  1. Well, you're getting an extra. The offcut of copper clad I picked up to do this is big enough for two boards, so if the etching goes to plan you'll have a spare! If I could post pics here I'd show it before it gets dunked...
  2. Ah, so that's what it looks like! I'm just off down Maplins to get some more etchant...
  3. Nice! Pillars in the six foot?
  4. That looks very even for a wiped on finish, did you dunk it?
  5. Nice flowing trackwork Gordon, should look really good. You do realise, however, that you'll have to build an ash plant to match the quality of the coal stage?
  6. Yup, I'm afraid I agree with Martin, the stone plinth just looks wrong. Save that lovely box for somewhere else, and build a custom brick structure to fit, that is if your railway really needs one there.
  7. Very clean job. What did you use to glue the foamboard? I have the same issues as you with cutting at 90 degrees, but rather than keep on practising, I think I might well knock up another jig/tool for the job.
  8. Is that rail groaning with metal or wooden keys? I'm assuming, god forbid, that it's not flat bottom rail...
  9. I don't think they're unloved. I would much prefer one to any diesel. I'll get me coat...
  10. As I think I mentioned on the old forum, I have a fully computerised speaker measurement package that I use for my other main hobby, building my own hi-fi equipment. If any member wants to send me a driver then I'm quite happy to measure it, suggest a suitable enclosure design, and post the results here for all to use.
  11. Looks a bit more like a heavy frost than snow, but it's probably worth persevering with.
  12. Interesting plan. Can't wait for construction to get underway!
  13. Sorry folks, I rather forgot about this blog! I'm not sure who's kit the J is, I'll ask Mike next week for more details, but I remember he was very complimentary about the way it went together. The TTU is now new and improved, the body is back on and it has a tiny two pin connector unobtrusively mounted, so it can be used as normal as well. al
  14. What did I tell you about lintels?
  15. Well, another new item of stock appeared last week, a very nice J Class tank. I suspect Mike was very disappointed it was withdrawn before MT black livery was introduced though... Track laying is also preceding apace, the second board is mostly finished, and the third board well underway. Here, you can see Richard, (the new boy), Mike, Simon, and Mark hard at work. In the foreground you can see the TTU, (Tethered Testing Unit), Mike's re-wheeled Jinty chassis hard wired to a controller that allows for testing the running qualities of new pointwork without all that fiddly wiring nonsense. Hopefully, on the next update, you will be able to see the beginnings of the scenic boards.
  16. Can't wait to see how the ghost comes out!
  17. Well last Thursday we had a few guest appearances. Richard, a new member brought along some of his stock, a DJH C2X, (which I absent-mindedly forgot to take a pic of), and a rather nice push-pull, (or as the Southern would have had it; pull-push, ) set built from the Roxey kits: Mike also brought along one of his many projects in progress, but this one a little more unusual - a D&S model of a Cowans Sheldon 15ton steam crane. Quite a neat model, but reportedly let down by rather vague instructions: Rumour has it that various KAG members own the strategic reserve of these kits, so we should be okay for the obligatory breakdown train or two, (or three, or four...).
  18. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's peering at the iTunes window in pic#6 to see what's playing?
  19. Hmm, but when I buy a loco kit, I want entertainment value from it. A mere two hours to build a chassis, that's barely worth an abasis
  20. I look forward to seeing more of this build Darren, I bought a Falcon/Jidenco Ivatt 4MT from the bring and buy stand at Scaleforum, and with their reputation I was curious as to how one of their kits would go together in actuality. The instructions in mine are a little basic, and I think this may be the cause of most of the reported issues, but we'll soon see. Good luck. Oh, and regarding builders, stock up on chocolate Hobnobs, and you'll soon have them on your side!
  21. Neat little project Rob, well done. I don't know the prototype, but it certainly looks like it should be black, rusty and shunted at the back of a yard somewhere. Who makes those nice little screw couplers you used?
  22. Oh DJH your frames of brass crude and ugly end in the trash. Oh DJH When will you learn to nickel silver you must now turn. Sorry!
