  1. A fellow walks into a bar very down on himself. As he walks up to the bar the bartender asks, "what's the matter?" The fellow replies, "well I've got these two horses (sniff, sniff), and well... I can't tell them apart. I don't know if I'm mixing up riding times or even feeding them the right foods." The bartender, feeling sorry for the guy, tries to think of something he can do. "Why don't you try shaving the tail of one of the horses?" The man stops crying and says, "that sounds like a good idea, I think I'll try it." A few months later he comes back to the bar in worse condition than he was before. "What's the matter now?" the bartender asks. The fellow, in no condition to be in public, answers, "I shaved the tail of one of the horses (sob, sob), but it grew back and I can't tell them apart again!" The bartender, now just wanting him to shut up or leave says, "why don't you try shaving the mane, maybe that will not grow back." The fellow stops crying, has a few drinks, and leaves. A few months later the fellow is back in the bar. The bartender has never seen anybody in this sorry of a state. Without the bartender even asking, the fellow breaks into his problems. "I... I shaved the (sob) mane of one of the (sniff) horses, and... it... it... grew back!" The bartender, now furious at the guy's general stupidity, yells, "for crying out loud, just measure the stupid horses. Perhaps one is slightly taller that the other one!" The fellow can not believe what the bartender has said and storms out of the bar. The next day the fellow comes running back into the bar as if he had just won the lottery. "It worked, it worked!" he exclaims. "I measured the horses and the black one is two inches taller than the white one!"
  2. This is a location that has always interested me - I have had 2or3 attempts already at building goods yard style layouts inspired by the location and soon intend to start with another. I also have a good number of photos taken in the location and surrounds (see old forum thread http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=40458 this was the most complete version but eventually thwarted by a house move!) - feel free to borrow or ignore any of the pics in there ! However it was not a total exact rendition which would be much more interesting if you have the space, enjoyed looking at the trackplan and your old pics at the start of the thread - & will watch with interest! Good luck if you decide to go ahead!

its ok found there was 1 set off check rail gauges left so bought them will be able to use to make plain track without checkrails too if needed - I am thick sometimes lol

Check DCCConcepts website, they have a full range of track gauges

  6. I had half-guessed you would already be aware of this site!
  7. see Saddleworth buses website : http://davidbeilby.zenfolio.com/p641455816/h62f71b8#h62f71b8 this is but one pic but there are plenty pics with Saddleworth viaduct background - but the link shared here may be appreciated by Larry?
  8. Edinburgh was an obvious candidate but so was queen street in Glasgow remember looking at several pics in OPC profile of 26/27s with buses passing over : http://www.eastbank.org.uk/images/Glasgow/BW01.jpg this probably predates that and obviously the awful event on Monday
  9. its just a case of right time right place right weather - and the West Highland scenery cant really be beaten -all taken on mine or wifes phone camera so nothing flashy there lol You get good cloud/lighting effects too- - many of my pics fall into scenery rather then weather though? note 'Kelpie' cloud! the only place sun shining! this is Southend (argyll not essex!) Mull of Kintyre with hills in Ireland behind.
  10. Couple of sunsets to balance things out - - in Glen Orchy on the B road from Bridge of Orchy to Dalmally - this is from Westport Beach nr.Campbeltown Still calm days of which we dont get enough of -this was November - wandering around in shirt sleeves lol at Loch Etive
  11. Those who get me via facebook will know I like my sunsets, occassionally the earlybird gets the worm - this one is sunrise this morning at Inveraray
  12. need to look again at this- might fit in the APA box in N wi my wee Dapol 26 Never remake a model but the original Deadwater trackplan & buildings was as accurate to the real location as my abilities would allow- and it gave me much happiness
  13. Liking the look of these - and they way card modelling has come of age again with the newer enhanced printing methods. - good luck with the venture!
  14. Well I managed to forego the temptation last summer. Sell of all my N gauge stuff over this winter including even all the little leftover 'bits' that you tend to hang onto as they'll not fetch much even if you do successfully manage to sell them.... then bought this! (and yes I have noticed its a 26, lol )
  15. Nice work! will keep an eye on this
  16. Nice to see this back on again! - having just finished clearing out all my 2mm stuff on Ebay what did I just go & buy? - a Dapol 26 lol!
  17. It'll be interesting to see what you fit in in N . Got a couple of OO versions on the go!
  18. Someone asked earlier about Maryport & Carlisle? I have found a picture of one at Coniston - getting closer http://chasewaterstuff.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/coniston1.jpg?w=800
  19. Good to see you are still busy with the layout, I managed to build a passable station frontage out of the plans in the RM article it may be finished & grace a layout at some point in the future. See you also fell for the charms of the Bachmann Cravens despite it not being quite right for the ones in this area, I got the green speed whiskers one, love it but nowhere to run it yet. Have you tried changing the destinations or just living with it? Very E. Anglian destinations on the one I have it would be interesting to know if they can be changed? did you use branchline axles for the conversion?
  20. Its dark in the evenings, X factor, COme Dancing shite on the TV, and finally ' I'm a self-obcessed f@nny get me out of here' yep its layout planning season again!

Thanks Russ, I thought I was the only one who couldn't take all that cr@p supposed to be "entertainment", now I

      know I'm not alone.

P.S. You missed out a special mention for Ant & Dick, the most pointless pair since tits on a bull.

  21. H'mm interesting - its not somewhere I think I've ever been (but have been to nearby Sheringham - ultimate S-L-T for the BR station ) - & unlikely to get again as moved significantly more northerly & not far off as west as you can get without getting wet feet lol! - the arial view looks a bit like how the now much rationalised Mallaig looks- but without runround (def not first gen.DMU friendly lol) The unit I have already is a cravens in green - I think they were quite commonplace in Norfolk so will think on it a bit more? - the supermarket would not have been there of course but can always think of something else. Trouble is the supermarket was prob built on the site of a huge-mongous goods yard!!!
  22. - true what I'm looking for is minimal depth length wont be as huge a problem if I go with the (house) location I'm thinking of ... - ie back to front on a shelf so I believe a two face island platform is going to be the best & believable, esp if as in 'Newcastle Haymarket' it is on an elevated viaduct it gives a good reason for keeping things as tight as possible?
  23. I was, having possibly found a space for a small-medium shelf layout, (rather than the apa box style thing I was looking at) looking at the Newcastle Haymarket type of plan with just a single island platform- but then with a 'minories' style approach so each platform could be accessed . I've also developed a bit of a thing for the old first generation DMU's despite despising them back in the day, The original Newcastle Haymarket was a single line in/out but I felt even in the direst days of rationalisation that wasn't prototypical for an urban location, though I do believe right at the end of Bradford F. Sq before the new station was built there were two turnouts back to back with effectively albeit very short single line between the two turnouts . In its rebuilt version there was double track but each platform was not accessible from each line. So atm I'm thinking of taking the simple & (importantly narrow board width you could get) with the 2 platform island, but the flexibility and slightly less boring operation of having both platforms being accessible from a double track approach ? A scissors crossover would undoubtedly work for this but I doubt I could build one.
  24. Have you tried 'Lost Railways of West Yorkshire' website - not got the links handy but you will get it on Google?
