  1. Thanks neil, Ah ha, so it seems I did miss something. I wasn't aware aunti Vi did 37800. That clears things up. Thanks very much, and once again please forgive my ignorance.
  2. Afternoon, Forgive my ignorance but have I missed something? I see 37800 has been mentioned, which loco are you using as a base model Neil? The locos I've seen so far look good indeed. I really need to get my new charger so I can get some of mine up. Cheers
  3. Hi Kevin, Thanks for the extra info and pics of the Sturgeon. I knew I shudn't have got rid of all my old Hornby flats! It's a very interesting project and it seems to look the part. Cheers
  4. Hi Kevin, Very nice work on the layout. I enjoyed reading about it Model Rail. Your Sturgeon looks very nice, based on an old Hornby Freightliner flat you say? Could you provide further details of how you carried out this build? One would say it could have a thread of it's own!? Look forward to seeing more. Cheers
  5. Hi Neil, Nice looking layout. Cav has done a lovely job on some of your stock. I've been looking at some nice layout pics lately and they have inspired me to get up into the attic and crack on with mine. I left it at the adding the buildings stage. It's only a small steelworks based layout and yet it's been ongoing for nearly three years! Looking forward to seeing more. Cheers
  6. Hi Marc, Its was good to see you once again at the L&B show last weekend. I was well impressed with the layout and it has indeed been an inspiration (and a kick up the backside) to get up into the attic and get to work on my buildings. The atmosphere you have created on your's is very nicely done, I'm liking the setting of a dark, wet night. You have done a brilliant job on it. I'll look forward to seeing it again some time. Cheers, PS: Did you get the reply I sent to an inbox message I missed?
  7. Nice progress on these Martin! I'm looking at a batch of BP tanks which AFAIK were also built in two (?) batches. Looking forward to some variation. Will be following this with much interest! Cheers
  8. ... No she's pretty good really!... As far as modelling goes I've been a bit lazy of late but seeing yours progress has prompted me to get on with it. Seeing pauls layout at the Cardiff show was a real kick into gear as he's completed this since first discussing it a few meetings ago!
  9. Hi Marc, Thanks for the speedy reply and info on your buildings! Yeah, I missed the last meet because I got back late with the other half! I spoke to Brian ® and it seemed to have been a good one?!... As for buildings, at the moment I have wills corrugated steel and asbestos sheeting for mine, I haven't seen the slaters stuff so I'll have a look around. I did have an old peco engine shed in the attic somewhere, but when I found it - it was damaged so I threw it away (stupid boy!!) One more question on the buildings if I may... Have you built them as shells and cladded over the top? If so, what have you used. I'm looking for ideas to save on weight here. As for finishing mine before yours we'll have to see! It's nice to see you've made some good progress though. What I need is a nice deadline to give me a kick up the backside!! Following with much interest! Cheers Marc,
  10. Hi Marc, Those buildings are coming along nicely! You're making some good progress with this one, I really have to get a shift on with mine. I'm still playing with cardboard mock ups!!... What have you used for those, some look like to be bits of peco engine shed? The grey one at the bottom for sure... Will look forward to seeing those in place! Following this with much interest! Cheers,
  11. Hiya Martin, I'm just catching up with things on here. Did you get this one finished? Keep up the good work! Cheers,
  12. Hi Marc, The layout is coming on a treat! I'm following it with interest. I have a qusetion regarding your SPAs... I'm tinkering with several of these at the moment as I need some SHAs (a variation) for my layout and am wondering about the articulation provided on these wagons. I've been told that some people have just fixed them to the wagon floor with no swiveling action. What did you go for, and have they been built straight from the pack or have you added any other bits to them? Cheers, hope to see you at the pub on Thursday!
