  1. I agree although there have been plenty of stories of things returned for spurious reasons that had been well packed when sent, but returned smashed, and ebay still refunded leaving the seller with ruined goods. Generally i think the buyer gets the most protection. To put some perspective tho, I use eBay for most purchases, over 1000 deals, and only ever had one issue with some life expired bike parts i bought years ago.
  2. I was refering to what i was about to say about photos!
  3. This is not meant to be a criticism of those taking or posting photos, which I very much appreciate given my dislike of pre-ordering, but it is amazing how ofen the model looks quite a bit different in the flesh. Especially 7mm where perhaps the sheer size probably means any lens distortion is more exaggerated. Some years back someone went to great lengths to prove the original Heljan 47 cab was spot on by overlaying photos and thick red lines. I finally compared it side by side to a JLTRT cab this week and I couldnt believe how far apart two models of the same thing could actually be!
  4. Yes. If you weather the body inside and out - might be worth swapping sides over as well - eventually there will be a loud crack and the battery box will start wobbling. I cant be more precise! Basically they are glued onto the chassis so careful force (or pop it in the freezer to break the joints).
  5. Transport Library and Colourrail are also good sources.
  6. I can understand a reluctance to agree partial refunds personally. As an occassional seller, im always worried i'll be scammed by an unscrupulous buyer trying it on to get a better price. Clearly not the case here but it is open to abuse whereas having the fall back position of a full refund means the buyer is merely disappointed, rather than worse off.
  7. i was editing my post but youve replied before i could finish! Ive combined in the past as well but recently theyve been refusing and said it was because of the 15 % i was after a bogie bolster which they have 57 new but wanted 70 for a very slightly different liveried 2nd hand one, even though i pointed this out to them.
  8. I think the retailer pays for the discount, not ebay. They usually decline offers when one of those discounts is around for that reason.
  9. Even if those were the only differences, you cant actually just take bits of different tools and bung them together. Bachmann's 2HAP EMU comprises two coaches they already made - but they had to start again rather than just adapt what they had.
  10. https://www.rail-online.co.uk/p130586643/heee0056f#heee0056f 4547 at St Ives in early logo green with the angled rainstrips. Also you can just see the portholes on this one. I have clearly spent far too long looking at these :)
  11. Agree with that. 4569 is one I've avoided due to a few of its quirks - not least it had large size totems. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/392445001302 The portholes weren't actually invisible to be fair but they were usually welded flush and has to be an incredibly clear photo to spot the faint outline. 4559 had them proud and also 4561 (I'm sure there were others as ive only looked into specific locos). It looks like the smokebox shed code might be moulded on in which case @railtec-models 3D ones with the rim cut off might be the easiest replacement - unless we could have some special rimless wonders?! Re safety valves, if you dont get both included, people on here might be up for swapping, similarly with roofs.
  12. there are photos up on rails which show them all. https://railsofsheffield.com/collections/lionheart-trains?q=45xx late crest numbered and unnumbered have various differences - roof, rear frames safety valve (do you get both can anyone confirm?) edit: i assume you mean the differences on the models but i have a spreadsheet on St. Blazeys loco variations if of use to anyone! 4559 is similar to the numbered version with the portholes plated over prominently. Most were flush and invisible.
  13. Be aware the act of removing them will polish the area so you'll probably need to varnish afterwards.
  14. you know its still available? https://mm1models.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=731
  15. Funny - I've regularly filed down white metal kits (including windows) and for that matter plastic brake gear/bogies etc to reduce the depth but never occurred to me to do the same trick with glazing!
  16. I think its highly unlikely a 31 could haul a Deltic.
  17. I thought some minerals were retro fitted - the ones with 4 shoe brakes as opposed to the original purpose built fitted ones which were clasp braked, Theres a separate section for them on Pauls site if i recall correctly. Edit: i think after 1960 though as had ruled them out for my period
  18. these any help? https://www.dccsupplies.com/?s=121+exhaust&post_type=product&dgwt_wcas=1
  19. Agreed! Thats very good. Im interested to know how you did this? I'm tarting up a Dapol one in 7mm which is quite a nice model but the prismatic glazing is its weak link. My Warship and 47 would both look better with decent glazing as well so cracking home made replacements would be a useful tip.
  20. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114734127115?chn=ps&var=414891375652&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&itemid=414891375652_114734127115&targetid=293946777986&device=m&mktype=pla&googleloc=9045763&poi=&campaignid=17116423086&mkgroupid=134652533165&rlsatarget=pla-293946777986&abcId=9300856&merchantid=6995734&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIi8bBkZvI-QIVl-7tCh0C_gUnEAQYASABEgKhTfD_BwE Based on this chart I'd say yes as there isnt anything else that would be. No idea how accurate Humbrol colours are though.
  21. Same applies to W*lves. I do hope this is reproduced in full tho? Boing boing!
  22. I have a couple of GWR books from that era and the opposite applies with maroon being used exclusively and crimson not mentioned!
  23. I would argue that 2 or 3 examples is still rarer than hens teeth!
  24. One was posted the last time someone claimed it was wrong. Mogul thread maybe?
