  1. It is neat to see Heljan/Ben participating so openly and directly here. It gives me some confidence that the more significant issues being identified will get fixed before these hit the shelves for real. Inevitably, there is a "signal to noise" factor in distilling what is worth paying attention to, but it sounds like the important stuff is filtering itself to the top of the pond I don't buy many new locos these days, too expensive (please... can we skip the usual heated responses to that kind of statement....) but i will definitely be buying a couple of these. I am pretty confident about making that statement now. I have a couple of old Replica ones that i've put bachy chasss under & have flushglaze to add, i plan to keep those. I also have a shoebox full of various Bachmann and parts ones that all need some work to get them to my intended target state, i'll probably end up finishing a pair of those off because i have two more modern chassis, but likely not any time soon. A Peak model on a par with the other current models out there has definitely been a hole in the market for a long time so i'm looking forward to this arriving :-)
  2. Thank you Roy, appreciate that :-) I was looking to get a sense of how 'heavy-duty' their means of attachment is, so that is exactly the info i was looking for !
  3. Pubs may be closed where you are :-) And yes, I may need a regular headlight on the front depending what prototype i pursue, but it is these lights or cameras i am wondering about:
  4. I am indeed hoping so ! But before i slap 60 of=dd beer tokens down on the counter, i was hoping someone might be able to confirm that from experience kind of thing... A heads up on any non-obvious gotchas would be good. you know, just wondering.....
  5. A quick question on the bright yellow Network Rail 31233 if I may.... Are the additional lights/cameras on the cab & roof line at one end removable ? Are they like a clip-fit or glued on ? A friend is selling one of these at an attractive price, but it is a little too "modern" for my '80s/early '90s era, so am trying to figure out if it is a suitable repaint project for my era... it's this one:
  6. Just to add to the overall theme here, I could only give David Lewis & SP 10/10 as a rating. Extremely helpful and accommodating. I have bought whole kits from him over the years as well as individual parts and 'scratchbuilder combos' of whatever i needed. If he ever re-introduced the Mk.1 SK/TSO and BSK in blue/grey I would be immediately sending him a cheque in 3 figures, I rate them as better than the Bachmann mk.1s :-)

    Panic buying

it may not be as dumb or horrendous as it sounds at first.... after all, mcdonalds food doesn't go off, get moldy or decompose - it may in fact be the best self-preserving "food substitute" the human race has ever invented - will last longer than many things in packages or cans even https://www.today.com/food/mcdonalds-burger-fries-shows-no-sign-rot-after-6-years-t60026
  8. Ironic timing.... I just got my 3-road shed kits out last night to start work on them & was re-reading the instructions... after having just finished the 2nd suspension bridge kit ! Drop me a PM with your email and I'll send them your way :-)
  9. Would anyone have a Battery Box (at least, I think that is what it is) for a Hornby Class 50 ? Maybe someone has a self-destructing one that could be a donor here, CF Botths style :-) Usual story.... I bought a cl.50 off ebay, seller was a little "economical" with the description and selective with the pictures he provided. Oh well.... I can live with the scratches on the body side - it is going to be a test case for some "distressed" weathering, but the missing battery box is something i can definitely use some help with.... Here's a pic of what is missing: and here is a pic of what it looks like from another Cl.50 Thank you :-)
  10. Those Freightflats look like an interesting and eminently doable conversion... does any one know when they were used until ?
  11. Wow.... black livery with white trim would look pretty cool on real life wagons I think :-) The finished wagons are very impressive. Inspiring stuff !
