  1. I was in 5th Durham cubs, green six (so I had a green woggle). Our neckerchief was half grey, half maroon. I got my bronze and silver arrows but never completed my gold arrow. I think I was about 2 activities away from getting it too when I had to leave. I sometimes wish I could go back and finish it! I mentioned this to a friend who said: "I have 3 words for you: LET IT GO!"...
  2. Were they running around with flaming bibles??
  3. Morning all. Frosty here as well this morning, so I'd best watch my step on the way to work. Need to be in for a 9 o'clock Monday meeting. Something I swore I'd never schedule and then had to... Pics when I get chance (and when I work out how to add them - not done that in the new forum yet!).
  4. Evening all! Had a busy day out and about with Jamie. She's now crawling very happily and can now kneel. Next stop walking, I think... He might need the snake's bottle brush to get it out again... The Chilean red will probably help the mood but not the motor skills... Good luck with the tooth.. Got my check up due in about a month.
  5. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/sussex/8333774.stm not condoning the theft, but maybe they replaced the copper with fibre and a simlar event in Tony's area might boost his Internet speed...
  6. Getting the Christmas presents in en route to Morrisons? Lovely photo, that second one, of the kingfisher. I think so long as you're not disturbing them you're ok to photograph them.
  7. Can you name and shame the company, Dave?
  8. Feeling distinctly tired this morning. Didn't get home until after 9 from the Parliament, and pretty much went straight to bed with my book after a wee bit of pottering around on the internet. Grey here, should already be at work, but I'll set off imminently... [plug] One of my closest friends is in a band called The Cheap Suits, and they've just released a single called Afghan Dawn. It's available on iTunes and other music sites. All proceeds are being donated to the charity Afghan Heroes which is helping to support members of the British Armed Forces. They'd like to get the song into the Top 40, so if you've got 79p to spare to download it from iTunes, I'd urge you to get it! There's a story in The Evening Chronicle (local Newcastle paper) here: http://tiny.cc/NHN6D - please ignore the release date, it's out now! [/plug]
  9. I'll bet the organisers are hoping there are more than 5 of you descending on High Wycombe show! Morning all, bright and sunny in Edinburgh. A full day's work ahead followed by a reception in the Scottish Parliament tonight (at which I suppose I shall have to hand back my knighthood...) Don - I think Jam's just missing teachers on Monday while the teachers speak to next year's prospective students (or I guess prospective teachers, if they've got student teachers coming).
  10. Morning all! Glad to hear things are perhaps a bit better today, Robert. I had to google paternoster too. I had seen them before on tv, but have never seen a working one up close. Bought a new mouse yesterday - it's an Apple Magic Mouse and it's pretty funky! It has no buttons or scroll wheel, yet works more efficiently than my old wired mouse...
  11. Afternoon all. Thought I'd be out today but still feeling rough after 2 weeks + of this cold so am watching the F1 in the warm and dry.
  12. Morning all from a pitch black but not foggy Inverness (Inbhir Nis in Gaelic). Spent yesterday some 16 miles from mobile phone reception, started getting twitchy after a few hours! heading back up there in a minute or two. Happy Friday all!
  13. Morning all from a pitch black and foggy Inverness. No chance of counting the oktas for the fog... Getting a bit fed up of the sniffles, have had this cold on and off now for nearly a fortnight. Keep thinking it's shifted then it comes back!
  14. Morning all! Last day in the office for this week, then a drive up to Inverness tonight. Still haven't packed. Will do that when I get home from work, as I had planned to do it last night but wasn't feeling well so gave up on the idea! Have a good hump day, all!
  15. Morning all. Bingo! Full House! Well, of oktas at any rate... Ground's wet too. Trip to the Parliament at lunchtime to watch the Finance Committee. Someone prod me if I fall asleep.
  16. Most of the time I'm a desk jockey. There are rare occasions I get to go and do interesting things, like gralloching and shooting things. Won't be shooting any live targets, only paper ones. Tomorrow, though, I'll possibly be visible in the audience here: www.holyrood.tv/committee.asp - Committee Room 1, where the Finance Committee will be scrutinising the Public Services Reform (Scotland) Bill... Or not. :icon_eek: Might see if I can bring back some venison with me though...
  17. Morning all! Just about to head to the office. A day of trudging through the accumulated emails of the last year awaits... On the plus side, although I'm working all 5 days this week, it'll feel like a 3 day week, as on Thursday and Friday, I'm going to be in the Inverness area learning how to gralloch deer (amongst other deer-related activities). Planning to drive up after work on Wednesday and stay in Inverness until Saturday morning.
  18. That was clearly a conversation killer, Phil! Boiler's (mostly) functional again... Pilot light has gone out twice more since the engineer's visit, but (touch wood) seems to be holding up ok now and lit at first ignition on both occasions...
  19. Been in this flat 6 and a half years now, and I think that boiler's had about 3 thermocouples since I've been here! Thought it had gone again last time it failed but it was down to a drop in pressure, apparently. Tested that this time before I called the engineer too, so could well be the thermocouple this time... Trouble is, it's such an ancient boiler they never have the right thermocouple with them and it always ends up taking about 3 visits to get sorted... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOA_SUKEZRE
  20. Morning all! No sign of the engineer yet, but it's still early. Just had breakfast (waffles and golden syrup) so had to clean myself up before typing, as I was a sticky mess! I've got some names for boiler installers too. I'll definitely be shopping around for cheaper quotes than the British/Scottish Gas ones...!
  21. Good thought, Tony - I'll need to check my policy. Thanks! I know I asked Scottish Gas for a quote for a new boiler about a year ago, and they said around ??4,000 - and they'd need to put scaffolding around the flats to install the new boiler's roof vent. I didn't take them up on their kind offer...!!
  22. Yep. And the hot water. I have a prehistoric boiler, unfortunately, and the costs of replacing it are rather high... By the way, BoD, have you seen this (reported in yesterday's Grauniad too)? - Finds in River Wear
