  1. Well, it's certainly better than blue with yellow ends! This is my current favourite though.
  2. Indeed, a fine kit. The Brassmasters one looks even better, though it's probably not quite beginner level.
  3. Hmm, you've got me thinking. This might be the next project after the SR BG.
  4. Playing Sgt. Pepper's far too loudly, but loving every minute!

  5. Indeed. The bigger the ducting the better, in theory, though I use the transparent stuff I linked to and that is fine once all the joints have been wrapped in tape to stop leakage. It certainly is strangely satisfying watching all the chippings shooting up the tubes! Just been out Perseid spotting. Saw three in about fifteen minutes, but it's clouding over now, so came back into the warm.
  6. Nice. Your extractor certainly has the capacity to run a ducted system, mine, which is only 800l/min works well for my bench saw, mitre saw, and thicknesser, though it does struggle a bit when I use all the reducers on it to fit my handheld router for deep cuts. BTW, lovely sunny day here in the south east, just put the first lot of washing out on the line. Must get on with the 4F...
  7. Gordon, get one of these and one, or more, of these. For about the price of a loco or two they really do make a difference in keeping the workshop neat and tidy, and so much more inviting just to pop in and do a quick job.
  8. I'd just bite the bullet and buy the Comet etched tender kit. It really does go together very well, and as the sides are pre-rolled, is an ideal starter for a beginner. Have a look here for a couple of pics.
  9. How come I keep missing all these wonderful blogs? That is really looking rather special. Can't make the AGM this year, but I hope I'll see it soon. You never know, I might build Holbeck yet!
  10. At first glance, that all looks a bit basic, but then there isn't really much to a 4F so I suspect it will look quite nice when finished. What do the castings look like?
  11. Hi Brian, all I have is the brief description and basic drawing in the RCTS Locomotives of the Southern Railway Vol 1. When I'm in a situation to take it further, I intend to appeal on the SEMG forum to see if anyone has further details. I'll also post the CAD I'm working up, as and when I finish it off.
  12. Indeed, the Southern Beyer Garrett is on my list.
  13. She Moves Through the Fair: (Trad. Arranged by) All About Eve
  14. No idea Mikkel! One of the local model shops had it in, it comes in white, unbranded plastic buckets holding about 2kg, and has "Fine Ballast" written on the side in permanent marker. Does that help?
  15. They're not even the real platforms yet, just templates for making the real thing.

    Dry Run

I suspect that's purely an artifact from seeing the edge of the balsa sitting on the foamboard. Because we see the materials as separate, we naturally assume that's a platform edge too. Dress the front so you don't see the transition and I suspect all will be well.

I like it! When you build the mezzanine, don't forget to add offices for the foreman and clerical staff, with nice big windows so they can keep an eye on those good for nothing work-shy types downstairs.
  18. Epic! I wish you luck with the detailing though, I'm having enough trouble with my single road shed. How are you planning to get rid of the wood grain on all that plywood so's it looks like concrete?
  19. You didn't use the one with the dodgy tracks did you?
  20. M7 at Jerusalem Works. A little Photoshop manipulation to get a 50's emulsion effect.
  21. It's certainly a possibility, there is very little detail on the layout that will pin it down to any time period, (deliberately, as the original concept was just as a decorated display case), so going prewar might be quite fun, (as and when funds permit of course). I really must post some progress pics...
  22. Now that's the proper colour for a loco!
