  1. Ahh, the 6B14 Hull-Baglan Bay Vinegar tanks. Nice shots there David. To answer your question richard37670 the lower bodyside colour is Executive Light Grey. Hope that helps.
  2. Hiya Rob, Was great to see you at the show sir. Always nice to catch up with everyone and glad to hear things with you are good. All the best,
  3. Hi Marc, Was really impressed with Poynton Sneer over the weekend. It really shows that you done need a big layout to model in 7mm scale. The last O gauge layout I saw was at DEMU's Showcase and it must have been pushing over 20' in length. Was good to have a nice chat (thanks for the reply on my thread too), in particular to do with sloping embankments/scenery at the front of a layout. It's funny how you might not do anything to a layout for a while then you go to a show and come back all inspired, and it acutually made me go up into the attic and drag dragon steels out. I really feel like I'm making progress now that almost all of my bare board has gone. All the best
  4. Hi Marc, Ah yes, I did take that suggestion into account for that reason but at the time I had already installed the current track layout and I felt adding anymore lines would look a little cluttered. But indeed you dont see many disused lines modelled, one for the next layout perhaps. Thanks marc. Now that I've got a fair bit of ground cover down, it's starting look a little how I imagined it. Haha! At my rate of progress you must be joking. but seriously, I would like to get it finished. It's been waaaay too long! over the weekend I did get a fair bit done and i think I've got an idea of how I want the front to look now. Cheers
  5. Thanks Peter and Class 66, I'm hoping to make some more progress during this week. So I should be able to put up some pictures soon, It's nice to hear that people are still interested though because it helps to keep things going. Cheers,
  6. Evening everyone, Just a quick update to bump this one up. Progress is cracking on, although I always find it difficult to photograph and doccument the stages. The buildings are nearing completion and will soon be ready for priming and painting. What I'm looking at now is som scenic work, I'm just waiting to pick up some hanging basket liner for my overgrown bank surrounding the bridge, this also bringing me to the look at options for hiding the road as it goes into the backscene. I'm also looking at how to do the front on the layout as I was going to have a sloping overgrown bank with some kind of outlet culvert possibly for waste water from the works, but I'm wondering how feasable it is. I know it's probably not in keeping with the area but I do like to see some scenery at the front of a layout. Anyway, I'll be back with a proper update soon. Cheers,
  7. Ah, a nice pic of 37102 there. IIRC this became the beast that is/was 37712 being a former local engine for me a model of this is required as it will come in handy for working steel services into my works. On another note I'm finding this thread very interesting with lots of nice pics of locos. Not sure if it has been mentioned before (haven't been through all of the thread) but like other things class 37 nose ends are a minefield of differences. For example the prototype of my 37/9 has two different types and as such I have replicated this on the model. Look forward to following this one. Cheers
  8. Hi Tim, Thats true. It's also the reason why I decided against it, also having close to half a dozen 37s (not all in traffic) to fit it would indeed be quite an expense. Looking forward to seeing this one progress. Cheers
  9. Nice job Tim, are you going to do anything with the windscreens on this one? Was going to do my Dutch splitter but not sure how much it will show through the black paint. Cheers
  10. Afternoon, Just a quick bump to say where I'm at. The basic layout of the buildings has now been decided and cladding of the bare shells is continuing at a steady pace. More corrugated steel was bought today so I can now crack on with this side of things, I've even started looking at suitable sizes of tube for pipework. Things are starting to look how I imagined them now. Was also nice to see Brian R and Marc Smith at the Cardiff show over the weekend, sorry i couldn't talk for longer Brian - I was a bit pressed for time. It's always nice to chat to fellow modellers at a show, I do enjoy the social side of our hobby. Marc your layout has once again given me another boost of inspiration, you've really done a good job with Wales, Rails, Rain and Steel. I just hope mine will turn out at least half as good. Should be back with a more detailed update with some pics around the end of the week. Cheers,
  11. Thanks for the reply Brian, Yes I see what you mean by big whilst looking at your pics, it's nice to see Cardiff Bar & Section Mills again, you've done a great job there. With regard to my buildings, I'm somewhat limited by the height of my backscene because the layout has to fit in/out of the loft hatch. But looking at the space I have I could certainly go for something bigger, it would make an interesting build. I think I'll knock up a cardboard mock up and see how it looks. I also need to try and get hold of a Peco engine shed kit, partly so I can use the wall panels and partly so I can get all the doors/vents etc. Cheers
  12. Good afternoon, Thanks for the kind words Lukasz. I've been making more progress on the buildings recently and I thought I'd take a quick snap to show where I'm at so far. The following pic shows what will be the main building in place and cladding is now in the process of being added. The cardboard tube is representing a chimney I may install and the grey steel cladding is merely standing to see how it might look. Beyond that I'm a bit undecided about what to do with the end building, I dont want it to be another big jobbie as the original idea was to have a medium sized building here and continue the back wall up to backscene height to represent a much larger structure, but at the moment I'm unsure. Does anyone have any comments or thoughts on where I might go at this end? Meanwhile here is the pic Cheers,
  13. Hi Rodger, Neptune Road is looking good. I'm pleased to say I've really got my butt into gear over the last few weeks and have made some excellent progress. All track is now permanetly laid and wired up, some groundwork has appeared and now I'm back to working on my buildings. Can it really take this long to build a micro layout!?... If you fancy a look, the link is in my sig. Hopefully I'll see you at the next meeting. Cheers
  14. Seems to look at home on a South Wales based layout Leon, all it needs is a rate of JTA/JUA iron ore tipplers. Cheers
  15. Afternoon, As work continues on the buildings I couldn't resist having some stock out on the layout to see how it was looking, as a result I decided to take a few snaps of a shunting move. First of all here's 08664 preparing to marshall a train which has recently arrived. Next it removes the VAA van and moves into the next road for collection later. It's next task is couple up to the BAAs and reverse them into the yard. It then returns with a single loaded BAA for the coil warehouse. After finishing it's moves 08664 is seen resting on the short headshunt. That's all for now, in the next update I hope to finally show some buildings. Cheers
  16. Well it seems the dilema has been overcome following some thinking and tinkering. Now I can move onto other things, here's the result of this evenings work.
