  1. Hi Cav, Sounds interesting. May look into doing something similar as I am planning on using peco code 55 for Dallam but not decided what to do regards pointwork. Cheers Simon
  2. Hi Cav, Nice work with the point. Is it 2mm finescale? Cheers Simon
  3. Thats what I liked about Dallam, quite a simple layout but plenty of shunting possible. Been reading your thoughts on DG couplings, think this is the type I will use but only for the stock which will be shunted in the sidings (approx 12 vehicles), everything else passing on the mainline will stay in formation. Cheers Simon
  4. Hi Robert, good blog. I think Dallam lends itself quite well as location for a small shunting layout. I have had thoughts of doing something similar to yourself but in 4mm. Cheers Simon
  5. Hi Dave, More great pictures, from seeing all your pictures I may need a bigger fiddle yard for Dallam! I like the picture of 87034 with 016 DIT, although in this case it maybe loco failure, I do remember push pull sets going off Longsight in the morning with an extra loco tucked inside for positioning move purposes, so think I may need to have a dummy 87 or 90 to be added into a set for added interest. Cheers Simon
  6. Hi, Thanks for the comments guys. Been thinking of making a small test plank as a few others on here have done for ballasting purposes, try to get ballast shoulder right also for painting the rails and weathering the track. Once happy use the same technique on the layout itself. Cheers Simon
  7. Hi, Positioned Folly Lane bridge on the baseboard to get an idea how it will look. The 3 tracks at the back are Dallam sidings. The 4 track mainline will be concrete not wooden sleepers (need to order that). This part of the track formation should have a degree of super elevation (not sure if to model it or not). 86425 is on the Up slow I think and the Fliner 86 on the down fast. Cheers Simon
  8. Hi Cav, Nice work on the loco's, they look excellent. Cheers Simon
  9. Hi Dave, More great pictures, that OCA would be ideal in Dallam sidings. Cheers Simon
  10. Evening all, Work on Folly Lane bridge continues, still quite a bit to do. Once this is at a similar stage as Bewsey Road bridge,l will probably start on the warehouse structure. Cheers Simon
  11. Hi Dave, Great pictures again, plenty of inspiration. The paint job on 37038 looks quite interesting and 56134 plus the Trainload class 60's. Cheers Simon
  12. Hi, Yes hairspray will work, from previous experience the cheaper brands work best. Cheers Simon
  13. Hi Brian, the main inner structure is made from 5mm foamboard. 1mm thick card has then been used to form the outer walls. I have used plasticard for the plate/girder sections. Cheers Simon
  14. Hi Dave, It can be arranged if can find a suitable vehicle. Also need a silver Peugeot 306 DTurbo (mine) and a silver Landrover Discovery (Chris). Along with some Warrington buses. Could not resist adding the spider last night being Halloween. Cheers Simon
  15. Hi all, Bit more progress on Dallam over the past week. So far managed to fit the pattern makers dowels and case clips. Also sanded the baseboard tops at the joins to make sure they are flat for the track joins. Also been working on Folly Lane bridge. As part of this, I have included the start of Dallam Lane with its junction with Folly Lane. Still quite a bit to do on this yet. Cheers Simon
  16. Hi Dave, Thanks for posting those pictures. I had forgot about the Virgin ex RES 47/7's! Hmm will really need a class 175 or two. Quite alot of ideas stock wise. Thanks again. Simon
  17. Hi everyone, Thanks for the comments, going to start on Folly Lane bridge hopefully tomorrow. I think time spent on bridge may be between 15-20 hours I think. Regards the backscene, I need to look into how to undertake it and the various options. Cheers Simon
  18. Hi all, Got somemore work done tonight on the bridge. The road and pavement have not been glued down yet. I am thinking of weathering this away from the bridge before fixing down. I am thinking of moving onto Folly Lane bridge now and then weather both structures together. Cheers Simon
  19. Is painting double yellow lines in 2mm.

Sounds painful just thinking about it!!

  20. Hi Ian, Just to say Banbury looks fantastic, I have just recently started in n gauge after years of 4mm and bit of 7mm modelling so will be looking at this layout along with a few others for hints and tips. I will have to keep a look out if you are heading up North with Banbury. Cheers Simon
  21. Evening all, I looked at the bridge again and agreed with Paul, the colour would not be right even with weathering. The daft thing is I have driven over that bridge quite a few times. So I took a look at the Scalescenes website as Ben suggested and downloaded a couple of sheets of dark blue brick, TX27. I feel happier now with the brick colour and hopefully some careful weathering should have it looking suitable. Picture below with the new brick. The class 86 I ordered from Kernow arrived today. Cheers Simon
  22. Hi Dave, Thanks, will contact "Mikey" - good idea btw, and see if he can assist. Cheers Simon
  23. Aswell as the freight to the sidings, there will be the usual for 2001 MK2/3 Pushpull sets, Mk2 Cross Country, HST, parcels traffic to and from the nearby Parcels depot(off scene), freightliners etc passing on the mainline. Not looked at the OHLE yet, but suspect I will scratchbuild the structures that will be required. Cheers Simon
  24. Thanks for comments and tips guys. Ben, think I will look at the Scalescenes sheets for future work and possibly overlaying this bridge see below. Paul, thanks for the offer, I live in Northwich so not too far away for a field trip!Your right regards the brick type, I started with one in the photo as I had it to hand, my thinking was to weather it with a mix of powders but it may be easier to print off some sheets as Ben suggested and simply overlay the existing brickwork. Cheers Simon
  25. Hi, Over the past few days I have been working on Bewsey Road overbridge. This has been constructed using a mixture of foamboard and card for the main structure. Plasticard has been used for the plate girder sections and also some of the caping stones. Metcalfe brick sheet has been used for the brickwork. Picture of progress so far, Still quite a bit to do, the brickwork needs toning down and weathering. The road and pavements also need adding. ThaneofFife, layout plan sounds good, thanks for heads up on 87 but managed to sort it not long after post. Cheers Simon
