  1. Was impressed with the Black Cats yesterday! And that's some scoreline from Spurs. On a sad note, Paul O'Grady's dog Buster has died. Surprised that didn't make the front pages... Can't believe there are 6 bridges already collapsed in Cumbria and another condemned. I hear that some residents are having a 90 mile trip to get from one end of a bridge to the other. Shouldn't the army be building an emergency bailey bridge or something?
  2. Dominik - you can only do your best - don't cram to the point when your head's ready to explode. Make sure you take plenty of breaks. I always liked to take a break every so long and play guitar. Friends always said I seemed really calm going into exams, when inside I could be squirming, with guts tied in a knot!
  3. Afternoon all! Very damp here in Edinburgh. Hasn't really got light all day. Been reading a novel since I woke up, just finished it. Hope everyone who's there enjoys Warley and if they so desire, gets their hands on one of the wagons that seem to go for stupid sums on eBay...
  4. Morning all. No probs here, BoD - Maybe the RMweb server for the north of England's in Cockermouth? Woke with a sore back this morning. This is good, though it took about 5 minutes of waking up to understand why this is good. For about the first time in over a month of having this lurghy I didn't wake up with a dry mouth, sore throat and in desperate need of a drink of water! The back's only mildly sore, it's fine. Just took me a few confusing moments to realise that the other pain had gone! Full set of oktas here and raining gently. The Water of Leith had a flood warning on it yesterday. Fortunately I'm a good 400 yards plus from it and it's tidal where I live, so there's a nice big river basin there to (hopefully) handle any extra water. It was pretty fast moving and very brown as I crossed it on the way home from work at 6 o'clock last night.
  5. Eek, that's some weather forecast... Good luck Dd, hope the diversion works, should the waters rise that far. Getting light here, steady but not too heavy rain. Noisy neighbours kept me awake a little longer than I'd hoped last night but otherwise not too bad a night's sleep. Time to find some tea. Managed to survive a full working day yesterday but only by dint of constant hot sweet tea flowing over my vocal cords!!
  6. I heard on the traffic news that the Tees has burst its banks at Croft too. Fortunately, I think it's far enough away from the motor racing circuit not to affect that...
  7. Morning! Still very croaky here. Fortunately my Sinopes are clearer... :-)
  8. Leonid meteor shower should reach it's peak 9pm tonight. Sadly it's just changed from cloudy to pouring here in Edinburgh so little hope of seeing any.
  9. Why do you need shelves on a bike? Morning again, all! Sounds a painful experience with the screws! I'm doing a passable impression of Johnny Vegas this morning. Have phoned in to work as I had a really disturbed sleep and am not feeling great... Time for another lemsip...
  10. Been awake an hour roughly. Just had a lemsip and hoping to get back to sleep shortly for a couple of hours at least. And I'm so pleased you picked the LNER CME. Much better than the other 3 of the Big Four railway companies...
  11. Nope, not allergies. Continuation of this dratted URTI. Now very hoarse and losing my voice. Am about to have a hot toddy, so the whisky content might hasten the loss of the power of speech.
  12. Weather now upgraded (?downgraded?) from misty to absolutely blooming persisting down...
  13. Morning all. Very misty here, 15 miles inland from BoD. I don't know if I'm suddenly allergic to something at my parents' or if my cold's still lingering on but I've woken up choked up again and with a sore throat. If it's just the cold then it's been lingering for a full 4 weeks now! Thanks BoD for the link for the exhibition. Sadly I think I'll have to miss Darlington show, as I'm down here the following weekend anyway, and my petrol bill will be off the scale at this rate!
  14. I leave mine untreated too. They've been fine over several years. I pay the extra ??2 to get the little metal thing on the spine to hold the label... Just been out with Mum and Dad's dogs, saw a shooting star near the Pleiades. Think it must have been left over from August. Not saying what I wished for!
  15. Simon - Following BoD's comment I wondered if it was the Darlington Show coming up. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Exhibition pages on the Darlington MRC website don't say the date of the exhibition!
  16. IKEA Mackis Magazine files These are the ones - not cheap at a fiver each, but they're very sturdy (much better than the card ones that you fold yourself) and have a slot for an identification label.
  17. Morning Robert and Dominik in Germany, and all the late risers in the UK! Off to collect Jamie from her Mum's this morning and take her down to my folks' down in Durham for today and tomorrow. The only plus side about going to IKEA is the plywood magazine files - sadly I'm running out of room to store them all (they're great, each is just the right size for a year's worth of Railway Modellers or Model Rail...).
  18. I need my hair cut today but I certainly won't be asking for a Beckham... Pleased about the Test Matches too. I do miss watching live cricket as I don't have Virgin or Sky either. I have my freeview boxes which are good enough for me. Though I do sometimes wish I could see things like Stargate Universe which are only on Sky...
  19. Fairly wet up here too, seemed to come on between pub 2 and pub 3 (which was also pub 1)...
  20. Morning all. 4 oktas here, ground's damp, but it looks like it's clearing. Had another disturbed night, keep waking up during the night and have been awake on and off since about 4.30. Hopefully a couple of drinks tonight at a colleague's leaving do will prevent the same happening tonight!
  21. I had to wear shorts at school until I was 11. Been an extraordinarily busy few days at work. Looking forward to a quieter day tomorrow followed by leaving drinks for a colleague. After the week our team's had, we'll be very glad of a pint/g&t/babycham.......
  22. Thanks Don, that makes us feel SO much better...! Morning all. Went back to the car last night to drive it in to work and leave it in the secure car park. On my way home, stood on a one inch spike that went clean through the sole of my shoe, thankfully stopped at my skin and didn't puncture that as I felt it and didn't complete the step. Clearly not my day, yesterday. Good luck at court, Mick - hope the builders have to cough up! Tony - how much did you find under your pillow? Hope you remembered to check! The world outside is a distinctly strange colour this morning - almost yellow/brown. There's 8 oktas, rain, a rainbow and there must be some sun trying to creep through somewhere. It almost looks like the world's partially enveloped by mustard gas...
  23. Just had a visit from the boys in blue... In one of the neighbouring streets there's an ongoing neighbourhood dispute. One family in particular is being verbally abused regularly by others in the area. This evening on her way back from the local Tesco Express to her flat, a 16 year-old from the family who's getting abused had a plate thrown at her (while she was pushing a pram/buggy with a baby in it too). Fortunately it missed both her and the baby. Unfortunately, I'd had to park in that street as my own was full, and it hit my car and smashed the windscreen. :icon_mad: Going to have to drive the car with spider web design windscreen to work in the morning, and pay ??70 excess to get the windscreen replaced. And the police don't know who threw the plate, and there's no CCTV, so it doesn't look like there's any hope of seeing my ??70 again. :icon_frustrated: :icon_frustrated: :icon_frustrated:
  24. Morning all, just a quick post as I'm at work! Slept badly last night, was awake at quarter to four so finished off my book... Been listening to the new Shirley Bassey album which is great, particularly the song The Girl From Tiger Bay. Must put in a sig at some point... Mike
  25. Yep! It turned into an internet cafe/bar (Saints) by the time I was at Uni. Went in there a few times for drinks, was a very strange experience drinking in what used to be the old cubs rooms!!
