  1. It is, but as a complete novice the help and info I received was extremely useful and at the end of the day it all boils down to fitting a battery and r/c receiver, it's not that hard, yeah it might need a bit of messing with but having seen a mate of mine fit his 0-16.5 build stuff with some, having zero experience, it seemed the obvious way to go for me.
  2. I'm going down the 'dead rail' route for something I'm messing with at the moment, not progress as yet bar a few bits bought, they came from here though and I don't think overly expensive. http://www.micronradiocontrol.co.uk/rc_model_rail.html
  3. This one? I think the old Triang one captures the looks of the EM2 far better than the more recent Heljan one, I'd avoided those till recently but picked up a cheapish one, still toying with the idea of a detailed Triang body on the Heljan chassis, or even Triang cabs grafted into the Heljan one, dunno yet time will tell! http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/100995-em2-class-77-bogie-frames/?p=1949831
  4. I got the Microsoft critical alert page, now in bother with the Mrs as she thinks I've been looking at pages that I shouldn't....... Oh well, nowt new there, I'm always in the doghouse for sommat! Joking apart, nice work to get it sorted so swiftly...….
  5. Use self adhesive magnetic strip rather than wire, easier to install and magnet to magnet tends to work better and leads to less wandering, my old exhibition layout was over three boards and crossed tram tracks....worked ok.
  6. Richmond St A-U-L? click on 'birds eye' https://www.bing.com/maps?q=richmond+street+ashton+under+lyne&FORM=HDRSC4
  7. I think you're right Ashton Moss sidings. Position and style of gantry look the same.
  8. I have built a test section of 16mm simulated girder rail to represent 4ft gauge Bradford trams, I have no idea as to what gauge you would call it, OO4-16? It's certainly not P4-16 as the groove is 0.7mm as opposed to the scale 0.45mm. When you start doing strange gauges it all gets fairly complicated!
  9. Mourinho won two trophies in his first season, best ever by a new United manager, his win rate is slightly less than Sir Alex Fergusons Thanks? I really don't think the Liverpool result had much bearing on it in reality, mind you he did still manage to win 2 more trophies than Klopp in a shorter time frame. What they got relegated and came straight back up and went onto become the most successful club in the country, I'll live with that, Even in Div2 United were still the biggest draw in English football, best gates in the country whilst in the second tier, any other club ever do that? See above, see the number of posts on here about it.....United sell newspapers, tv, everything, you may not like it but it's fact. Anyway my thoughts......Mourinho to me was always going to be slightly the wrong fit, but I and plenty of others would take it if we were winning stuff, he did, we did, completed the full set of trophies with the Europa league so for that I'll always be thankful. However this was always likely to happen, Mourinho is not the only one at fault as the blame starts at a far higher level than him, I've been on a self imposed ban since 2005, when the Glazers took over, hard to do as someone who has probably seen United in more countries than many have seen their teams at away grounds.... I said not a penny to the Glazers and I meant it. The ultimate cause of United's problem is their owners and till they go it's highly unlikely that United will fulfil their potential, I'll live with that, I watched them when they were crap before, even in Div2, we've no god given right to win stuff and of course football is cyclical, I would say though I do think reports of the death of MUFC might be a touch over estimated, just the sheer amount of money they make means it unlikely. However does anyone seriously think they'd do a Leeds, they'd be bought within hours. So Mourinho's gone, had to happen, happy? No not really, but overall the style of football was dire and he really had to go.... I only look in here occasionally now as I think my partisan support probably ruffles a few feathers, but then again I'll always say it as I see it.
  10. Careful with IPA on resin bits, if left too long can begin to attack the resin and soften it a bit, I found out the hard way!
  11. Never bothered with lights to be honest so can't really comment on that sorry! My preferred method now is to use a 3v battery coupled to a Nigel Lawton 12v mini motor, that gives a reasonable speed, but I have got straight Fallers running on 1.5v batteries quite nicely in the past. I'd guess at Old Elms Road on the layout? I know the guy involved with that one, he's an admin on my FB Faller Car System group!
  12. I'd be tempted to try the FCS vehicle on a 1.5v battery, simple to do, remove the big rechargeable Faller battery, solder in a 1.5v battery holder either N or AAA and try that for speed, I did that with a couple and it worked nicely, also means you just pop in a re charged battery rather than re charging the vehicle which is handy if you're doing exhibition work....no down time. You can easily revert to std should you want to at a later stage.
