Is this a proper overhaul or a sticky plaster ?
Bluebird.
This one's just a repaint from what I gather. 60007 was earmarked to be the first in red, which is currently undergoing a pretty major overhaul. I understand 054 and 091 are the next to be put through overhaul at Toton
It'd look nice with the red Murco tanks, wouldn't it

Pleasure - it ran to time too - the light was just on the cusp of being too dark. A pleasant if EXTREMELY cold afternoon at Shrivenham - yielded 6 freights in 4 hours - the 3 most interesting below - 59002 being unexpected - suddenly appearing on TOPS as leaving Didcot not Banbury which is where it actually came from (even having access to the system on site via a laptop is not always a guarantee of knowing what's where and when).
Here's 071 later the same day, passing Rodbourne in the very end of the day's light on 6B33 - some serious RAW file editing happened here, as to get a sharp shot, even at ISO1600, made the piccy rather dark. Damn I miss the summer...
Got the bins too, as well as the wineliner in the morning, in here http://joalder.fotop...t/c1921168.html
Went over to a slightly familiar location today (though from a different angle) for a second stab at it - though the snow that was looking good around home thinned out just a little the other side of Swindon
Two EWS liveried tugs today, one at Westerleigh and the other heading east out of Wales just by the toll booths on the M4, unfortunately I couldn't see the number.
PS do they stable 2 or 3 track machines at Westerleigh? I could see some yellow painted vehicles at the far end of the terminal.
If my memory serves me correctly it would have been 60010 sat in Westerleigh waiting to take 6E41 to Lindsey, and 60096 working 6B13 from Robeston to Westerleigh.
There is a Network Rail training centre at Westerleigh, and I believe OTP is used in relation with this, also Colas tend to stable stuff there from time to time too

Talking of which a FGW power car and MK3 coach will debut this weekend on the Dapol stand at Darlingotn (weather permitting).
cheers
Dave
Dapol Ltd
Dave,
Thanks for the update, all useful info and good to know the buffet and TGS are still on the cards.
Am I right to assume the FGW livery is the current blue with pink doors?

Thanks for that - tug 71 is my target too for the day, along with the Bristol bins and whatever else is about. Still, at least there is some snow on the ground today unlike Saturday's will it - won't it moments

I went to South Wales on Friday, and was rather lucky, especially given the weather forecast. Despite the fact that 60013 on the Dee Marsh - Margam was running late, and wouldn't make it to us in daylight, not long after we heard that 60074 was working the engineers trip from Westbury, which made a change from its recent stone workings
60063 crosses the Bishton flyover with 6B13 Robeston - Westerleigh 19/11/10
60074, running about an hour late, passes Undy with 6B65 Westbury - Newport ADJ 19/11/10
More from the day can be seen here http://joalder.fotopic.net/c1917786.html

Cracking shots Brian, I love seeing trains at the start or end of their journey, it adds a bit more meaning to their workings. Photogenic locations too
et voila !
Et voila nombre deux!
60013 seen passing Crofton with the diverted 6B33 due to Didcot - Swindon being shut. Same again for the next 4 weeks IIRC assuming 6B33 isn't caped.
Got a wider shot, amongst others, at http://joalder.fotopic.net/c1916115.html

Here we are again. Same loco, same strectch of line, just a mile or so further north
60074 is seen at Thingley Junction with 7C54 Oxford Banbury Road - Whatley quarry empty stone 9/11/10. It was cold and dull, but the loco sounded ace and was powering well. For the wagon fans, this is the same set 60010 used last Friday on the Appleford stone, formed of VTG green ex Railtrack JNA boxes (34xx), Mendip Rail JNAs (39xx) and Yeoman O&K JYAs (32xx/33xx)
I've noticed 60074 has lost Shaun from the front handrail since my photo of it at the end of September - he hung on for a few weeks though!

60019 and 60059 at Arpley this morning. 60013 passes by with 6F74 Liverpool Bulk Terminal - Fidlers Ferry.
Nice one! Three tugs in one shot - and it's not at Toton All different liveries too. Here's hoping the 60 becomes mundane again - in a good way.
Today 60074 worked a local engineers train, from Westbury to the worksite on the single line to Thingley, then to Swindon for a run round and then back to Westbury. Due to early running I missed the outward shot by seconds, but here it is returning near Lacock, a couple of hundred metres north of the worksite. The portable floodlights parked against the lineside fence are from this work, and a pair of road rail excavators were parked up out of shot too. It'd be an interesting scene to model, along with the discarded food and wrappers present.

