      Hope you're now mended.

  2. I'm just about resisting the temptation of one of these, thanks to my GW/WR bias! Also having photographed a couple of WR ones, more appropriate to my looation, I bought a 247 developments etch for the Hawksworth. So that's in the to do pile helping me resist... Sorry for the OT Dave
  3. I made a quick visit to Aristotle Lane last weekend, and it looks as if the new track alighnment isn't going to be the same as the old. While the access roadway is on the old alignment, what appears to be the trackbed beyond seems to join the existing lines before the kink at the crossing. I guess that the ditch is being relocated, with new culverts a bit further North of the crossing. http://Aristotle lane by unravelled, on Flickr http://Aristotle lane by unravelled, on Flickr Dave
  4. I jumped the queue by buying one, (maroon), over the counter! The disadvantage of doing this was the temptation of other stock on the shelves, meaning I also bought something I didn't know I wanted. A lovely model to add to my parcels stock. It has a slight blemish on one side, (possibly a paint drip cleaned off), but it's only visible with close inspection. Dave
  5. What, no strategic reserve of creosote to give the shed that authentic smell... Dave
  6. If anyone in South London is still looking for a Castle, there were at least 3 at Greenwich W H Smith. Unit 8 Bugsby's Way Greenwich London SE7 7SR Telephone: 020 82692264 Also at least one compound. I was told that unsold Castles go back at the end of the week. One of the interesting things I've noticed in a couple of WHS is that the current models are not with the rest of the partworks, but in the impulse buy displays at the checkout queue. Dave
  7. Thanks, that's what happens when I refer to books from my childhood! (JNM's "A further selection of locomotives I have known") Dave
  8. Wasn't that a special repaint, for the film "The Chiltern Hundreds"? So it may not have been standard? Dave
  9. I'm not using the "Follow" option, as I'm a committed lurker, but looking forward to progress. Have you thought of an external loop at the door end to increase available length? It could fold up against the end not in use. Cheers Dave
  10. Hi, I’ve been catching up with the thread recently, and glad to see the progress you’ve made. As usual I’ve a couple of ideas which might worth considering. Not having read absolutely everything, sorry if the’ve been discussed before. First, are you going to build a porch on the garage? I’m thinking of something enclosed where outdoor gear could be left in bad weather, to help keep the humidity stable. Also helpful for keeping heat in/out, if the place is well insuated. Second is flooring. I remember this was discussed before, but were those 600mm(ish) interlocking soft rubber tiles considered? I’m using them successfully in my cellar which has a new concrete floor. They are comfortable to walk on and easy to reposition. I’ve left under bench areas uncovered, rather than cutting round legs. Also things are easier to drag around on concrete, just lift tiles if you want to move things across the room. Hth, keep up the good work, but careful with the back... Dave
  11. I've been playing about with some 12v 10w led modules (5 for just over £10), and looking at ways of powering them. A number of the suppliers state that using anything other than a proper led driver/transformer can reduce the life of the leds. Of course this might just be a sales ploy, but I would have thought that a well regulated supply would be a good idea. I've bought some of the proper devices, but will be using spare power supplies too, for comparison. From what I've so far tried, running one off an H and M safety minor gave a certain amount of flicker. On an earlier dip into leds, I replaced a string of halogen spotlights with led "equivalents" (much dimmer), and managed to blow the psu, as the load was too low for it! Dave
  12. I'm Dave, and I'm retired and living on the top fringes of the area in Brockley, South London.I'm particularly interested in the work going on to improve the railways, and am photographing various schemes as they progress, (Reading, Crossrail, Croxley, London Bridge at the moment).I'm trying to focus my OO modelling around the last decade of Western region steam, having grown up in Oxford. I also have some Gauge 1 tinplate, which I've been meaning to run round the garden for 30 years or so...I have far too many unfinished projects on hold, and that's not just model railways! Thanks Dave

  15. Thanks for the comments. I'm glad these are getting a wider audience. I had only seen some of these as negatives until scanning them a couple of years ago. 20. 48444 was certainly around that date, so that could well have been the same train. Apart from the first round trip, all the others were by car from Oxford. Because there were few services and short connections, we didn't travel much on the trains while we were there, I'm afraid. I've gone back over some of the earlier sets and added location and locos, where known, thanks to the extra information given. I'll add to the rest later. Thanks Dave
  21. If it's any interest, a picture of 120 in 1964. I think the location is Fratton. Thanks Dave
  22. Another set. Shepton Mallet, ??, Highbridge and Evercreech Junction. End of July 1965 Still some more to come... Thanks Dave
  23. That location info is very useful. I'll tag the originals appropriately, and that will help when I get round to putting them on flickr. It's nice to be able to post a sequence rather than have to pick out a representative image. Even so I have left out a few shots from the set to avoid too much repetition. Watch this space thanks Dave
  24. I don't think we ventured any further south than Stalbridge, I'm afraid. Thanks Dave
