  1. We asked, and our request was very politely declined.
  2. There is a lot of optimism that the Cleveland Browns may be the surprise team this season. Clever drafting, clever trading and the fact they are not in the strongest division. In Tyrod Taylor and rookie Baker Mayfield, they seem to have two quarterbacks of quality. So we shall see, you may have heard it here first. They may even do better than the Redskins. No convinced that Alex Smith will be good enough to marshall a mediocre team.
  3. They are different for our field of interest. For many other subjects that are advertised, they would probably be the norm.
  4. The following has been put on another thread so as to end speculation about who Fay is,and why we use her. "Hopefully you will permit me to clear up a couple of aspects about our use of Fay for our adverts. I have a friend who used to be a professional photographer, and one of his fields of expertise was glamour photography - Fay (not her real name) is one of the models he worked with. She is definitely not a CGI image, and is not related to me other than being a friend of my photographer friend Discussing adverts with him one day, it was commented within the conversation that it would be different to have a glamour model advertising a model railway shop - effectively "A model in a model shop".Other puns are also available, such as "Santa Fay" David arranged the photoshoots which took place at C&M, and I simply choose the pictures I wish to use from what was taken in the shop. We will never use a picture that is too revealing. The adverts are simply there to be eye-catching, stand out from the rest, and hopefully put a smile on peoples faces. And from the comments made, that would appear to be the case. No offence is intended to be caused, and if you do feel they are inappropriate, then I respectfully suggest that you see what the betting shop next door has for the large posters in it's window in full view of the street. Phil, Hopefully you will permit me to clear up a couple of aspects about our use of Fay for our adverts (and then this thread might return to topic) I have a friend who used to be a professional photographer, and one of his fields of expertise was glamour photography - Fay (not her real name) is one of the models he worked with. 6. C&M stands for Clare and Mike - Clare, my wife, bought the business, and it is up to me to make a return upon her investment. So strictly, the business is my wife's.
  7. That is an incredibly fine line to walk. There are many times when standing behind the counter you have to bite your lip, and curse silently to yourself.
  8. The hat is German, but is the one that belonged to my Grandfather when he worked as a Guard, based at Munchen Ost. And as for using Fay.... advertising is there to grab your attention. Safe to say that it works!
  9. And our website is finally back up and running. However we have had to alter the website address, so we can now be found at: https://candmmodels.co.uk
  10. I have vague recollections that one year for the Nurnberg show in February, Marklin built a Z gauge model of this very section of line upon which to show of their new models.

Glad to hear you sorted out your login problems. I fell into the same trap, but I am also now back in. Looking forward to wasting......, sorry, investing, many hours watching interesting happenings across the railway network.
  12. I believe Gilbert's crash was just around the corner from where Casartelli crashed in 1995. A horrible image to have etched in one's memory.
  13. A quick note to let you know that our website is currently down, and will probably be so for a few days. A transfer to another server, coupled with a new method of assembling the website is responsible for this. For anyone intending to visit in the medium term, our hours are as normal (Tuesday to Saturday, 10a.m. until 5p.m.) for the foreseeable future (no holiday closures)
  14. Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg have a Michael Portillo on their layout. If memory serves me correctly from the "Great Continental Railway Journeys", he painted it and placed it on one of the platforms himself.
  15. I would suggest this has already been a classic. Plenty of excellent performances from many riders you may not have expected them from. The obvious one being G
  16. Always wait at a level crossing until the barriers are fully raised.
  17. Latest expected dates for the arrival of the 87s at Hornby R3580 (BR Blue) 19th August 2018 R3582 (Swallow) 19th August 2018 R3656 (Virgin) 10th July 2019
  18. I am impressed with the announcement. For a few years, the range has been in contraction, with many items simply seeming to disappear. To see items returning to the market, without the need for a huge investment in new tooling is a canny move by Hornby. The TGVs are a most welcome return - imagine the British market without an HST being available, well that has been the state of the French market for a while. And as the TGVs influence spreads into Holland and Germany, so the choice of a Thalys and Duplex are now relevant to countries that they were not before. Again in the French market, the BB66000s and Mistral coaches fill current gaps in the market. This announcement opens the door for Hornby to get back into markets that were slipping from their grasp. Now where did I put that Hornby International Autumn/Winter 2018 order form....... [One satisfied model shop owner]
  19. The Lima brand name is now rarely used. Broadly speaking, Jouef covers 'HO' French, Electrotren covers Spanish 'HO' and Rivarossi covers everything else in 'HO', Arnold is the 'N' gauge range. I suspect there will be nothing earth shattering here-in. Their respective catalogues are a lot slimmer than they were a few years ago, and it will be great to see a number of previously released models make a comeback. Plenty of scope for producing items without incurring new tooling costs.
  20. Fleetwood Shawe's photographic collection was donated to the Armstrong Trust. https://www.arpt51a.com/
  21. The "problem" may simply be how many firms are in the supply chain. A reasonable sized German model shop may deal direct with the German manufacturer - two levels of profit (manufacturer and the German shop). For us on the UK, we usually have to buy our through the manufacturers-appointed UK importer - three levels of profit (manufacturer, importer and the shop).
