  1. Finally came up with a workable scheme to fit 2 layouts into a spare room. TT on the bottom and N on the top!

  2. Been buying US HO locomotives just to run on a mates layout. Am I mad??

Welcome to the dark side. :-)

  3. Just found an excellent Mk1 Triumph 2.5PI for next to nothing...might put a hold on the modelling budget for a while

Go for it, but look for a mark2 and swap the rear axle from that to yours. Wider track improves the handling! Oh and make yourself a brake adjuster tool for the rear brakes!

Is it possible to replace the engine with one from an E36 M3?

I agree with Jamie , I spent many an hour servicing them , and they were the

      Police ones too .

  4. Looking forward to running my new and one and only HO loco on a mate layout tomorrow - and I dont even model HO..

  5. I am in Woodend Victoria so just far enough away from Melbourne to be a pain but close enough to Bendigo/Ballarat. Model UK 3mm scale, US N scale an have 1 HO scale loco I take when visiting other modellers. Know a few other modellers in the region but none from here.
  6. Currently dabbling in N scale US outline (thinking Appalachia PRR coal line) and enjoying not knowing anything about the prototype and having to learn the fundamentals, again.

  7. There was a blink and you miss it EMU action in Sweeney2 when the boys run go accross an overbride chasing villans Superb continental action in the Great Escape The original day of the Triffids had a out of control train cash into a Terminus - IIRC filthy Black 5 Yes Minister - Jim Hacker goes to Scotland for an offical visit and byelections - Deltic and Mk1 sleeper action
  8. A RTR Fell or 10800? Well count me in I will certainly have one, especially if there is a coice of the 4-8-4 or 4-4-4-4 wheel arrangements!
  9. Blackburn South isn't that far away. I will have to see what we are doing on Sat, but if memory serves me right myself ans SWMBO are off looking at white goods for the new house as there are a couple of sales on this week I have a long way to go before baseboards are needed, just need to paint the house, put the carpet in, install bathrooms, wire up the lights and electrics....but I I made a new topic with a scematic and track plan so it is the 'offical' start to the project. Anyway, after that there is the 4mm project to fun the triang/dublo, a space of 5m X 5m....
  10. SRman, I see we have similiar issues not to mention the apparent lack of woodworking talent. this was from the old forum but still happens on a regular basis.
  11. Thanks Doug I will certainly take you up on that, I have been agonising about baseboards and trying to see how I can save leftovers from previous layouts. I must start a new planning topic for the MK2 version of the 3mm layout. I have a few sketch ideas that would benefit from the opinios of people on here. Nothing concrete yet though as I am building a new house with a 12 foot square bedroom that will house the layout. I will have to have a look at SRmans boards, I have been trying to see how it is constructed as all i need are frames and legs, I have a few ideas about the tops I want to try out. Also, where abouts are you, Woodend is far away from everyone I have noticed.
  12. What a great looking layout, excellent use of space with no duck under. I do love the baseboards, excellent quality work, I would happily commission DougN to build me some for the next iteration of the 3mm scale layout as I am hopless at woodwork.
  13. Just thought of a challenge, a layout that is all cliches, well deliberatley placing as many as possible. I reckon it would be great fun and not too difficult, afterall it could be a BLT, depo, rouindy with bridge for fiddle yard/scenic break with bus on, dairy in front of fiddle yard, funfair, Dr who box, train spotter, child waving, people running for the train, road accident, house on fire, nudists, retaining wall with shops behind...
  14. How to justify a Bachmann GWR 04 and SDJR 7f - and I dont even model 4mm scale !!

    EBay madness

That tudale is a great layout, exactly what I would like to have for my 00 stock and built to a higher standard than I could at the moment. If it was not for the price and the fact that transport a 1 pound per mile to Australia would double the cost it would be a done deal

    Mayshill - GWR

Great progress, loving the interior detail on the station, you have got alot further than me, even though we started at the same time with almost the same plan.

    Mayshill - GWR

Great progress and I do like the track plan, very usable and a lot of fun . A significant bonus I discovered from the small layout option is your enthusiasm stays high, opportunities for shortcuts are low and there is always the option to extend the layout if/when you have the space/time/resources....

    Mayshill - GWR

Have to agree with this, now is the time to model the GWR, luckily most of my models were made the last time the the GWR was popular!

    Mayshill - GWR

Nothing wrong with a GWR BLT , will be keen to see how it develops with the space considerations. I have to admit this topic was a bit of inspiration, I am just about to start layout dismantling in light of current house move, so enthusiasim has understandably dropped for the current layout. However, I remembered under the house I has some old kitchen cabinet bases, one of which is 5 foot by 16 inches - just right for a decent GWR BLT in 3mm scale (equivalent to almost 7 by 2 in 00). Now I have the track, wood, point motors, spare buidings, scenic material and everthing else from the never to be completed sections of the current layout so I might knock up something similiar over christmas..even better I can reuse the current centre fiddle yard complete.
  20. Only just rediscovered this layout as well, have enjoyed following the progress so far as we are in a similiar situation - return to modelling, whole room to play with, thing a bit course scale for the moment! The building and backscenes look very good indeed. I will be following the progres with much interest as I have decided to rebuild the current layout (due to house move) and construct my own (additional) GWR branch c1947-53 so I can run my panniers/2251s and other assorted stock.
  21. Hi PCM, great to see this layout on here, just like catching up with old friends. That class 40 pic is just magic, I will get to see this live one day I know!
  22. On the 8 track at the moment.. Ommadawn - Mike Oldfield