  12. Thank you very much Hugh, you are a star !
  13. Is there any one out there who would be able to scan a copy of the Model Rail article on turning the Dapol crane into a better representation of the Booth Rail crane ? This was in the May 2007 issue of Model Rail. Thank you :-)
  14. Thanks for posting that pic Dave ! I have a couple of those I shall be starting soon, helpful (and nice !) to see the almost-finished product. The Modelux website is still gone, but Gillian is back selling them on ebay again and is as helpful as she was previously: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/lucyfore88/m.html?item=173777790590&hash=item2875f6a67e%3Ag%3AzVQAAOSwFYJb1g-r%3Ark%3A9%3Apf%3A0&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562
  15. Looks good ! I normally produce my own transfers for what I need wagon-wise, but I will definitely be buying a sheet of the 4mm version of this :-)
  16. What about this for a case of slightly different from the standard ? There were a handful of newly renumbered 47/8s running around in 1989/90 that didn't get the full repaint treatment and had some interesting but subtle variations on the theme of normal Large Logo.... Could even be done with Kernow-style weathering a-la 47537... I wonder how well it would do if realised at the same time as some nice white roof Charter mk.1s..... :-) Or, if the folks at Bachmann are getting truly sick of us all bleating about "this number" over "that number"..... what about this one ? Yeah, well.... maybe a "livery variation" that only lasted 2 days is a little much to go for :-)
  17. How about.... - Wagons due scheduled maintenance moving to Doncaster as part of a Speedlink - could be as few as you like, one even... - Freshly overhauled (inc. new paint job) wagons moving back from Doncaster to Tees or Cardiff in a Speedlink - one ex-works wagon was quite common in a Speedlink, or a few of different types. - A handful of BBAs in a GUS service along with other ex-works wagons and whatever weird and wonderful assortment of departmental wagons you fancy - GUS workings could include literally anything and were often used for overflow traffic from regular freight workings - An additional steel working with coils or blooms or empty, something running with a 6Zxx headcode, workings like that could be 3 to 6 wagons, just enough to handle the extra traffic, or move wagons to where they needed to be for the traffic. - RFd-Metals also had workings that provided a mini-network when they pulled out of Speedlink, if you have any SPAs, BAAs, BDAs or RRA type runner wagons, you could put them all together and have a really credible looking service. Stick a 37/5 or 37/9 on the front and boy would that look cool If you want it (a few BBAs)... all you really need is some spare time and Flickr and you will find all the justification you need :-)
  18. I've bought a few Modelux kits in the last 6 months, dealing with "Modelux" both via ebay and their website has been "interesting". Via both means the person I dealt with was Gillian Hope and it was obvious straight away that she was not the person making the kits, I would guess that she was some marketing type front ending the show for the guy with the laser cutter who probably wasn't into doing the marketing piece much - the latter is my conjecture I should emphasise. Most of the instructions were never on the website, you had to email Gillian to ask for them. In dealing with her and paying by paypal there seemed to be 4 separate email addresses that she gave me or had the paypal payments go to. I also bought one kit via ebay from someone else entirely and it came with a funny printed note in it stating that the kit was not sold by Modelux but by some re-seller, and if it took too long to arrive to blame them and not Modelux. The website indeed looks like it has been deleted, on ebay her user ID has changed The most recent feedback on ebay is mainly negative with responses from Gillian saying she is "not Modelux"... Another one of these stories of small manufacturers stories that we see on here all too often. A little sad... I do hope the guy with the laser cutter manages to resurface, I have to say I quite like the kits.... If anyone else is in need of instructions, I have the following and am happy to share..... 2 & 3-Road Victorian Steam Shed 1950s era Diesel Shed Modular Suspension Bridge Dawlish style Footbridge
  19. Holy smoke ! That is incredible !! I don't know which I admire more - the amazing piece of modelling, or the fact that you thought up the idea for this
  20. My experience was pretty similar, Rude, arrogant and entitled are exactly the words I would use too... 1st time I placed an order and weeks passed. I followed up and got a rude email saying that they had been posted and I was out of line wasting his time... Transfers did come a week later with a postmark several days AFTER the date of his email. 2nd time was several years later and I gave him another chance with one of the xx% off sales... sadly, same story, just ruder and nastier. I never did get everything I had paid for. It's one thing to get poor service, it is something else entirely when a vendor just blatantly lies to you - and not just once
  21. Looking at this again, something that's interesting (to me at least...) is that while the outside of the wagon has been completely repainted, the inside has not been repainted at all....
  22. Another OBA example in case it's of any help.... 110637 at York in 1990
  23. You know what... your layout reminds me of those Hornby catalogues from the latter part of the 1970s ! It's like you have captured the general feel and theme of what was depicted in those glossy pages -) Man, how worn and dog eared did those catalogues from that era get ? how many 100s of times did they get flicked through and gazed at back in the days when the volume of everything was so much less than it is today... I still have my catalogues from back then, and they are worn. Still like gold to me as a echo of back then ! Really looks like you have a piece of the 1970s / our childhoods there in your extension !!
