Powerful magnet in a motor grabbed soldering iron recently, could have been fatal to motor, just singed me parting them.

  3. Lovely sunny day, so I've started to clean the patio, uncover the patio furniture etc. Doubtless this will result in heavy rain tomorrow! A Happy Easter to you all, Dave
  4. According to the BBC the Severn Tunnel will close for six weeks from 12th September http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-35857118 Four tons of soot removed from the walls Dave
  5. That big yellow thing has appeared in the sky again. So I've taken the opportunity to give the grass the first cut of the season - I can't call it a lawn given the damage inflicted upon it by the dog Hope you all have a good day and a speedy recovery to all who are below par. Dave
  6. I am unusual amongst Welshmen - I loathe sport even Rugby! I don't read the sports pages in the newspaper and avoid sport on the box. Nice to see Debs back with us, hope we hear from Jock in the not too distant future. Cheers, Dave
  7. Why not try using cocktail sticks? Regards, Dave
  8. And I have clear memories of those in Cardiff - they stopped in the early 1970's when I was in my early twenties. http://www.cardiffians.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=533.0 Regards, Dave
  9. Jock, I have found the whole thread started by you regarding funerals most interesting. These days there is such a variety of options available for that last farewell and I am pleased that so many of you have selected something that fits your beliefs and your family's needs. The Verdi Requiem is very much to my taste, but my favourite is the one by Faure, particularly "In Paradisum". If you are not familiar with it then it's well worth exploring. Best wishes as always, Dave
  10. All these posts about funerals have been most interesting. I once read in a novel by IIRC Morris West that a "Funeral was man's oldest theatre". I will now shock you all - as a practising Catholic nothing less than a Requiem Mass will do - I've told the family anything less will result in me returning to haunt them! However I am greatly impressed that those of you without religious convictions have thought of appropriate ways to celebrate your lives. On a happier note there's a big bright yellow thing in the sky above the southern part of the Principality, does anybody know what it is please? Cheers, Dave
  11. Loved the Vauxhall Victor station wagon in the foreground. One of dad's friends had one and it was two tone as well! As a lad I thought they were the Muts Nuts  Please do keep the photos coming Phil, Regards, Dave
  12. Ladies and Gentlemen, For your further edification here is a photo of the Clarks Pie presented to me by Mr Happy Hippo who was, I am pleased to say, free of any mud from his pit hollow I have disposed of the pie in the approved manner. Had a good day mainly operating Minster but it was great to meet Richard HH, Mike the stationmaster, Rob NHY581 and several other RMWebbers. Having been on my feet all day I admit to being cream-crackered. Best wishes to all, particularly those under the weather, Dave
  13. Mike, Look forward to meeting you tomorrow, Regards, Dave
  14. We had a TV for The Coronation - so there! When I see Peppa Pig with my granddaughter why do I think of bacon sandwiches? When ITV started up in South Wales in 1958 two of my favourite children's programmes were Casey Jones featuring a railroad and Popeye. Best wishes to you all, especially Jock - hope you feel better soon, Dave
  15. Now that's a blast from the past! Thursdays on BBC TV? Regards, Dave
  16. And you will find me operating Minster, Please do say hello - this applies to you all, even HH as long as no mud from his hollow is left about! :) :) Dave
  17. Mick, Have you somehow managed to switch to a non UK keyboard layout in the operating system? Regards, Dave
  18. Ed, Like John I don't know what to say but will remember you and your family in my prayers. Many ERs will sympathise you, please don't hesitate to share your feelings with us if that gives you help and relief. Dave
  19. Just had an interesting phone call. Caller Id showed a number starting 39 so it's international. I accept the call and immediately kill it. Phone goes again within a minute from the same number. I answer the call quite brusquely asking who is calling. An oriental voice says his name is Perkins and he is a senior investigator with the Metropolitan Police. My reaction was "Oh Yes?" before I put the phone down. Be aware of this one folks! From a soggy capital city of the Principality, Dave
  20. IIRC it was 1962 - had to have the injection and was off school for a few days with a reaction to it. Dave Edit to add http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-18365385
  21. Lunch at 12:30, turkey eaten, gateau eaten, Tintern cheese enjoyed, Drambuie x 2 consumed, dishwasher doing it's thing and dog walked. Time for a brief doze before tea! Happy Yuletide, Dave
  22. Simon, Please excuse my ignorance but what are "Pigs in Blankets"? Best wishes, Dave
