  1. Most exotic train journey I've done is St. Petersburg to Moscow. And I slept through 99% of it! (To be fair, it was dark when we left St P and dark when we arrived in Moscow the next morning! B*gger. Pilot light's gone out and won't relight. Engineer coming out between 8 and 5 tomorrow...
  2. Lucky you, for a month's pay, I only get to Venice!
  3. Morning all! Good grief, beaten everyone in! Stayed up to watch Question Time. As we're meant to stay off politics, I'll refrain from making any comment on the policies of a certain party that was represented on the show. On safer ground, wasn't Dimbleby wearing a truly awful tie? Off to collect Jamie from her mother's this morning, taking her down to see my Mum and Dad for today and tomorrow. Going to swing by the office on the way down to Durham and introduce Jamie to my colleagues. Have a good day, all, TGIF...!
  4. Sorry to hear that Dd. I'm sure that if his widow does read the email, she'll understand that it's just your usual banter with him.
  5. Well, there was this old professor and a wardrobe, and through the wardrobe was this magical world called Narnia................. Funnily enough, when I think of the WWII evacuations, I do always think of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe...
  6. You couldn't be closer! I received an invitation to an event at the Scottish Parliament in November. The invite is addressed to Sir Mike Liddle. Everyone at work had a good giggle at that! We also got evacuated from the office when one of the servers began to belch smoke. Could be because I was doing some electronic filing... Unfortunately the alarm system picked today to go on the blink so we had the building manager come over the tannoy in a very panicked voice telling us all to evacuate the building immediately. I should have taken my invitation with me in case it went up in smoke! Think I might have to frame that...
  7. Well so far today, I've been enobled and evacuated. Whatever next?
  8. I've still got 2 rashers in the fridge - meant to stick them in the spag bol I made on Monday and completely forgot... Haven't any bread in the house just now though, so they'll have to wait... Morning all, dry and high broken cloud here, though can't tell quite yet how many oktas... still a little too dark for that! Yesterday was a weird day - it never really got light up here - low dark cloud all day, but no rain after dawn. Fabulous bright orange sunset as there was a break in the cloud at the horizon, but otherwise a really dull winter's day... Felt like 5pm ALL DAY...!
  9. Now, now, let's not be rash(er)...
  10. Yes, I'm still sniffling away too... Funny that, it does feel a bit like a Monday. Blame the wet weather. Time for a bigger screen Don... They've just announced 27" iMacs... Congrats on the new arrival Phil! No, it's the same on Safari. The new forum doesn't seem to like pictures yet... I think Andy has a big stick that he's using to repeatedly hit UK2 until the forum DOES like pictures...
  11. Prepare for the next downtime, Andy's going to scrap the forum and just make us tweet instead...
  12. Good to know my instruction guide worked! I've just received at least a dozen ER email updates at the same time...
  13. Indeed, I've been an irregular Twitterer for a few months now...
  14. I believe the verb is "to tweet"... Unless you're David Cameron. His excuse for not using Twitter was "too many twits [sic] make a tw*t"...
  15. Morning all! Think StocktonDarlington may have been looking for the Lounge on the previous forum... When I was at Uni, our Hall Committee's computer convener went out and bought a second- (or probably fourth-) hand Kray supercomputer. The thing sat in the middle of the computer room (nearly broke the lift getting it up there) for four years. Don't know if he ever got it working, but it did provide him with a lovely rubber-coated metal roller which he referred to as his LERT = Luser Existence Rectification Tool. Used to gently wallop LUSERs (little users) over the head with when they asked stupid questions. Like "Why is there a non-functioning Kray supercomputer taking up most of the room in here?" or "why did you spend money on that when you could have actually got some computers that work for people to check their email on?"... Definitely a BOFH...
  16. I've just worked out how to use the Multiquote function... Select two Multiquote buttons (or more). Then rather than use the "Fast Reply" box, click "Add Reply" just above the "Fast Reply" box and the posts you want to quote will appear in the editor.
  17. I seem to either get no emails, or emails every single time anyone posts on this topic... Having problems finding the old style setting where you just get one email until you read the topic! Currently inundated with about 100 emails in 24 hours all on Early Risers!! Morning all, 7 oktas and a sore throat here. Going to pop into work and see if I can just bring a load of reading material home and work from the flat today...
  18. I wonder how we ever coped on 24.4kbps... Ooh, am I a ringleader?
  19. Morning all, sky's just beginning to lighten here. There are definitely oktas... Going into work for one meeting then having the rest of the day off as I have a friend staying with me last night and tonight. See you all on the other side...
  20. I must go down to the sea again, To the lonely sea and sky. I left my shoes and socks there, I wonder if they're dry? Morning all. I only have one rabbit dropping too and am a "registered member" so I guess the theory is sound - those of us having to re-register. Suppose I ought to go to work... Can't remember, has BoD made it across to the new ERs yet?
  21. Why have I woken up at this time?
  22. Morning all! Seems I'm one of the 15%, but never mind, I made it! Catch up with you all in a bit when I've had a proper mooch round the new site...