  13. Several have, off the top of my head I can think of three where there was little use of Faller parts but along the same idea, however it's fairly labour intensive making the most vital part which is the front steering arm, personally I build my own into the vehicle required using lots of non Faller parts but often using the Faller steering arm, it's quite a lot cheaper to do it that way than carving up a Faller vehicle, you can also get better (slower) speeds with the right motor battery combination For example the bus in this video is a resin kit, its chassis was modded to take a FCS 163002 steering arm this was fitted with extended pins to widen the track, the motor is a Nigel Lawton 12v rated mini motor, 10mm dia, which is a direct fit into a Faller 163501 gearbox, the other bits need are an on/off switch and a changeover/normally closed reed switch, hook all those up into a simple circuit with a half AA 3v battery and you have a running vehicle that's slower than any FCS as bought and does exactly the same thing. The wheels are non Faller copies which are available. I'd guess the bits to do this are around £40, the steering arms are around a tenner. It's possible to build other things too with slightly different non Faller steering see the test of the Scammell Scarab vid that uses pretty much the same ideas and parts with a home brewed steering arm.
  14. Amongst others, Rhododendron, dwarf varieties such as Impeditum, general rule if it is a very small leafed variety it'll be pretty dwarf in habit, Euonymus fortune Emerald n' Gold, Emerald Gaiety, Blondy are smallish shrubs that'll withstand a good clipping. Japanese Azaleas (again Rhododendron family) will get to around 3ft height and spread but slowly. You may get away with some of the smaller growing Hebes such as Green Globe and James Stirling, again with Hebe general rule, biggish leaf, biggish grower. Gaultheria procumbens is a reddish foliage low growing evergreen groundcover. Some grasses and sedges might work such as Carex Evergold and Ophiopogon Nigerescens. Pieris Little Heath and Little Heath variegate are both small compact growers with white flowers and coloured new leaf growth. Berberis Buxifolia Nana is a small evergreen shub with orange/yellow flowers April/May and along the same lines Berberis Thunbergii Atropupurea Nana and Bagatelle are both deciduous forms but with a deep wine red foliage for contrast, they'd work well near something with a yellow or variegated foliage, plenty more if you need them!
  15. As per other posts, there are active tram modelling places around, just not here, to suggest that there isn't is wrong. However is there enough interest to do an RTR model etc? I quite literally have no idea but probably not, I think that ship sailed with the non appearance of the proposed Bachmann trams some years back. However never say never as more and more obscure stuff gets produced it is still possible. I hope the Fleetline proves successful for Rapido, I'll probably end up with one even though it's of little use to me for my modelling, but I like carving stuff up so it'll probably end up 'Fallerised with r/c for speed, I think we need to wean them off this strange Midlands stuff and do something more universal though I like the sound of different bodies to utilise the parts though.... I'll look forward to a decent PD2/GVG6 with say an Orion body to hack into something decent that moves.... (very subtle hint there!)
  16. Yeah.... never see any ever Veteran of BRM, Warners Peterborough and Doncaster shows amongst many others....http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/172-the-grime-street-blog/ or just the highlights.... Its replacement is in build.... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/122452-sheffield-grimeside/
  17. Reddish could be very cosmopolitan on the right day...DMU, EMU, DC Electric, Diesel,Shunters etc, chuck in an odd Blue Pullman in their day too.... https://www.flickr.com/photos/95430950@N07/25265901307/in/photolist-EuEmd4
  18. Trams on that section finished around 1931, but I'd hazard a guess that it remained in situ for a good while the SHMD were quite well known for running stuff occasionally on in theory closed sections.
  19. I'm just getting my arm twisted as I have a bit of an idea with FCS stuff! I'd like to see it working again but it's going to involve a lot of work.
  20. I'm sure many remember Tony Chlads working trolleybus layout from the 90s, it is still around and today it was present at the MBF AGM in Doncaster, storage has not been kind to it and it will need a lot of work if it is to return to a fully running condition. There are parts that can only be fixed by replacement rather than repair. I did however manage to get one of my vehicles running for a short time and a video is below, the 'rolling stock' still survives so it is possible that it may yet appear in a running form again, but don't hold your breath as to when! I thought it worth the post as it is a fairly often mentioned layout that fortunately hasn't ended up as landfill. Apologies for the dodgy video quality etc.
  21. Austrian producer of trams, motor bogies, OBB stuff.... https://shop.ferro-train.com/HallingShop/
  22. News filtering out that Lepold Halling might be experiencing a touch of difficulty. https://www.akv.at/insolvenz/1261208/leopold-halling-gesellschaft-m-b-h-.php
  23. These? http://www.gaugemaster.com/item_details.asp?code=FA120479&style=main&strType=&Mcode=Faller+120479
  24. Stuff still happening but very slowly, I'll update properly in the future but there's been a few changes to the overall idea since first posts.... This is a new bit, might explain why progress is slow a bit!
