  1. One of the easiest ways to slow a Faller type vehicle down is to use a different motor, the 12v rated Nigel Lawton mini motor(circa £6.50) is a direct fit into a Faller 163501 motor mount, that comes with the gear wheel but not the worm, but they are available elsewhere, coupled with a 3/3.7v supply that gives a reasonable speed, adding RC to a Trolleybus fitted with this set up is something I'm currently messing with.... But for an idea this is an EFE Rotherham Renown fitted with such. The Faller parts used are motor mount and gears an the kingpins, front axle is a scratch apart from those, it needs to be wider than std Faller items. Wheels and skid are pattern parts, battery is a rechargeable CR2 fitted so it can be removed from the underside for easy re charging. Reed switch and on off switch complete circuit. As I say adding speed RC control to this sort of set up is something I'm working on with a Glasgow version of the trolleybus shown in op.

  5. I'll put it as bluntly as I can on here.... They can stick their SL as far up their backsides that I hope it emerges from their collective foreheads.... After 40 plus years of following Utd visiting some of the erm posteriors of Europe, getting locked up and deported from Turkey for having a British passport, to ambling down the truck ramp in Hull after a very enjoyable week in Rotterdam... I've been teargassed, baton charged and treated with disdain and indifference from Volgograd to Turin by the collective police forces of Europe, but if this goes ahead I'm done with it all.... Said not a penny in 2005 and have remained true to that since the parasitic Glazer family took over (note they do not fit glass...)...., tried FCUtd but it's not for me...No TV network covering this will get a bean from me as fr going...you're having a laugh. It'll be even easier this time... Yours possibly former Red Devil formerly LMTB K stand, Season ticket holder G stand and West lower, Old Trafford, M16 0RA

  12. Unless there is something pushing down on the gear wheels they do tend to disengage, I built one of the very early red link ones and found this to be the case then.
  13. That's Pete Whiteley's layout, as far as I know it doesn't have a name other than Pete Whitley's layout.... Pete is heavily involved at Crich and manages to get some of the more difficult electrical bits to operate as they were intended to....explains how he can do illuminated 4mm stuff too, lots of leds and lots of soldering, I may be wrong on this but I think he had some involvement with the 7mm illuminated car on Chesfield shown earlier.
  14. Facebook....2 groups Tramway Modelling and Model Tramways.
  15. Ok, my 2p worth, there are a good few layouts out there, most won't feature on here as the most active tram modelling online resources are on FB. Personally whilst I built a reasonably successful tram layout , I don't consider my myself as purely a tram modeller.... hence my presence here. Regarding the Festival of model tramways, that is a whole different game. The festival was a privately run show, it wasn't a TLRS show, I became somewhat disenchanted at exhibiting there after doing quite a few....no expenses were paid and to a London show would cost me at least 2-300 quid all in...and that's not even taking time off as a self employed person into account....On my last visit to a 'London' festival having carted one of the bigger displays the longest distance I was pointed to the NCP car park round the back after unloading whilst some more local exhibitors managed to park for free.....yeah I wasn't happy. Festival (north) to a degree had already been usurped by a show at Rigby Rd Blackpool and Covid 19 notwithstanding will most likely continue....However I doubt there will be a 'national' show again as who will organise it? The TLRS are nominally the tram modelling society but they won't unless there are changes, and a number of more active exhibitors are no longer members. Sorry for the long boring answers....as to are tram layouts in demand for exhibition (or were pre this year) yes definitely, I already have a good few invites for Grime Sts successor on the 'when you're ready' basis.....motivation is the issue!
  16. That's Bob Wardle's Chesfield tramways.....Show would have been at Bob Heathcote's central methodist church in middle of Sheffield, Bob (H) was minister there and also founder/memb sec/chairman etc of Model Bus Federation, so ran a smallish show there.
  17. Here's anther 'old layout' I was involved with a little bit. County End built by a friend of mine, I helped with the track a bit, originally set in Oldham, now the property of the Yorks area MBF, shown here with a couple of 'Yorks area' vehicles!
  18. Built by Andy Ross....some info here...
  19. Glasgow was 4 ft 7 3/4 to allow std gauge wagons to run on their flanges in the groove. Huddersfield also adopted the same gauge with a view to moving coal.
  20. If you want a Birmingham car, then the old 1/72 Keil Kraft kit might be an option, normally go for under a tenner on ebay whilst not 4mm, not far off, easily motorised too. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=keil+kraft+tram&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=0&LH_Sold=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=HD74AR&_sargn=-1%26saslc%3D1&_salic=3&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_ipg=200&LH_Complete=1&_fosrp=1
  21. Oh, and by the way, the Corgi traditional trams are nearer S scale than 4mm.
