  1. They look rather smart in crimson and cream (even if someone had the paint diagram upside down!) 144011 at Haworth by West Yorkshire Bus Spotter, on Flickr Steven B
  2. HST power cars were certainly classes as locos by 1987 as you'd find them in the loco diagram book: http://www.barrowmoremrg.co.uk/BRBDocuments/Locos/Book_No_100_EK_N2_web.pdf The HST Mk3 trailers were to be found in the diesel-electric multiple-unit diagram book. This technically implies that they're not loco-hauled coaches, but they are hauled by a loco... Steven B
  3. Bachmann did something similar with the second run of class 90s - most of the liveries were a copy and paste of the first batch but with running numbers changed. Hence we've seen 90005 Financial Times and 90006 High Sheriff, both in Intercity Swallow rather than a release in Intercity Mainline livery. At least they're now upping the number of models per release which has to be better than everything selling out on pre-order.
  4. I'd much rather ride a Pacer on a preserved railway than an HST, for much the same reason I'd prefer a class 2 or 3 than an A4 on the same line - one's much more in keeping, the other's being kept on a tight leash and really needs to be out on the main line with a 60+mph speed limit. I'm quite happy that there are folk who don't want to ride on a preserved Pacer - means more chance of me getting a window seat! Steven B.
  5. I've used the ESU 21MTC - NEXT18 adaptor without any problems. ESU's a reliable make, and Coastal DCC are a great shop so I suspect you won't have any problems with the Next18 to Plux12 adaptor.. You should have control over sound, drive, F0 and the green & violet Aux1 & Aux2. The Next 18 has a couple of extra outputs that aren't supported on the Plux12. SB.
  6. It might take some time to get your head around JMRI, but it's infinitely better than tinkering with CVs manually. Steven B
  7. if you're doing the TransPennine version of Provincial then you'll also need a matching BG: 47475 by Dave Jolly, on Flickr Mk2 FK and BG as a twin pack with the matching TSO being available on their own might work. Steven B
  8. Would be nice wouldn't it! Bachmann have made the Mk2a BFK in OO in Regional Railways - shame they've not matched it in N (yet!?). No Regional Railways BSO though. It's frustrating for anyone wanting to replicate actual formations - I've found very few photos with Regional Railways Mk2a TSO that don't have a matching brake vehicle. I have to squint at my rake as it runs with Regional Mk1 BSK. Steven B
  9. That shouldn't stop it being made - it'd be perfect for all the models that never leave the display case! SB.
  10. I think it's called progress - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't... SB.
  11. My wallet breaths a sigh of relief! It's a bit sad that there's still no Mk2a BSO in Regional Railways (did such a thing exist or were they all Mk2b/c), ditto no re-run of Mk2a TSO in blue/grey (both missing from the last re-run on Mk2a). A nice spread of models - I had hoped for a WYPTE class 158. It's a shame the Regional Railways 158 is a copy and paste of the livery on 371-850 - one with "Express" branding would have been more interesting. Perhaps Spring 2023 will bring both along with some more class 47 liveries? Along with new liveries on the likes of the class 37 and 90. Surely the 37 has to be next for a Next18 upgrade? SB
  12. Several locations had small sheds for the stabling of banking loco's - Ledbury and Box are two examples (although Ledbury was more of a covered coaling stage!). Something similar for a Minories based layout could work - the first train of the day would need a loco stabled overnight to power the return service or help release the train loco. Steven B.
  13. I think you need to be registered and logged into the Dapol Digest site. Either of the buffer fitted, Intercity liveries options please! SB
  14. There are some good photos on Flickr, including this trio showing van traffic:
  15. Nice weathering on the class 31: Class 31/4 31400 - Kirkham & Wesham. by Martyn Hilbert, on Flickr SB
  16. Any insight into the other "missing" Farish Models? 2016-17: 377-207A 8 Plank Wagon with Coke Rails BR Grey 377-803 FNA Nuclear Flask Wagon DRS 2018: 371-703 Class 350 4 Car EMU 350407 TransPennine Express 371-725 Class 450 4 Car EMU 450073 South West Trains 372-260 Class 47 No: 47814 Totnes Castle Virgin 372-261DS Class 47 No: 47727 Rebecca Colas 2019: Sound class 101 ReS Class 47 J39 Fairburn Tank class 14 HEA SB
  17. Is this a common problem with the MN180 on all models, or something specific to the Revolution Class 128? Steven B
  18. The same wagon, (Chaddy Goods on Flickr) They were still in use in 1999, with EWS Class 56 for haulage: https://flic.kr/p/MhYWso Standard Wagon came up with some interesting stuff in the 1980s. My favourite (apart from the self-discharge train) was the in-line tipper: Prototype Standard Wagon 78T In-Line PTA Tipper REDA28100 at Mountsorrel 17 Sep 1987 by Dave Bower, on Flickr SB
  19. It's unlikely to be a genuine class 128 - the last one was scraped in 1991. The Leyland Albion engine was shared with Class 114 Derby Heavyweights (5 motor cars preserved) Class 115 Derby Suburban Quads (8 motor cars preserved) Class 123 Swindon Inter-City (non preserved) Class 124 Swindon Inter-City (non preserved) Steven B.
  20. KR aren't alone in producing fictional liveries. Hornby and Hattons have applied non-prototypical liveries to their four and six wheel coaches. Rapido Trains have done the same with their APT, Mink wagons. Rails with Dapol's help are putting all sorts of liveries on vans and opens. Peco have put fictional or generic liveries on many of their 009 models. In N Gauge Rapido have done an RTC class 28 whilst 30 years ago Farish were using the same body shells under GWR, LNER, LMS, SR, S&D and Caledonian liveries. I don't recall any of them getting the same level of stick that KR do for their fictional liveries. SB
  21. S Curves are completely un-prototypical and should be avoided at all costs.... (Bob Avery on Flickr) SB.
  22. Model shops are now receiving their orders - My two-tone blue one arrived from The Model Centre (TMC) this morning. (unless they collected from from Revolution at the GETS last weekend!)
