  2. A pair of contemporary (or even pre-war) AEC engines would give 210-260hp depending on the type. Australia used a lot of GM 71 series engines in diesel railcars (conversions of petrol railcars and new builds) because they were cheap and plentiful after WW2, spares were easy to obtain (you can still buy new parts today) and there was no shortage of people with experience maintaining them. Using the 110 series too was a logical extension of the experience. Cheers David
  3. It could still be electric and operate much like an American "interurban". In which case it would probably have a trolley pole instead of a pantograph. Melbourne was still building trams with trolley poles up to 1985, and around 1984/85 experimented with dual height steps for ground or platform level loading. Something like this might have saved the Camden line. If it's run like an interurban it could haul the odd main line goods vehicle. You could even consider a combine or what the Americans would call a freight motor version, which would probably look something like a Bradfield parcels van. Cheers David
  4. Watched episode 2. Another classic race with a predictable and scripted but enjoyable finish. Just saying, there are buses that run non-stop from BUF to Niagara Falls. The Stigletto as the new test driver surprised me, although being from Yorkshire maybe it's not so surprising! Cheers David

  7. Despite the anti-public transport persona on TV, he is actually a railfan. In one of his books he wrote about his interest in things built in his home town (Doncaster) and about Deltics. Some (perhaps a lot) of it came out on the footplate of Tornado. Cheers David

  13. The first public service of the Queensland NGR from Varsity Lakes to Brisbane Airport yesterday. I really like the Aboriginal artwork wraps they got last week before entering service. It's called Travelling by Gilimbaa and "symbolises pathways across the land to the sea, opening up country and connecting the people of Queensland". Cheers David

  15. Just a thought, even though the 0-6-0 tender type was becoming dated the Fowler 4F was built up to 1941 and the Q1 was built in 1942. How would the Austerity have performed with a Fowleresqe tender instead of a saddle tank? Adhesion may not have been quite as good without 5t of water over the drivers. Cheers David

  21. It really comes down to prototype and era. Finding actual junction stations from the area and era you intend to represent will help. In general terms, one of these options wouldn't be unreasonable. Here are some actual (but simplified) arrangements which might give some inspiration. Apologies for being a bit GWR-centric.   22. Queensland's new NGR700 trains enter service next Monday, only 660 days after the first was delivered! The first public service is 6.25 from Varsity Lakes to Brisbane Airport. Cheers David
