wearing the remains of Fertis livery as repaints happen quite quickly these days. Cheers
  15. Looking good. That's some scratch building job there.
  16. Good evening, I've been a little quiet on here but I've still been beavering away, mostly on stock so that I actually have something to run. Should have an update soon, but in the meantime I'd like to thank all the followers for staying tuned in and bearing with me and also those that have offered tips, advice etc. In particular I must thank Mark Smith and Brian/Paul Rolley because without there help and encouragement I probably would have given up long ago. Happy New Year to everyone and happy modelling for 2015. All the best.
  17. Thanks chaps, Paul Yes it's possible but I have most of what I need I think, will just have to buy some timber to build a fiddle yard. Thanks again for the trestle, I finally managed to pick up another yesterday so can now see how it will look set up. Brian Thanks very much, although there was a bit of a cake disaster so no no birthday cake for me. I'd be interested in how you do your stock boxes as I'm looking for something to store the kit built steel stock in. Cheers
  18. Good afternoon, It's been quite some since I've posted in here, mainly because I've been busy building stock. A very kind donation from a fellow member on here means I can now set the layout up by itself rather than using the workmate as before. This also means I can now get the fiddle sorted properly. Pictures when I've got time to upload them. Cheers
  19. Excellent stuff. Any chance of an explanation of the weathering on the BAA/BBA decks? The heat crazed area where the hot coils have been loaded looks just the right of colour looking at photos. I tried to replicate the effect on my rake but I wasn't please d with the outcome and decided to run the train loaded. Kind regards
  20. Hi Rob, Peafore Yard seems to be coming along nicely. I'm planning a project myself based around the Bristol area and moving back in time away from my usual sectorisation era modelling to good old Rail Blue, I've already acquired a few items of stock for it. Sorry if I've missed it but what is the size of Peafore Yard? Cheers
  21. Nice work James. I remember 712 well back in Waterman Railways days when it was working commuter trains in South Wales. I could guess what the other duff could be but I won't on here. Look forward to more.
  22. Hello, Been a bit quiet on this one but modelling has been going on and the wagons are not far off being finished. Time is being taken adding some simple brake gear to the underframe as the is a lot of empty space in this area and whilst looking through pictures of Grampus it was clear that some of the brake components can be seen. More soon Cheers
  23. Hi Grimley, After reading through you recent postings I was quite interested in your Mainline Grids. I have a couple of these as half finished projects and seriously thinking of finishing them off. I know the new Hornby model is up to date but in my opinion it still needs a bit of work. Have you re powered yours? This is something I'm thinking with mine once I find something suitable. Cheers
  24. According to the current issue of Rail Express, 56006 is there for repairs to it's wiring following cable theft. Hope that helps.
  25. Morning mudmagnet, I've just come across this. You have a really good looking layout there, very atmospheric. Reading through this and browsing some prototype pics is really wanting me to build something mid 80's based with plenty of banger blue stock. Sorry if I've missed this reading through but how have you done your general yard ground cover and puddles? All the best.
