  1. Happy New Year everyone! Hope 2010 is a good year for you all!
  2. Yep, up near Beamish at Mum and Dad's. We've had some heavy snow showers today. The dogs came back from their walk with hard balls of snow attached to all four (well, 8) legs and their beards...
  3. Morning all! Had light fresh snow overnight and have had a mini-blizzard this morning. The world looks very pretty in monochrome. Hope everyone enjoys their Hogmanay this evening. Quiet one for me, just with my parents this year.
  4. Is it safe to not mention it now it's finished? ;-) Morning all! Think I'm going to the shops today. Oh lucky me... Must remember iPod/Prozac/electric cattle prod...
  5. SA had rather a batting collapse... 76/6 when bad light stopped play. All the key SA players out. Boucher and Morkel were still at the crease at stumps.
  6. Thanks, both Don and Gordon. Now on a proper computer and have shown parents your photo Gordon, and shown the link.
  7. Thanks Don! Didn't help that I was using the wrong search term. Was looking a day or two ago and couldn't remember the name! I'll have to look on a proper computer, my iPhone doesn't give the post numbers!
  8. Morning all. Sorry to hear that news Don, not a nice way to start the day. Dd - we've just had a light covering overnight. Has the predicted foot of snow arrived yet in Wales? Good luck keeping warm. Gordon - my parents' house is rather cold in places and I mentioned a wood-burning stove. Tried to find the picture you'd posted but 90 pages was rather a lot to search through! A search for "stove" mostly brought up Stove R results! Could you post a link to the manufacturers' website, please?
  9. Morning all! Slept rather late today. I'm down at my parents' and there are blackout curtains in my room! Going to have to leave them partly open or set an alarm! Dominik - I'll have to reply to your pm when I work out what all those acronyms mean! Not sure what the plan for today is. I think Mum is planning to visit Metro Centre for shopping. I think if the queues are anything like those mentioned on the Boxing Day national news at Metro (45 minute queue in Next), I'd rather hack my hand off with a rusty saw...! Dad tried to take my car to get his papers on Saturday. I looked out of the window to find him revving the engine like an F1 car with the wheels spinning on the ice in the drive and the car going nowhere. By the time I'd made it outside, he had the bonnet up, with smoke coming out and a very unpleasant smell! Blooming boy racer... Think he might have partially burnt out my clutch!
  10. Afternoon all! Hope you've all been having a fun time. Think I'll watch Hamlet tonight. The parents will be watching Harry Hill and YBF, so I mught show a bit of kultur. Debating going to buy a new tv in the sales. My tvs are still CRT ones, so I might see about replacing the lounge tv with a flat screen one... Thaw seems to be in progress here in County Durham...
  11. I know exactly what you mean Robert! Not to mention January, February, March, April, June...
  12. Merry Hornby to you all. Oops, sorry, Merry Christmas! (Merry LNER from Hornby too...)
  13. Morning all! Last day, thank goodness! Our work canteen closes at 12pm today so I suspect most in the office will take that as a sign to go home shortly afterwards... I quite enjoy the snow - though I didn't much enjoy driving in it on Saturday when it was falling and the road was shut! Still, it adds an extra bit of excitement to the drive, and looks very pretty! No fresh snow in Leith this morning, so the pavements will be treacherous with yesterday's stuff compacted down into thick ice. Merry Christmas to everyone celebrating it today!
  14. buy a Magic Mouse - they're superb!
  15. Morning all. Fresh covering of snow here and it feels mighty chilly. Forecast for 9am today was -5C. Happy Christmas to all those signing off this morning for the festive season!
  16. Could be worse. I bought smoked salmon at Asda and the pack said "Contains fish". NO! REALLY?! I always thought salmon was a bird. It's the way they leap up waterfalls, obviously. Been there myself. Mine's an older boiler and rarely does it get repaired on the first call out. Normally second or third. I'll tell Mum to put extra sprouts on BoD. She should be putting them in to cook about now.
  17. Morning all! Light dusting of fresh snow here - and I'm right on the coast, so I expect it'll be worse inland. 3 working days to go...
  18. So if I get mown down by a convertible Ka in Inverness, at least I'll know the driver! RMweb addiction is clearly much worse than we thought if it forced PhilH to go to PC World...
  19. Have a good Christmas Phil, hope the information on your laptop is recoverable or you have backups!
  20. Morning all. Despite the forecast, no new snow here. About to set off to slide into work! JohnDMJ - enjoy your holiday! Robert - have fun with the RPSB... (no, not the RSPB... that's the Royal Society for the Prevention of Birds, according to Clarkson...) BoD - good luck in the snow down there!
  21. is going to make 3 NY resolutions. 1 - get fit. 2 - learn to ski. 3 - do some flipping railway modelling!!

  22. My cousin was stuck overnight in Hartlepool as she couldn't get back to Peterlee. That's punishment, if ever I heard of it!
  23. York, Swindon, Darlington, Mid-Hants Railway? No new snow in Leith this morning, but it's due to have some snow showers today. After yesterday's trek, I think I'm going to stay indoors today if at all possible!
  24. Evening all, safely back in Edinburgh - eventually - having dropped Jamie back at her Mum's. Got held up west of Haltwhistle as an M&S lorry had jackknifed on the bank and had to wait while snowploughs and gritters circled that section. Was considering turning tail. Another jackknifed lorry on the eastbound carriageway a mile or so into Cumbria completely closed the road eastbound. Westbound traffic could just crawl past. Took 2.5 hours to Carlisle and then another 2 up the M6/74. Washers froze up 40 miles south of Glasgow. And again on the journey across to Edinburgh. -6C at Shotts and a positively balmy -2C on Queensferry Road in Edinburgh. Moral of the tale - don't go out there!!!