  13. Hi Marc, Really liking the look of this one! It's looking good so far... I've started digging mine back out again, although I'm thinking of reducing the size of the board now. At the moment it is 4' x 18'' but it's a bit of a lump to carry round myself and there's not even any buildings on it yet!! Plus it would make transport to any shows easier! I'm also a little confused (forgive my stupidity!), you say you ar going to add a sector plate at the right hand end to enable running round of trains. Does this mean that the final layout will be longer than 6 feet? 6 feet is around the length I was looking at because of my available space, but at the moment my running round forms part of the main board (albeit not laid permanent yet)! I'd be interested in your thoughts around this as like yourself I would like the odd mainline loco to appear in addition to gronks! Keep up the good work, oh and thanks for the mention in the article! Cheers
  14. Max Stafford, got mine today also. Will be having a propper read later, it's time to do some modelling first!

  15. Will be interesting to see this one emerge Martin, I do like a bit of Tractor action. I have a couple of T's going through the paintshop at the moment so i'm looking forward to getting those finished.... Did you ever get 37098 finished? Cheers
  16. Looking good, Good to see another South Wales based layout... Yes you deffo need a at least one 37/9 on the layout for working steel traffic. I'm currently building one using the Bachmann model with scratchbuilt roof... See my workbench thread, just follow the link in my sig. Cheers.
  17. EWS one?... If you mean the base model of 37411 which is becoming sister 412 then yes progress has been made on this one. It is now ready to enter the paint shop and will be painted alongside 37904... They are in the same base livery after all, albeit 37412 which requires Transrail logos. Not sure if that one is justified a thread of it's own as it was more of a detail and repainting project rather than a heavy conversion as with the Slug. Glad I could help. Cheers.
  18. Hi Lukasz, Thanks the kind comment The donor model was 37672 in Transrail livery, unless you change the bonnet side grilles it is only suitable for doing 37904. This model doesn't require cast bogies so I won't be going down the same route as per my dutch model of 37012. Hope this helps. Cheers.
  19. It's been a while since I've posted anything in here, just been busy with so many things. I've documented the full story of this project on the DEMU forum, however following a recent WAG meeting there seemed to be some interest in it so I thought I'd share it over here as well... I've wanted to do a new Slug for some time (I did one on the old Lima model a few years ago) the old model was not up to my current standard for use on my layout so I set about building a new one, now whilst you can get conversion kits for these loco's they are designed for the Lima model and are thus not to scale for the Bachmann 37... The etched kit is a scale foot to narrow on the width IIRC. Following a bit of a mad suggestion by a DEMU member I then set about seeing if it would be possible to scratchbuild one from plasticard. The loco being modelled here is 37904 Here is a brief story of the project in picture form, starting with the model as it was not long after fitting the new roof... Next we see a shot of the new roof in place before final detailing was started Here's a photo showing the finished roof panel in place prior to final tidying up and primer being applied And finally a shot showing some of the front end work required for this loco... 37904 had differeing headcode styles at each end. That's it for now as the loco is now ready to enter the paint shop, I'll of course post up some photo's of the finished article. Comments and questions are of course welcome. Cheers.
  20. Nice work on those James, I too like the Bachmann model and like you I only own three at the moment... 08664, 09017 and 09105... I'm really tempted to give these a slight reworking having seen this now. Have any details on the revised under cab pipework you mentioned? I think there was also an article in RM about doing this mod but I'm not sure I have it. The bachy model is good, but I think my next gronk project will be a Hornby model though... Cheers
  21. Alex, Those are in fact steel Blooms as opposed to slabs, if you examine the second prototype pic carefully you can see they are a square'ish section and are roughly half the length of a slab loaded in two halves, looks like three across. Thus giving you twelve Blooms per wagon.... You should be able to get plastic section in a similar size to model them for your train. HTH
  22. Hiya Marc, Yes I've made some progress but I want to make some more before it goes in front of the camera, what I do need to do is go to maplins and get some DPDT sliding swithes so I can get some wire in tube points fitted. Once Ive done this and I can finish the track laying (not much left to do) and then I'll get the camera out. What this space
  23. Hello, Nearly there with this one now, It'll soon need a trip to the paintshop... I'll post an update when it is finished. Cheers
  24. Looking good as usual Martin I look forward to seeing what you follow this one up with.
  25. Thanks Marc, Glad you found it ok, I'm trying as best I can to keep this one going, to be honest I'm still 100% convinced of the new blog style but hey it'll grow on me I guess. Thanks for the kind words on the weathering The plan now is to make some good progress on the layout, I'll be doing this in the evenings over the coming week. I even have a gantry crane kit to modify now, so stand by for a bumper update on progress towards the middle of the week Regarding the next Cardiff show - that's some way off yet, not even sure the layout will be good enough to exhibit, time will tell as I make progress I guess PS: I'll see if I can pop over for a propper look at Brachty Bridge tomorrow. Cheers
