Jamie Hope you don't mind a small hijack but on topic Just back from 3 weeks in Chabanais After our regular trip to Cognac...to see a haberdashery shop rather than eau de vie I decided to come back the long way via Barbeziuex South of Angouleme we crossed the classic line at La Gare de Charmant where Ocealia have a grain silo and I spotted this locotracteur shunting cereal wagons -

I left politics because I could see if I did want to proceed further I would struggle against the central lists full of clone a candidate. The irony that the introduction of central lists was to get greater diversity and more pressing to avoid dodgy characters becoming MPs ...... Which was clearly a great success -

I made a similar comment on Facebook but Having worked in logistics for many years and had to handle imports from Asia all I can say is the team at Accurascale have managed this superbly its a complex enough task in normal times but in these current covid days what they have done in getting these models here is nothing short of extraordinary Well done to all and as someone with 2 blue beasts in that container thankyou -
Given a typical exhibition layout is a high value then formal export declarations will be needed The export is temporary so certain codes are used to ensure duty isn't paid either on the import into say France or on the return https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/uk-trade-tariff-customs-procedure-codes/exports-customs-procedure-codes Is the page to check the exact code 10 00 000 is std export 23 00 000 is tempoary export with return in unaltered state You need to keepmcopies of the export declarations in order to reclaim duty on import Likewise 40 00 000 is a std import Best bet is to find an agent used to managing exhibitions they wil charge a fee but these can be as low as 25 pounds

I best start thinking of how I explain two boxes turning up Might have to borrow a trick from work and neutralise the shipments (remove the paperwork) -

I've started to put this into practice Over this Year apart from the odd special I've purchased from antique shops and the like who have odd bargains For Christmas Used up Amazon vouchers obtained via a works reward scheme to purchase a old release P2. Now this was a slight non bargain as I model eastern region br blue but the wife says diesels are boring so I agreed lner derivatives if that means she is on board with buying me stuff So part two wife's Xmas present to me 6 steam era coaches all from a shop in Southampton that has a great 2nd hand selection Other present from in laws also was to have been models and I stressed don't buy new in the end they decided to gift me a magazine subscription and the money that saves me I can use for more second hand stock All the track for the layout is code 100 recovered from previous attempts I consider myself well off but just can't bring myself to spend eg 50£ + on a coach

That winter in Dorset a family friend was the manager of key markets supermarket in blandford forum. He had the only keys to the store and lived out towards shaftesbury No way could he get in by car so stepping two tennis rackets to his boots ( yes !!!) He set out having rung his son who lived in Blandford to let him know he was walking in they tried to stop him but he was insistent that the store had to opened He later recounted hevrealised he was an idiot when he stopped to try and get his bearings and walked towards some fence posts sticking out of the drifts only to realise that it was the top of telegraph poles he could see and he was probably only yards from the river. He was met a few miles out of by a combination of a jcb his son and the local constables who told him in no uncertain terms that his journey was not one he should have undertaken

Eastwood Town - A tribute to Gordon's modelling.
Foulounoux replied to gordon s's topic in Layout topics
My thoughts are with Gordon's family and friends To have been through the rollercoaster of emotions that ICU can bring and then have this news truly heart breaking. Gordon is an inspiration to many of us and I can only echo the sentiments of many others Colin -
I recall there were lots of objections to HS1. With the M20 so close to much of the route some were clearly ridiculous, the objectors being the other side of the M20 to the line. Once operating though the lack of impact compared to the motorway became apparent especially given the increase in M20 traffic.

The VSOE is worth it we did it 25 years ago this month going to Innsbruck and onto Vienna Our Honeymoon and at that time involved a Seacat crossing out of Folkestone ....not to recommended in a force 7/8 It was a world away from any other sleeper service and we were lucky to be offered a trip later that year to Paris as recompense for the crossing Sleeping on the VSOE we had the window open and woke up in Zurich it was surprisingly relaxing And it certainly wasn't high speed Colin
