  1. In the early 1950's my Gran use to put on the Sunday table a joint which apparently was lamb at one end pork the other (or perhaps beef) - well what she actually said was "pork or Lamb?" and would slice off the said choice from one or other end of the joint. This of course maybe why I'm not renowned for knowing my meats, but the positive side is at least as children we were asked what we would like.

TIC - At the moment 8 bids from six people, so some people are taking it seriously....

Perhaps the price reflects the reason I'm a modeller rather than 'A Collector' - Not a lot of cash available. I would have bought the model and ditched the box, changed the wheels, added proper couplings and ran it on the layout. Ooops, sorry, recycled the box...
  4. .... and 'in the wrong place at the wrong time'. when it could be the wrong place at the right time or the right place at the wrong time, too.... Doesn't in the wrong place at the wrong time intimate they are in the right place. The misuse of bought and brought, I admit I rhyme 'brought with bring' and 'bought with buy', but then my English teacher in the 50's had some good ways of getting things into our brain!!!
  5. ...Like asking them to fit a new rotor arm in the dizzy...... (I have a few Austin 7's).
  6. But, they do know it all, it's just that they don't think, I think that's all we need to know!!!!

Just to counter most of the above........ Bought a couple of LED torches to make uncouplers, as seen on another layout. Paid on 23/8, delivery from Hong Kong, quoted as 9th - 24th Sept, arrived today 30th Aug. Agreed postmark is for Colnbrook/Slough - but still excellent service. And as an aside - cheaper and better than some I bought at a recent show which turned out to have filament bulbs and were not very bright anyway (or perhaps that's me!!!). The down side is my co-operators have now asked me to get some more (10, in time for the Cardiff show in October......). The seller is sellerbible for UXCELL.COM
  8. "....sequences shortened..." on keypad/touchscreen demos.
  9. TIC - Whereas the lorry appears to be on the other side of the double yellow lines......
  10. Well thought through and the stock required interesting, that eureka moment (no fiddle boards 'have' to be attached all the time) is simple in hindsight, it's the journey there that can be so frustrating. I shall follow your progress with interest, and hopefully see the layout fully functioning, eventually.
  11. Yes, there's two on the road at present, and another one at the back of the garage. Each does about 2k miles a year - this one's just back from La Rochelle. The other one is the daily run-about when the modern's trapped on the drive etc., I have 5 engines all ready to go and/or in the cars
  12. Horsetan said 'Still wish I had my 1973 Ro80' I still have my first car, bought in 1960... This was a side street in Winchester and I still got done for obstruction!!!! - how much room did they need to pass me? PS - No that wasn't my oil on the road. and it was only 26 years old then (1934 - 1960) - I've had it 51 years now ......
  13. It looks like an American interpretation of a classic Merc., from the 30's.
  14. Nissan S-Cargo, 'The Snail', we have one at our local Auto-parts dealer in Penzance - Roadrunner, been around for years.
  15. I thought the floppy leg stuff was a none contact activity, hands off (like Gaelic/Ozzy Football ), or "look no hands" .... So Vol 2 must be very thin! Edit :- Unfortunately once things like this have a wider audience, plus we've joined the EU, look what happens http://www.britainsg...reek-Irish-Danc
  16. Nice one, and my grand-daughters liked it too - so bonus lepricorn points for Grand-dad.....
  17. As a large 'Public Body' is it possible it would cost them more to lift the track than the actual value of the track. By a Public Body, I mean a accountable, full H&S, full working practices, admin etc., Company. I agree with DavidH too about policing the area, further cost's.
  18. I worked on The Hants & Dorset in the early 60's for a time - more money than an office job - perhaps you were finishing a game of snooker on your break? Mind you our station Inspector was sharp about buses going out on time, the Tannoy could be very loud in the canteen/snooker area if you were a few seconds late.
  19. In your first para. “we can make one for you but it will have to be a cheese and tomato sandwich but we won’t put the tomato in it!†It may help to bear in mind the personell serving you are probably not allowed to use much initiative, plus there may not be a pricing structure/facility on the till for a Cheese (only) sandwich, thus they have to put it through as a 'Cheese and Tomato Sandwich' for stock taking purposes...... in our youth we wouldn't mention that last bit, just take the money, but I understand they have to 'be honest' with the customer - in case there's a query. I ordered the vegetarian pasta and was told for an extra £2 I could have chicken breast with it! Ah, but did you tell them you were ordering the Veggie Pasta because your a Veggie. They are trying to bump up the sales. I have a lot of Pasta with Chicken, Beef etc., I like, if not live on, cheese sandwiches, that doesn't mean I'm..... oh no please lets not go down that road. The one I like is "Oh, we don't get much call for those, your the 6th person to ask for one this week". and, "That is the last time, ever, the offer at £4.50 for 4 cans of Magners 'original' Cider, will be available".... Next week the special offers back on (equates to £2.25 a litre). Normal price £5.99 for 4 cans (£3 / litre). PLD's - Friend to serving girl in cafe: "I'll have a black coffee please" - serving girl: "would you like milk or cream with that?" Been there, got it all, and I just sort of smile......
  20. One of the other videos - it's no. 8 of 9 seen along the bottom when the above vidios finished 'Flying at Pwllheli (1911)' looks interesting, I did wonder about the houses on the other side of the field. And as for the man holding the plane back............ And I see there's a Domestic Science one too - Making Rabbit Pies - I wonder how that would go down in schools today. Great Films, thanks Michael.

