  1. Hi Mophead, Here are a few links to youtube from around 1989-1990. I could be very easily tempted to model this era but going to resist and stick to 2001. Cheers Simon
  2. Thanks, I have always liked AC electrics aswell, I am tempted to model an 86/4 and 87 together on a steel coil working from the late 80's as a one off! Cheers Simon
  3. Hi, Thanks for the comments. Although I managed to complete the front ends, I think I am going to invest in some form of magnifier as I was struggling at times. With regards the wheelbase, I will be picking up a second 87 soon from Hattons so will post a comparison shot. The couplings will certainly need something doing, I want to get rid of the Rapidos, may look at the Dapol version. Cav's (Millers Dale) idea with the 3D printed replacement looks a good idea. Cheers Simon
  4. Evening, Well a few days later than planned, managed to get the warning panel yellow sprayed on tonight. A coat of Halfords white primer had been applied prior to this. Some of the detail has been picked out also. A coat of Klear will be applied ready for the replacement warning flashes. Final details to add are TDM jumpers, ETS jumper, etched plates and a screw coupling followed by some weathering. Cheers Simon
  5. Thanks, just thought, need to order some ohle warning flashes aswell for the cab front and etched nameplates. Cheers Simon
  6. Hi, Well basically completed the detailing of the cab ends, just need a dummy screw coupling. Hopefully over the weekend I may get chance to spray the fronts with white primer than the yellow. Also managed to fit the Dapol high speed pantograph which helps withe apperance. Cheers Simon
  7. Evening, Progressed the 87 a little bit more tonight. All the mw fittings have ben removed aswell as the headlight. The coupling, pantograph have been removed and the gap in the buffer beam built up with plastic. The handrails have now been fitted at this end. Still quite a bit to do. Fortunately I will only need to respray the cab fronts. Cheers Simon
  8. Cav, that bridge is a work of art and its not finished yet! Looking forward to seeing it finished along with the whole layout of course. Cheers Simon
  9. Evening, Thanks again for the comments. I have made a start tonight on the Farish 87 to try and correct the bogie centres. This has been achieved by rotating the bogie pivot pin through 180° and also shortening the carden shafts. I managed to splice the shafts using some evergreen tube. The modified shaft is on the right in the below picture. The completed loco. I have test run it on a piece of track and all appears to be ok. The real test will be with 9mk3's and DVT at speed. Cheers Simon
  10. Hi, Managed to do a bit more to 86425 on the detailed end. I have added the bracket for the vac pipe and also fitted some plastic strip to represent the bogie frame now the coupling has been removed, you can just make it out in the picture. I am planning on fitting the lifeguards to this aswell. Also the replacement pantograph is now fitted. Managed to look at the Farish class 87 last night and it appears the bogies could be moved back to the correct position but I will need to make some replacement drive shafts from brass rod/tube. Cheers Simon
  11. Hi, Thanks for the comments and likes. I have also got a Farish Class 87 in Virgin livery to start aswell. Unfortunately, it looks like this may need quite a bit of work to try and bring it up to scratch. I notice the bogie centres are out, not sure how to tackle that yet. Things to do so far will include, remove MW jumpers, fit new tdm fittings, new headlight, wire handrails, foot steps above buffers, replacement pantograph, buffer beam detail at one end, driver in cab, fire bottles on roof (just noticed not fitted in 2001), etched nameplates and also try to adjust the bogie centres as mentioned above..... (and anything else I can think of/ missed!) Not fitting working lights. Cheers Simon