  17. No that's ok Brian, it's always good to hear what everyone else is up to. Glad spain was good, I'm really pleased we've been having some decent weather. Although working out in it can be tough at times. Ah nice to hear you new layout is taking shape, please post up the link when you start a thread so I can check it out. As regards my above post. Now that I have got the embankment and the retaining walls up I'll turn my attention back to buildings in the coming weeks. I started these quite some ago so need to dig them out again, some are just mere shells awaiting cladding. I'll then weather the track before I ballast it, looking through the pics on the CD I think my fine/medium mix light grey ballast will do and I'll weather further over the top of that. Any thoughts? Cheers
  18. Just a quick update on progress. As of this evening the retaining walls have built at the along the embankment. There is still some minor work to be done but it's more or less there. Here is a general overall view.
  19. Hi Chris, Well I was planning on just painting the backboard a plain colour like white or something. I've never really been a big fan of paper backscenes, but of course I would welcome any ideas/suggestions from people before I decide on anything permanent. Cheers
  20. Hi Grimley, Thanks for the kind words.Yes steel traffic is one of my favourite subjects too, along with civil engineers traffic. Well yes definitely metals class 37s will make appearances along with occasional 56. I even want to include the RFD 47 (export/import steel workings?). To be honest I'll probably only have the odd appearance of a 60 as I can only run short trains, having said that it wasn't unusual for doughnuts to haul short workings having seen reference on both videos and photos so we'll see. Regarding BAAs, well to be honest I have a rake of these already (along with BBAs) built from Camrian kits so I will probably just get one or two Bachmann ones to model some variations. I'll be putting my Camby built ones into works for refurbishment at some point. Hi Peter, thanks. Yes having thought more about it I'm also inclined to stick with my plan of having the retaining wall and the sloping bank. Yes I think you are right about the area looking too 'busy' if I added another bridge span and used it for road access with a crossing. It would also mean that the central support would off centre compared to the span already in place. The effect of a slighty run down/grimy appearance is what I'm going for so I think I'll stick with that. Cheers Ahh, hello Mr Rolley sir, How are things with you and how was spain? Nice to hear you will be following this one. I cant believe it's taking me so long, it is a micro layout after all. Oh well. Thanks for letting me post the pic up by the way, much appreciated. Come on now, get Cardiff Bar and Section Mill back out... You know it makes sence. Hehe. Yes I'm quite interested by Coldblow Lane, have you put up anything on here yet? Thanks for your information regarding wire in tube points by the way, I really appreciated the help. I've got mine wired up to switches for the polarity now, I just need to install the mechanical linkages at some point. Right, time to get the foam board and the Wills brick back out Cheers,
  21. Hi Paul, Thats certainly an option. I wonder if it would also allow lorries to access the works, I could also model a simple crossing and place stop boards so that locos have to obtain instructions before crossing. Hmm, I'll have a think and a play with the board and see how it looks. Cheers
  22. Good evening, Wow, it's been a long time since I updated this. Where does the time go? Anyway... This is the roadbridge at the end of the layout and the area I'm currently working on. The more I look at it the more I wonder what I can do. Do I just have the bank sloping down or could I build a shallow retaining wall around the headshunt stop block?... Here's the area in question. A little ponder is needed over this I think.
  23. Good afternoon, Just got home and have decided to do some more work at the bridge end of the layout. I keep looking at the foreground wondering how I can work it. Do I just follow my original plan and have the bank sloping down to the headshunt, or could I continue the retaining wall (although shallower at this point) around the stop block? Hmmmn... Here's a pic to show the area as it stands, you can see where I have marked out the possible shallow retaining wall behind the headshunt. I'd appreciate some comments or suggestions on my options before I comit to anything. Cheers
  24. Well after finally having sorted out my camera and it's new charger, I can now bring a much needed update to this thread. First of all a picture showing the exit from the fiddle yard (I have a plan to hide this). Okay I know it's not a steel train but 37012 is standing on the central running line waiting to run round it's train of Rudds. The Railfreight VAA is standing inside what will be the rail served coil unloading area. Another view, this time looking at the end of the layout at the road bridge. As can be seen I have started to add some landform to this end of the board and outlines of a couple of buildings have been marked out. Still plenty of other jobs to do. I still need to fit the other three kadee magnets when my local stocks up again. Comments and questions welcome as always. Cheers
  25. Hi Marc, Haven't seen you on here for a while, but I do know that you've been busy with the gigs. I think I'm all sorted for the scenic break where my rail served loading/unloading point will be now. Over the last couple of weeks I've been fitting in a good few hours here and there in between other stuff. The track is now permanently down and wired, some buildings have been marked out and some groundwork has appeared at the right hand end. As soon as my camera is sorted I'll get some pics taken. Talking of groundwork, how did you go about creating your basic ground cover? I'm aiming for grimy steelworks conditions like you have done. I realise you have set your layout on a gloomy wet South Wales night but any pointers on this would be very much appreciated. I'm afraid I'm not much of a whizz when it comes to scenery. Hope the gigs are going well by the way? Cheers
