  1. Mid Wales Railway - Moat Lane down to Three Cocks - stunning scenery. The bit beyond to Newport isn't bad either!
  2. I'm not from Portishead, but here are the docks and abandoned rails in 1980!
  3. Desborough North Summit, closed and fired. 1981. Haltwhistle 1987. Consall 2017.
  4. I sprayed the sides after ballasting. Masked using ordinary masking tape. The overspray onto the ballast (under the rail) mimics the rust/dirt that falls onto the ballast.
  5. The sheer scale of the place - this photo of mine 1/1/1976.
  6. Brings back happy memories, I visited the line in 1971, just after it closed. Away from the crowds at the castle, I had the whole place to myself.
  7. Looking at your wife and seeing her mum

  12. Hmmm, 27 downloads for my excel sheet and only one thank you. Here is another comparison chart. Can't remember the source.

Its when the howling starts that you should be worried....

Is it the dog, or is it the owner.

@truffy The Wurzels have an alternative method which uses tools easier to obtain in this country.

The Wurzles even make the Barron Knights sound sensible!. though after that lot, its no wonder that Punk seemed a good idea...

  14. This comparison chart 'might' be useful? Can't remember the source. Colour Humbrol-Revell.xls
  15. Not demolished, I was told. The bridge was listed - because it had a cross roads on it. It was buried - it's supposed to be under the roundabout. From Bath you would have gone straight on at the cross roads - there were traffic lights on it. There was indeed a climb up to the bridge. The parapet was always getting demolished by lorries! The line was closed in 1968 and was lifted at that point by about 1970.
  16. Have you noticed on the Amazon advert 'Pompey destroyed in 79AD', the Alexa moves itself as the camera focuses in. Creepy or what!

I don't think an ordinary Roman, citizen or slave, would know anything about the Anno Domini dating system (Popularised by the Venerable Bede in the 7th/8th century).

Year dating in Rome around then was by reference to  the current Caesar and the Consuls for the year. So if the poor bu@@er had his wits about him, he might have blurted, in Latin, something like "its the Year of the Consulship of Titus and Vespasianus", or if an intellectual, "Year 832 since the founding of Rome".

The movement of an Echo device is the least of the annoyances about that futile ad!

      Hehehehehehe...

btw Pompey was a Roman general who died over a century before the eruption of Vesuvius, which destroyed Pompeii, Herculaneum and other places......

      They were relegated shortly thereafter.

  17. On the Talyllyn different colours are used for the different block sections - yellow Wharf-Pendre, red Pendre-Brynglas, blue Brynglas-Quarry as seen here at Brynglas. And no they are not interchangeable (!) but with only four configurations the new tokens in use Abergynolwyn-Nant are yellow and fit in the lowest section. However - there might be questions asked!