  12. Hi, Progressed the class 86 a little more tonight, fitted the detailing kit to one end. The footsteps over the buffers are made from 10thou strip and the MW blanking plates are from 5 thou strip. Hopefully going to pick up a replacement high speed pantograph over the next few days. At the opposite end just going to fit the steps and MW blanking plates. Cheers Simon
  13. Whilst looking through Youtube, came across these clips of a 59 on a loaded train rescuing a hst. Don't think this is a regular occurance. 59103 is the loco involved and hst power cars 43160 & 43188. Cheers Simon
  14. Hi, Thought I should make a start on some stock for Dallam. First project for this is Dapol's 86425 in RES livery. I am modelling 2001 and here on Flickr is a picture of it in action http://www.flickr.com/photos/52781536@N05/5353414934/in/photolist-9a4DKu-axtNaU-aECzK7-9a1tbc-93kc9R-jov5LK-iX6cgp-apJTNc-9sUHWY-9oYpVy-aPQnw6-aa59yA-aWfaAD-bgoZMM-c9fXK1-frP2oE-jjaE3h-aUYQTP-eaRMNb-bnBVSp-faTANi-d9XFYZ-g7G2ct-biaqNk-byfcwR-bkkhZW-cGwCYE-bkki63-bkki3G-dWBWva-dWC3XX-e5pWfe-dobMWB-bkkU6f-dLdV9Q-9BfF7U-gT9tj3-dQuV1d-bdQ7EP-9RuKCz-cpe7kh-fzDs1Q-8nvPYu-8nvPVU-8nvPWs-8nvPZ1-8nsGd4-8nsGfF-8nvPUN-8nsG9t-8nvPVq Starting with the model, the coupling has been removed completely from one end ready for the detailing to be added. Plan is to fit new high speed pantograph, footsteps above buffers, blank covers where the old MW jumper cables had been fitted,Saint Mungo nameplates, driver in cab etc. Cheers Simon
  15. Hi, After a busy 8 weeks, finally managed to continue with the warehouse. There is still plenty to do such as fitting guttering and drain pipes, security lights and also the skylights. Cheers Simon
  16. Hi Brian, Nice job on the 66. I take it that kit is now under the PRMRP label? Cheers Simon
  17. Hi Alex, Thanks, regards the crane, its awaiting a coat of white primer and then its first coat of yellow! Dallam and the 7mm Grid have delayed work on the crane at the minute. Thinking about it, I will need to build a 2mm scale crane for Dallam! Cheers Simon
  18. Hi Ben, Thats a cracking photograph of your steel terminal building. Regards the building being removable, I think thats the way I will be going now. I am going to make a working door for the warehouse, I have got a few old Fulgrex slow action point motors lying around which could be suitable. Thanks Simon
  19. Hi, Thanks for all the comments regards the advice for the track, the trackwork will probably be started in the new year. My plan is to finish the final bits on the bridges and also complete the warehouse over the next few weeks along with completing the final baseboard. With regards the code 40 track, is it robust enough for baseboard joins as I will have 4 board joins on the layout? Cheers Simon
  20. Hi, I have used a craft knife with fresh blade against a steel ruler. For doing cuts this long I used 40 inch steel rule. Also got a 24 inch steel ruler aswell. I also do a number of light passes with the knife rather than 1 full cut. Sam, may look at doing that. Cheers Simon
  21. Hi, The warehouse is progressing well however I have run out of plastic cladding for the walls and roof, hopefully pick some up later. With the shed being 4ft in length and each board is 3ft, my plan is to build as a whole, then once complete carefully cut were the board split should be, hopefully that will work! Cheers Simon
  22. Working on an 0 gauge class 56, may finish it eventually!

  23. Hi, Decided to make a start on the rail served warehouse. As with the bridges I have made the basic structure out of 5mm foamboard. I have made it 4ft in length, it should be 6ft ish if done to scale. To allow the complete layout to fit in the garage I had to loose a couple of ft and this is the area I reduced it. Whilst looking on Google Earth I noticed the shed has been built with rails feeding the south end of the warehouse aswell though the rails terminate at the boundry fence. Here is a picture of progress so far. Its being built in low relief. The mk3 is standing in for a vga! Cheers Simon
  24. Hi Cav, Thanks regards Dallam. Just another question regards your point build, is that code 40 rail you have used? Cheers Simon
