  1. Nice work. If you are interested in brutalist architecture, you might like this (you prob know already) https://www.behance.net/gallery/22044971/BRUTAL-LONDON Andrew
  2. Here he goes again, next up a typical warehouse factory from the Liverpool Street/Farringdon area in London. I pass it every week walking from Liverpool Street to Old Street. I should have more time soon to dedicate to modelling. Work is definitely ......"the curse of the drinking classes." (Wilde) From the website: http://zetlandhouse.com "Zealand House, 5-25 Scruton St London EC2A 4HJ Zetland House is a unique and striking property, situated in the heart of Shoreditch. The building was originally a Print Works for The Bank of England. Today, it has been refurbished with modern businesses in mind, whilst maintaining its existing structure and original period features." It's a home to start ups and creative types so no one minds you walking about and taking shots and measurements. I'll probably do a potted version because it's actually huge! Watch this space..
  3. This is a joy, thanks for sharing. Really well executed. Andrew
  4. Great layout, wonderfully grimy! Very glad I discovered this today. Andrew
  5. Wonderfully atmospheric. Turning into a thing of dark beauty. Andrew
  6. Short diversion: my birthday present today from Mrs GH. A GER ticket punch from ebay! How good is that?
  7. Here's some minimalism from me, a bit "hairy" but not without charm I hope.
  8. Whilst you have made some good points there and it's an informed view, I would respectfully suggest two flaws even if you could get it out of the turnaround phase. The first is that it has neither market dominance nor a protected niche which would give some predictability to cash flows. Secondly, as an circa £30m asset It's unlikely to be on the radar screen of those type of institutions for a direct investment. Andrew PS I would love to think otherwise and I would seriously consider a rescue!
  9. It's so hard for we RMWebbers to look at this dispassionately because many of us were brought up on Hornby and have a soft spot for the company. I still have a storage box of 70s items which I couldn't throw away. The problem is with my head rather than heart it's hard to see a significant market opportunity but rather see a niche market where demographics are eroding rather than growing the whole. There where there many stronger competitors than 30 years ago with smart technology and low cost manufacturing bases able to access UK and global demand both physically and digitally. Having a strong traditional brand is not good enough if you have failed to capitalise on it for the last few decades. Sorry but it's better for us hobbyists if the railway part is spun out into a successful group.
  10. I've always followed the Downes principle but might turn over a new leaf looking at some of those shops. Here's some minimalism from me.
  11. Yes, quite agree it's probably optimistic. I've not done any analysis on the company and don't pretend to have any special insight into its problems but experience tells me that it's usually worse than you think when you go into these situations. Mature companies with market caps of sub £250mil shouldn't be listed in my view, lot's of regulation and short term scrutiny without decent liquidity or the prospect of access to capital. The sooner it's taken private by a strategic investor the sooner (new) management can start to address operating and strategic issues. Andrew
  12. But add in another £10m to fund the turnaround…
  13. Only building various stuff which I have on a series of topics in the card model forum. Otherwise wandering around the East End of London and Clerkenwell confusing people by measuring up buildings with a tape measure during the day!
  14. Still a long way from resurrection of Aldersgate. In the meantime I have been building structures for the future (see building threads) and scouting about for scenes. Whilst looking for new offices (er, I thought I had retired??) I got the opportunity to take some arial shots of the approach to Liverpool Street. These are not great photography and are modern views but helpful for perspectives, "site assembly" and details such as wall widths etc. Who knows, could inspire some new urban layouts! Andrew
  15. Hi I am also a keen follower. Where can I find out when you are exhibiting? Andrew
  16. Oh dear, here we go again. I think Aldersgate has spent more time in boxes than running! Hopefully, when I build a garden room it can be unpacked again. I the meantime those interested should watch our for more buildings on the card structures forum. Thanks to all those who have followed in the past. Andrew
  17. 10:10 another classic layout on RMweb!
  18. Marvellous and so original. Andrew
  19. I love this, it's original, authentic and quirky. Look forward to further progress. Andrew
  20. Is that the English Heritage Lost London Panoramas or something similar? Huge thing and fascinating. Actually English heritage have lots of good stuff but hugely expensive so prob best to order at library. A
  21. Excellent layout. I can't believe that I had missed it until now. Looks like what I have been trying to achieve for years! (only better). Andrew
  22. Found a fantastic source for architectural drawings and references. This will provide the plans for at least the next ten buildings for Aldersgate! http://www.british-history.ac.uk/search/series/survey-london Enjoy, building lovers!
  23. Welcome also. I was there last year and it's a charming station. You seem to be doing it justice. Keen to see more photos! Andrew