    It's called an Oxymoron....
  22. We now seem to have normal service.......
  23. I've had the black bar across the top for a week or two, but that was just a cosmetic thing for me. This posting is from my wife's laptop (I'm on Coastwatch duty), using Google Chrome there's no problem, black bar across the top, left hand side menu can be scrolled and the pictures can be scrolled down over many pages. When I get back to my own PC, will check if it's corrected itself - doubt it, I've just tried accessing Google via IE8 or 9 on this laptop and still have the same problem. As there has been a number of Microsoft updates very recently, I presume (dangerous thing to do) one of them has corrupted it's own product (IE8/9) or they don't like Google!
  24. I use Google search with Images a lot, today things seem to have changed. I have IE8, always with the images there were say 16 pictures on screen with a page number top LH corner in the display area, by pressing 'page down' page 2 and another 16 images appear, etc., down to about page 15 - my results like this have been there for about 2 years. Today, things seem to have changed, there's a left hand column which cannot be scrolled down/up, there is evidently some data on the edge of the bottom of the screen and I can extropolate there is more further down off screen. There is not a page number at the top of the display, there's only 16 pictures displayed, you can scroll down the area where there should be pages/pictures, but it's blank. There's no facility to go to next page - e,g, Name Google at bottom of page and a line of page numbers to select from - they are not there, which as there are say 51,200 images for LNWR, I can only see the first 18... there's no facility to move on. Finally, next to bottom 'bar' at left hand edge it shows 'Error on Page' rather than 'Done' - OK, I know that might be a clue, but why.............(and not that it's a clue). Anybody know what's happened, please.
  25. Desparete to start a (big) family then are you? which may of course later help justify a train set Today, well apart from the distance to Stafford - 600 mile round trip, 20 galls of fuel and on the A30/M5/M6... I have a couple of holiday let changeovers (no, I don't own them, cleaning's part of the unplanned pension plan). I've been asked to design and print off a 100 numbered tickets for a Cheese & Wine party ASAP, and the posters..... There's been a couple of emails re. next weekends Austin 7 (1923 - 1939) rally in the village that needs a bit of sorting.... The B&B's going mad - nice weather = coast path walkers = last minute long term plans...... And the sun is shining, The dogs (Lab/Collie crosses) want out, yet it's to hot for them - apart from the pond! Oh! and a child seems to have found some exposed wires to a 240V cable for the lights around the harbour - think Carnival, not Christmas lights ( http://www.mouseholelights.org.uk/ ), as I'm the everyday Christmas Harbour Lights electrician, another little job to sort....... Wouldn't it be nice to be in Stafford to collect my raffle prize!!!
