  1. Never tried to read that book. One book I could never get past the first thirty pages was Catch 22 - couldn't make head or tail of it even after three separate attempts over the years, Regards, Dave
  2. Andy, It must be touching to receive such heartfelt gifts from pupils. Being an old f@rt I still have pleasant memories of Junior School and some of the teachers I met. On the other hand I would spit in the eye of some of the teachers from Grammar School if the opportunity were to arise. Treasure these memories always - they will warm the cockles of your heart in years to come, Happy Anniversary to you and Sarah, From a sentimental Welshman, Dave
  3. Rob, A Grange and a Manor together - I've gone weak at the knees! Add a 43xx and a Dukedog and you've got my four favourite GWR tender locos, Regards, Dave
  4. Just been on the Kernow website for the first time in a little while. Sorry but I don't like the redesigned website - the pictures are so small as to be virtually useless! A significant amount of screen real estate is also wasted by putting the items in three columns rather than 4 or 5. Maybe it's designed for tablets or something small. Such a disappointment compared to their previous site, Dave
  5. Passed by test in 1977 in an Opel Kadet which were very popular at that time. My first company car was a Cavalier 1.8GL which I really liked. Dave
  6. Chaps, I remember most of these elephant jokes from school - I left school in 1965   Dave
  7. God Bless you Jock, If only there were more people in the world like you ............................ Dave
  8. Thanks for the photos, it's nice to see an operation from start of finish. Regards, Dave
  9. Mike, It all goes back to the first Severn Crossing which opened about 1966. There were tolls both ways (2/6 IIRC) which were in a row across both carriageways on the English side. This meant that if there were queues leaving Wales they ended up queuing on the bridge. Now the bridge is of box girder construction and problems started to arise so they removed the toll booths leaving Wales and doubled the charge on the other way thus removing the queues. When the second crossing as built the booths are on the Welsh side but at least a mile from the end of the bridge. Been to Cardiff Castle to watch the Jousting - came back with 465 photos which after aggressive editing and the addition of a soundtrack will be shown in local Camera Clubs! Cheers, Dave
  10. Mike, There's no toll leaving Wales, just coming in :) Dave
  11. Wouldn't fancy paying the leccy bill for that lot! Cheers, Dave
  12. And a Merry Christmas to you! :) Dave
  13. Ian, If IIRC you have a Nikon. Why not try Nikon Capture which is now free and can be used to resize images http://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/products/162/Capture_NX-D.html Regards, Dave

  17. Mike, TBH I forgot to look! I viewed the coaches side on - it was busy at the stand as you might imagine. If they haven't the gong on mine will soon be painted, Regards, Dave
  18. Speaking to Lord & Butler their guess is towards the end of the year. Regards, Dave
  19. Saw painted samples of the B & C and Maroon lined autocoaches on the Bachmann stand at the Bristol Show yesterday. They look very good indeed. Dave
  20. Just to expand your point about fraud Tony ensuring staff take two weeks together with no contact with the office makes a "teeming and lading" fraud harder to hide. Certainly when I worked in a small bank the regulator expected management to enforce this rule. When my father was in the Prison Service (retired in the 80s) his leave was allocated by management and moved forward 6? weeks each summer; nothing stopped you changing with somebody else - after we had grown up when his summer leave fell in the school holidays there would be a queue of fellow officers wanting to exchange leave with him so he and mum used to have their main holiday in early June many years. Regards, Dave
  21. Commiserations but a good and wise decision on your part, Been there, done that ..... Regards, Dave
  22. Well I'm a woolly mammoth - not surprising really! Off for a long lunch with former colleague - we meet at a good restaurant every three months, have an excellent lunch with copious amounts of alcohol! Will probably have a good doze later, Regards, Dave
  23. Plenty of vans have a sign proclaiming "No Tools left in this vehicle overnight". Today I followed a Peters Pie van which had a sign stating "No pies left in this van overnight". I am sure you will all find that information useful, Regards from a very sunny capital city of the Principality, Dave
  24. We've all followed vans and lorries with that sign "Well driven?" followed by a phone number. Saw a white van today where the phone number was "0800 GETALIFE"- amused me Best wishes to you all especially those of you under the weather - what is sometimes referred to in Wales as "Bard in bed with a shawl on" Dave
  25. SWMBO and I took our granddaughter to Margam Park today, of course the sun only came out towards the end of our visit. The did have a railway albeit Diesel powered - the curves are it are very trainset-like. with reversing loops at either end of the line Regards, Dave
