  7. i'll have to remember some of those tips, love to try o gauge sometime but like you this only way i would be able to afford it at present. There was a model program on a good few years back, cant remember what it was called but their was a chap on making gauge 1 and bigger traction engines and think tender engines nearly completely out of card even the traction engine wheels. What he did was laminate the card to get the thickness's he wanted and used shellac to harden it. You couldnt tell the difference between them and ones built and engineered out of metal. Think he said people used to stand open mouthed when he picked them up and put them under his arm, usually it takes a couple of guys and a transit van / trailer. He could carry three or four just in his car.Just limited by their size. His also said couldnt see point building something if only for show out of metal, ,he had done metal previously but could produce a lot more for the time they would require building and for a lot less money. Wish could remember what program or chap was called. Tel

  11. Hi Frank Thank you for your nice comments, here's a little bit more info about it as requested. The tunnel is 2mm card base, i used a old plastic tunnel mouth for template of the opening. i cut two of these, one for back.It was covered in scalescene's random ashlar paper. The wings are from the bridge abutment kit form same company, slightly shortened.I already had these from previous project.i did add supports behind from card scrap laying at 10 degree angle since wont be attached to back. The pillars are from balsa wood. the raise stone above opening and capping stones from lolly pop sticks and wood coffee stirrers from a certain Mr Mcdonold. the cap stone papers are off the abutment kit. The quoin stones from tunnel mouth are from windows and arches kit in stone, though had to fiddle about bit and half cut both sides,so could fold around arch. The tunnel wall is just cereal box cut bent in to arch and marked off for length. I used a combination of glue stick and pva glues to put it all together. I print out on matt photo paper. All i need to do now is use some artist's chalk to tone it down and lightly weather it,then give it a coat of matt varnish or fixative. Scalescene's do do a tunnel portal but since only usde bridge abutment kit once before, and had other papers, seemed a waist not to utilise them again. The beauty of these kits is you can print off as many as you like. Hope this gives you a better idea how it was done, feel free to ask again about anything not sure about. If you look at the card modeling section you will see some of the outstanding models others have built with scalescene kits and papers http://www.rmweb.co....odelling-forum/ Once i get it planted will post some more photos. 13. For the last couple of weeks ive been getting on with finishing the doors to hide layout when in stored position. Im quite pleased with way they have turned out and that the idea works. They differnt to the usual door in that ive made them with shelfs on the front, sort of inside out doors lol. I did them this way to not waste space and as a compromise with my better half to give her bit more room for some of her bits and bobs. Ive just managed to get the backboard sorted out right along the layout and pasted some skypaper on it. The two on first two boards are permanently fitted and split when board folds up. The third boards back scene is removable and folds flat on same board for storage . Its held in place by a couple of turning buttons, not got a picture of it yet but here is the back scene as it stands. Once building etc added may add a bit of extra back scene like hills with some pictures printed off pc. They will just be stuck to skypaper. I need a tunnel on the left hand board to run through the backscene, so in between doing the other jobs ive bashed a scalescene bridge abutments kits and building papers to knock up a tunnel mouth. It will also lift off to enable board to fold. What im going to do is place it in position, but only glue the retaining walls to board, the tunnel its self will lift off. Yes looks bit wonky but is actualy cut so will sit at a angle Happy Modeling Tel
  14. had a enjoyable day at Hull model railway show, some very nice layouts :)

  15. Its been quite awhile since writing a blog, so thought about time to start doing one on my current project , Castle Bolton. I chose the name simply because i had a very nice day out recently with my wife at Bolton castle, was stuck for a name my layout , so why not. i can toughly recommend a visit,if you like castles and you are up in North Yorkshire near Leyburn. When i did my boxfile layout Stooperdale Engineering i mentioned i had quite a bit of model railway stuff left by my late father and wanted somewhere to run it. Since its a mixed bag i have decided to make a preserved line so i can run what i like. It will be built to a north eastern setting not unlike the Yorkshire dales. I also have a couple of trams my Dad built,i recently tried out, ones a runner, one isnt at present.guess luck one worked at all having never run on more than a test track and stored for twenty odd years !.Apart from oiling them before running, i will have a proper look when i get time.I wasnt going to run them on layout but SWMO stepped in and said why not incorporate them, so since a preserved line now come transport museum , guess they in. I have covered the building of the boards in layout and track design it can be viewed herewww.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/44680-fold-away-13-12-foot-x-4-foot-continuous-run As you can see still struggling for space so had to design it to fold away. Since the last photo was taken i have almost completed wiring and done rest of tracks in fiddle yard. Just got to make the facia for the control panel . Im finshing off the doors for the unit to hide layout when folded away, hopefuly done that by friday. Layed the platforms ready for balasting.Just finished signal box ready to plant Main Station building nearly finished ready to plant. Will post more photos when i can If you have read this far, thanks for staying with me and hopefuly catch up with you again soon.
