Hi RichardIt's good to have a few members that worked on the layout get in touch! We want to be sympathetic to the layout whilst bringing into the Diesel era! Hopefully if and when we're on the circuit! ( we have had a few offers already!) you'll make yourself know when your standing in front watching the trains go by!

I think in tidying and freshening the embankment we do want to present it slightly differently and give the impression of a railway 25 years on!

Hey Tony- good to hear from you! I think the general consensus is we don't want to disturb the rail! I think we can live with the superb track work as is! We want however to give the layout an 80's feel with the scenics! More overgrown, more run down! Then with DCC sound and prototypical stock formations, we can hopefully bring new life to a wonderful watching the trains go by layout! You'll have to come and guest operate!

As 1 of the syndicate of 4 - better bring something to the table (or layout!) I get the fun jobs - I'm taking each of the scenic boards and overhaulling them one by one! This include a repaint of all exteriors and underboard, the re labbelling of the track feed and board indication along with the fun bit! Wiping away the years of dust that has gathered and then adding about 25 years worth of new growth, new trees and sapplings as well as adding new lineside equipment and also adding about 25 years worth of decay to various buildings and bridges. So my entry 1 When aquired the layout was in pretty good condition for saying it had been in store for some time! (The electrical side of the team may beg to differ!) The main problems on the first board being that the ground cover had gotten rather dusty and dull, I know that subdued colours work well but this was almost monochrome. Also the embankment was in steam guise -i.e. empty! Now we needed to bring it into the eighties when cuttings were overgrown, new trees had taken route and sapplings were sprouting forth. To this end the first thing to do was simply give the layout a hair cut to thin out the grass and give a basis to the next stage of adding texture and different summer hues. Oh and the time was taken to catch 25109 entering Catesby tunnel with a rake of Presflo's Regards Dave

Thanks everyone for the kind words! The next 2 or 3 months should see a lot more detail work and a small 2 foot extension to the repair shed (I'm going to work with our local DCC wizzard Simon H -(Mscorn) to look at the possibility of a working overhead crane and then go to town on the interior) Then Tony Wright is coming up to photograph it, I'll scribble some words and then it should hit the magazine! Ok so its now a week since the exhibition but I've only just got around to updating this with some pics! The first issue I almost had was that some months earlier I'd changed the car!! I'd gone from a Laguna Estate to a Vectra Hatch so surely I'd need to hire a van for all exhibitions from this point on!........................ Nope!!! Infact the Vectra has a better load space than the Laguna!! Go Figure! The weekend went well I think- if the feedback from those there and reading compliments on the net is anything to go by (thankfully Simon was on hand when we had a dead short on the middle of Saturday afternoon - not really a surprise given the heat in the room!!) I did manage to grab these pics on Sunday, hope you enjoy! The same locos this time from inside the shed. The local haulier obviously not in a rush to return the pallets parks up out of the way. Awaiting the cutters torch. Deep in discussion or simply shirking work?? Under an increasingly threatening sky 20144 readies that nights works rake! No High-Vis jacket? Hope the powers that be don't see this! Hi Guys Thanks for the positive comments I always work from photos and take as much weathering off as I put on! Nick- The 50 isn't mine, mores the pity!! It's a fellow exhibitors I just got my hands in it!!! But yes I would replace the louvres, cab windows and grill!!! I know Simon speaks with Brian at Shawplan so this might get retrospectively done!!! I'm in the middle of correcting a Hornby grid with extreme etchings but a bit aprehensive about spraying the loco as the grills are so fine!!! I'll get this weekends out the way and then post the progress as a blog along with a couple of other projects including the sound and light 08!!! Regards Dave -

Hi All Whilst getting ready for Rainhill this coming weekend I got my hands on a couple of fellow members locos to Mucky up a bit!! So first up and although slightly out of era and obviously working down from Scotland to collect Thorne Yards Ploughs is Andys 26037 Secondly and in The Yard for no other reason than it sounds fantastic!!
