  1. The bottom entrance to the goods yard has finally had some weathering applied, loads more to do but it's nice to get rid of the bland colour of the ballast and plywood worktops.

  2. Thanks for the advice Ken, I always use to have Antex irons, but the last one lasted not even two years and after some research found out they are now made in China rather than in the UK.

And another thanks goes to you, as it was interesting threads like yours that finally helped get my enthusiasm ( mojo ) back.

    Cheers,

  3. Morning Ken,

Have you got the new solder station fired up yet? Just wondered what you thought of it, as I intend to buy an Esra this time.

I miss loco building and would like to do at least one build over the winter, I have a few little boxes gathering dust in the cupboard, but the layout build has taken president of late.

    Keep up the good work,

    Martyn.

  4. Hi Fabrice,

I think with the two transversers it can keep it interesting, the lower siding could be made longer into a headshunt so you could set back some wagons into another siding ( or two if you used a tandem turnout ). Tandem as in 3 way point ( gives it more interest ).

    All the best,

    Martyn.

  5. I know that feeling - which is why I’ve still not collected it 3 months after he told me it was ready to pick up!

It might be a good idea to collect it soon, as Phil is closing down Intentio. Such a shame as the quality of his kits are second to none in my opinion.

    Martyn.

  6. Any progress with this? I've had one of these ready to collect for ages but couldn't get to Telford.

No I haven't made a start on the box yet, I just needed to see the size of the base and where best to site it. It's in the to do pile, but it's far from the top I'm afraid.

  7. Hi Guys,

Not a lot to show of late, I am just toying with some greenery or should I say parched wild grass, and weathering of some of the trackwork.

And a big thank you goes to Simond of this parish, I had an electrical shorting problem which I could not solve for over two weeks ( very frustrating), but as the saying goes two heads are better than one, and we sorted it in the end, and yes it was my fault in the first place !

I really must update my lighting, the quality of the photos is a bit grainy to say the least.

  8. Evening Simon,

Regarding concrete, have you tried " kiln sand "? Much finer than the normal building sand, and then there's my latest acquisition I brought this aerosol on impulse from the local B&Q, I have not got around to trying it yet, but the tin lid looks good....

  9. Would it be possible/appropriate to let others know what or where 'the other channel' actually is. I would like to follow Paul's progress but am struggling to find out where it has moved.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  10. Martyn,

The weathering etc is top notch, really impressed.  What chairs have you used?

    Thanks

    Ernie

    Hi Ernie,

They are C&L chairs, 2 bolt GWR pattern, Beeding cement works I know the place well. I used to play around the area as a young lad and later use to drive their trucks.

    Martyn.

  11. I can remember as a lad looking at the wagons in the Sidings at Beeding Cement Works. Must have been a Sunday as nothing was happening. And I do remember the all pervading smell of warm creosote......,,

If you have a steady hand you can get good results with an airbrush, especially using acrylic paints, makes the job a lot easier. I paint my timbers first, but I build my track using timber ply sleepers, I use just good old Halfords satin black for timbers on the main lines and if I want to fade them down for the sidings I rub some thinners on them until they go a silver colour. See below.

  12. Is the point rodding opperational Martyn, am assuming yes cause I know what your like for detail :)

    Either way,  Love it.

    Morning John,

I'm afraid not, life is too short, although I remember a 4mm layout at an exhibition some years ago with working point rodding and even the facing point locks operated as well, unreal!!

    All the best,

    Martyn.

  13. A big thank you to Phil at Intentio, I thought I'd do a dry run of the signal box kit I brought from him at Telford, just so I could see where to site it on the layout. I have built a few mdf kits before, but none come close to this kit, so crisp and it all ( so far ) fits together so well, brilliant.