How about DBS red?
Cheers,
Mick
Sounds nice Mick, and here's hoping it's more than just the one that ends up getting done. Nothing in this game is certain until it's happened
Here's tug 10 in the rain today on 6C48 Appleford - Whatley, passing Langley Burrell near Chippenham. Whilst the 59s are nice (a real local landmark) a tug is top in my book!
cheers
jo
-
Heads up for those in this neck of the woods - 60010 is currently at Appleford. It should work back to Whatley this afternoon via Swindon, Chippenham and Westbury. Normally 15.00 - 15.30 at Chippenham
cheers

60096 failed on Tuesday morning on 6A11 Robeston - Theale. It was dragged most of the way by a 66, and returned today (6B33) nearly a day late. Not sure what the state of the tug is, or what will be happening with 6B33 tomorrow, well today now.
A happier tug moment on Tuesday (2nd Nov) saw 60063 with 6B13 Robeston - Westerleigh, rolling along the single line leading to the terminal
An alternative angle, with the train coming over the foot crossing is here http://joalder.fotopic.net/p67964008.html
The developments with 60007 sound very interesting, here's hoping it's a success and leads to a squadron overhaul (albeit only part of the fleet) as planned
cheers

The paint seems to be doing it's job well on what's a 21 year old shell, unlike many other items produced in Britain around that time! Very little, if any, rust on most of the 60s I believe. 60091 looks a little tatty (= modellable ) with some big marks in the paint
Always thought 60s looked best in ex works Mainline blue with silver embellishments.
Mmmmm B)

What they all said!
Fully recommend 7dayshop.com, both me and dad use them regularly for electronics and computer bits.
As well as eBay, give Amazon a quick once over too. Canon will ching you £70 for a replacement battery at RRP for my camera. I haven't paid more than a tenner for a non OEM compatible, and although they tend not to be as long lasting like Dave said, 2 of my collection actually do better than the Canon one!

Yeah, paper mache on both sides sorted the main surface out near enough, shrinking both sides together I guess.
A replacement piece will be cut from the sheet, and paper mache'd on both sides before mounting on the main board, hopefully preventing the warping this time! If that fails, I don't know what's next...
cheers
jo
-
Indeed there really is only one way to find out...that foamboard and paper mache can warp horribly
I've ripped off the recessed part that was to facilitate the pits, currently thinking of a way around the problem.
Nay worry though, progress is still occurring with the rolling stock, with a mk3 in pieces and additional holes made in it, and a nice bag of Microtrains couplers awaiting fitting. More on that soon
cheers

My picture of the year nomination - sheer quality
Very kind of you! It was some lucky timing how everything came together
Here's one from last Thursday (14/10/10) with the 6th Tug of the year to work 6B33 Theale - Robeston. 2010 has seen 60074, 60013, 60049, 60010, 60084 and now 60096 work this train.
What chance 60099 eventually making it down to south Wales?
cheers

Another tug to work off Westbury today - 60048.
Making a welcome sight in place of the more usual 66, 60048 passes Claverton with 6C41 Newport ADJ to Westbury engineers working. The ballast boxes behind the tug were a bit more varied that the often seen set of yellow 'Falcons', today formed of a pair JNAs, a large set of MCA/MDAs and a trio of MOAs on the rear
Weather wasn't great today, but the sound of the 60 certainly went well on the way of compensating! There are some alternative views here too: http://joalder.fotop...t/c1906340.html
cheers

Small world eh Dan?
Seems like 074 was your pet for a couple of days. It was good to hear the 60 thunder past, here's hoping to it perhaps happening a little more often...yeah right!
I don't suppose you can shed any light on Shaun the Sheep hitching a lift on the front? 60074 wasn't missing Margam that much was it?
cheers

I believe it was on the Acton - Theale sand circuit today Phil, with the VTG MRL sand hoppers
Cracking photo - sunny too - fortunate considering the Wiltshire weather down 'ere over the last few days
As I type this we've had a day of torrential rain, virtually horizontal at times. Definitely the best weather of the week was yesterday! Still, it's given the car a wash

Another batch allox load bank testing today B)
Very interesting - thanks for sharing that Dave!
I'm sorry to do it again to you all guys, here's another tug on the Mendip stone, captured earlier today
Making it a pair of 60s to work a Mendip stone in the last fortnight, 60074 'Teenage Spirit' powers past Great Cheverell sounding excellent hauling 6M20 from Whatley to St Pancras. The orange RMC hoppers do go well with the blue loco.

Some interesting work there. I'm not at all keen on liveries without yellow ends, foreign stuff looks strange enough to me, let alone seeing British stuff without it! I do like the CN inspired 66 though!
Here's a few I've done lately
Yet another on the theme of the US freight companies, what if CSX had bought the ex BR freight sectors? I'm still not sure whether this works well or not at all!
Here's the vision that was going through my mind when it first came out that a silver 60 was being done for Tata, yep, it's just the Corus livery with Tata logos:P
60015 is rumoured to soon be appearing in red, with more to follow if the whispers are to be believed. A preview?
What with Corus/Tata/BSC, Stobart, Bardon and several others getting customer liveried locos, what if EWS did one for long term customer Murco?
cheers

The Fall & Rise of the 60's ( was The End of the Tugs?)
in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
Posted
So, I managed to catch the red 60 today - it's a very nice paintjob, very neat. Looks good nice and clean, too, won't last long though I like how it looks with the red tanks too. Bring on some more red 60s!
60011 glows in the gloom as it passes Hall End, near Wickwar, with 6B13 Robeston - Westerleigh
60011 in DB red stabled at Westerleigh after working 6B13 from Robeston
Looking rather grubbier than Tug 11, Army livery 60040 passes Hall End with 6E41 from Westerleigh to Lindsey, apparing seconds after 6B13
There are a load more from Westerleigh here http://joalder.fotopic.net/c1932474.html and the rest of today's snaps including a Colas 66 and DRS 57s
cheers
