  1. I will run mine, on my layout, and it will proudly take its place alongside my other locos.
  2. Speculators probably, hoping to make a quick buck. I am glad that Hornby have increased the availability, It is good to believe that there will be a sizeable donation to the NHS out of this. I will own mine with pride and give it the best sound decoder I can and get some lights fitted.
  3. Had to be careful about refreshing the page and pressing pre-order, at one stage I had five on order! Thankfully just the one ordered now.
  4. Getting back to more interesting things....I have just been able to place an order for one. Well done Hornby for responding really well despite the huge demand......Marketing Clever?....no, I will shut up.
  5. I am not hooked on Design Clever it is part of the Hornby story and how it has evolved since then: I do not ask or need your comments about it. It was a significant episode in the Hornby history, if you have not got anything sensible to add apart from criticise others....why bother?
  6. Hornby were certainly quick off the mark, considering not too long ago they were in the depths of despair with design clever etc. Nowdays they seem to be able to respond very quickly and have certainly made a few bob on this one. Given Bachmann slow lead in times I would not be expecting anything too soon. However as the model is in their present portfolio we may see one sooner rather than later.
  7. We may be on Covid-21 by the time Bachmann get around to producing one!
  8. Looks like they are all gone now, hoping Hornby will pop another 500-1000 on and just make it available to as many as possible.
  9. Accidentally had five in my cart at one stage then it crashed. Still trying to get through
  10. Yes I did think about Fleming who discovery of Penicillin was the game changer when it came to treating infection. The work Florence Nightingale did in the Crimea set out the blueprint for preventing cross infection, hygiene on wards and much more that has changed little over the years. Both apart from Nightingale being the name of the Hospital and how the ward was set out nothing to do with the 66 thread. When all is said and done hopefully Captain Tom Moore will be remembered alongside these people as a man who never gave up wanting to help people even at 100 years old, so he can stand alongside Fleming and Nightingale as a person who gas gone some way to changing history even if it is slightly different way. He deserves his name on a 66 and more.
  11. Read Florence Nightingales story, no single person in history did more to fight the spread of infection than she did, but its all a matter of personal opinion. As long as those that have given and those that are giving are honoured. I like your 'All Gave Some, Some Gave All' that sums it up really. Whilst the money Toms efforts have raised is incredible, I would say anyone who has made an effort to raise money should be recognised. I suppose money talks though, that's GBP30 million the govt. can withhold from its future funding.
  12. Thanks Jim, and I would say calling the loco 'Nightingale' would have been much more appropriate on so many levels than after Captain (Colonel) Tom Moore. Granted he has given rise to a splendid fund raising effort, but if you are going to honour the'NHS' at least honour a figure who is associated with our health service. Florence Nightingale did more to influence and improve care of infections etc and subsequently save lives than any charity fundraiser no matter how inspirational they are. I do feel a little deflated by this announcement no matter how well intentioned. IF I do buy a model version the first thing I will do is rename it 'Nightingale', my own tribute to my colleagues in the NHS..
  13. Whilst Cap'n Toms achievements are incredibly humbling in these times. It the NHS workers who are being honoured on 66731 not the fund raisers of which there are thousands. So, whilst I applaud Cap'n Tom I would like a more appropriate name that honours those who are actually caring for the sick. I would be all for another loco being named after him, again with a donation to his chosen charity. Someone on another site has said it has been named 'Captain Tom Moore a True British Inspiration' If that is correct then what I have written above is not appropriate any longer
  14. It looks like Hornby are going to miss a trick with only having a passable pantograph, unlike Bachmanns DCC operated one and Many continental offerings having DCC posable pantographs for years now. I suppose if you stick with the 8 pin decoder socket you are always going to be limited to what features you can add, Hornby seem to charge premium prices for less than premium features.

    NHS class 66

Three contenders...question is who can ramp up production of the NHS 66 quickest? (rhetorical question really).
  16. Except that would be out of date, he is now Colonel Tom Moore
  17. Hi Sir TophamHatt Reading through your post again I can see how it may be read two ways. I do see now that your posting was aimed at the naming content, and agree that I mis-read it. My apologies for what must have seemed an over reaction but being close to people on the front line as it were I let emotions take over on the keyboard. I hope you accept my apologies and we can move on back to the topic. Andrew
  18. I would have thought anyone who is aware of, and been affected by Covid-19 would be interested to see something that acknowledges the work that people have done and the sacrifices made by those fighting this disease. It may not be a big deal to you but to those of us who have worked in the NHS and have friends risking their lives every day to help those unfortunate enough to have Coronavirus any token of appreciation (although not asked for) is appreciated. You clearly do not speak for the nation when you say "most people don't really care that much". Sorry its a bit of a rant but it needed to be said.
  19. I'm guessing it will not be named BOJO. Jenny Harries would be appropriate though, she has been excellent throughout.
  20. Regarding the NHS 66, whoever it is named after will be revealed in due course. However, if permission could be sought to run off 66731 in NHS colours with a premium on top of the normal selling price that goes to NHS charities I am sure it would be a good seller. As an NHS employee I would be happy to buy one.
  21. The last thing we need at present is another 66 thread.
  22. I mean Vaseline on the shaft (oh god it sounds even worse!). The bit that potentially rub against the hole that the shaft...........right that’s it Im digging this bloody deep hole. Anyway I will try a glue that is easily removed.
  23. On the plus side, today I received my replacement Axle Box covers (they are tiny aren't they!) I would like to hear from those who have replaced theirs what adhesive they used? I am going to smear a tiny amount of vaseline on the spline to improve movement before I glue them back in. Also on the plus side I received two megabass speakers for my Deltic DP1. So my 66 and Deltic are going to have a 'see who is loudest' competition.
  24. I believe all Hattons staff are working from home now ( except perhaps distribution) so anything technical would probably not be able to be done.
  25. May Seem obvious, but have you means to check whether all the axle boxes are rotating and/or do any of them temporarily 'catch' causing the stall. Certainly seems like something is catching intermittently.
