  1. Oh great you've made me feel old As a Hertford boy I saw them introduced and as a 11/12 year old I even wrote a poem in praise of the 313's Sliding doors and silently gliding...something along those lines At least I still get to see them running down here but 42 years where did they go Colin
  2. Mike I think the other problem is that it is quite feasible to have a replacement bus service especially now the RN141 is dual for most of the route I could see a series of buses some dealing with local connections Limoges -St Junien St Junien - Roumazieres And a faster Limoges-Roumazieres-Chassenuil-La Rochefocauld-Angouleme service The loading on the route is that low that coaches maybe seen as the most effective option The precedent it would set though maybe too much for the region to accept Colin
  3. Removing this from the state of the U.K. Thread The Limoges Angouleme route remains oou and has now even made Le Monde The original Le Monde article is behind a registration but has been reported separately in a French Railway Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/1572451196322528/posts/2263573447210296/ Colin
  4. so as to keep this topic on the straight and narrow I have posted in the overseas section on the Charente observations
  5. As a Havant (& WATERLOOVILLE) resident we aspire to two tones of grey :-)
  6. So as someone who is trying to get back to layout building As rtr locos and rolling stock has clearly moved on thoughts turned to track BR blue period so I can be flexible as to BH or FB Code 100 OO is what I have , but small enough to not be an overriding influence Code 75 was an option A P4 kit has been constructed as one option but I'm not sure my skill level is good enough for a complete build Decision decisions well until this thread This release has probably made my mind up Just need to see it in the flesh When I start building this is now the likely option and a sample pack with membership would be a great option Membership . Sounds like a good investment Might have to consign some of my Lima stuff to the museum though And just like to say to the EMGS thank you!!
  7. I'm trying to recall how when they remodelled in the 80's they managed I was a regular traveller as was studying at Trowbridge but living in the New Forest I think it was by only closing half at a time If as this suggests it's a complete closure then it's going to require more creative solutions And I presume it's to renew track installed during that remodelling which was 35 yrs ago (roughly) Colin
  8. Chabanais end seems untouched so much so going over the level crossing at Exeduil it was difficult to determine what was the mainline and what was the previously disused 5yrs +. siding. Although with the N141 deviation at Roumazieres needing to impact the line it maybe a decision to leave it until the new rail over road bridge is installed Some local comedian has suggested the velo rail maybe looking to expand Colin
  9. Having just come back from our place in the Charente where 8 months on the local but important Limoges to Angouleme line remains closed because of track defects (rotten sleepers allowing gauge creep). Even delegations of local Mairies has failed to get action from SNCF. We may have our issues in the UK but in France it feels that unless it's a direct artery to Paris forget about investment Colin
  10. Actually higher than some D class 3.68m. Or. 11'11" in old money Class 313 3.58m So a PEP based unit would be 10cm. 4" lower
  11. would have loved tongue gone as we are exhibitors but my role doesn't warrant the travel etc :-( Most of our stuff is hidden, power packs, tilting mechanisms and hydraulic hoses all the boring stuff underneath .
  12. But post 243 in the othe thread in the last photo clearly shows it was a ramp I can't recall if steps at the top and bottom at that age was more concerned if we would get thevfrontbseatsvon the Cravens and hoping the driver had left the blinds up ;-)
  13. A dilemma because asthetically two look better But in terms of evoking the mood of the place which as a 10/11 year old always felt dark and gloomy a single skylight is it. But then we don't have 1/76th people who can express that moodiness Colin
  14. A shunt of ground signals I think is the collective noun
  15. A Joueff Playcraft TEE set very early 1970's my brother and I adored It. Sexy French loco with working Lights
  16. Having come across deer in the middle of an unlit road at 40-50mph and with full beam I can testify to the time it takes to react It was on a stretch of road I used to regularly drive at 60mph (speed limit) without a care. In fact the only reason I was driving at the lower speed was because it was 2am in the morning and a nice policeman had stopped me in Hungerford thinking I had very recently left the confines of the local hostelry. So I would probably have been in the same situation as the lady. Driving under the limit Seem something ahead and started to react then realised oh............ Expletive of choice
  17. I book first class on Southern when going by train from Havant to Gatwick. Simply because for a small premium I have somewhere to sit and put my bags when on a peak hour departure. As its only a section of a std coach it's certainly not for the normal first class privileges. Normally I fly from Heathrow as preferable to Chernobyl (LGW) and have a company driver as cheaper than mileage and parking
  18. i That first photo I think is the definitive answer to my original question Many thanks Colin
  19. pp That's caption referring to the Books Front Cover sorry should have cropped it out
  20. The attached photo is taken from the book that got me into model railways Ian Allan's Locospotters Annual 1971 It shows the grey blue South Wales Pullman but coach 5/6 appear to be in old livery Are they in std blue/grey or the original blue Pullman. Or are they interlopers
  21. Two weeks en Charente which means two weeks to redo 40m2 patio in granite setts. Other people have proper holidays lol

  23. BBC South reporting today on the issues with Poole High Street Reasonable reporting until they reported asking why the train doesn't cross until minutes after the barriers come down Network Rail response reported as because we have to allow time to ensure the crossing is clear I think what they meant Because we have to wait for the f.....g idiots to behave
  24. The similarities with the current suspension of the Limoges to Angouleme line albeit due to track issues are striking. Although maybe the local dignitaries could take a lesson from the French and march en masse to try and embarrass the rail company Mike you may know better than me if this had any impact via the media TF3 etc I saw reports on line in Charente liber and local Facebook sites Colin
