  1. Should be OK then. AFAIK it was just the MR 9ft wb wagons which had the problem.
  2. You don't say which wagons you have. If you have any of the Midland Railway 9ft wb wagons (Coke, 8T 3-Plank, 8T Van, 5-Plank), check that the solebars and headstocks line up when the floor is located in the slot on the ends. They didn't when originally made so it's worth checking.
  3. Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. You used to be able to buy Bachmann replacement (split?) chassis for a Royal Scot. Just by snipping off the rear extension that was a straight swap for the original chassis. Pity they are not available any more.
  4. If you want a LFB Jubilee with decent running qualities, may I suggest that you could put a new chassis under an old Mainline body and detail to taste.
  5. You could always use one of the previous generation Gresley coaches. Much cheaper.
  6. Regions may vary but there used to be a LMR edict that cranes above a certain weight (which included BDCs should be marshalled next to the loco for transit purposes. Obviously the crane needed to be leading into the work site which meant running round at least. The crane would also be trailing off site (as in the pics running wrong road on the ECML) but would be remarshalled for the run back home. Pedant point, The cranes were not uprated to 76 tonnes, they were metricated (pedant mode off). The tank would match the rest of the train i.e. if the crane and vans were red, the tank would be also.
  7. 30 April 1967. Anybody else remember the last rites on the Cromford and High Peak?
  8. Thanks Bob, I never knew that until now.
  9. Just had a first look at this topic but not read all through yet. Has anone else noticed that the B4 bogie in the initial picture is 'as built' without any dampng for the helical springs. I vividly remember being in the cess at the side of the GW main line one day when a Warship went past with some of the B4 bogies in the train pitching like crazy, that being at the time when the pins supposed to be securing the brake blocks were becoming displaced by the pitching and the brake blocks were being thrown about, some going through carriage windows.
  10. There would appear to be two possibilities: 1 Wait until Bachmann do the livery and number you want. 2 Get some transfers for a DIY job. Myself, I would like one with Ramsbottom safety valves and the number on the tender. If Bachmann can do the J11 with different safety valves, why not the 4F? Edited to get the letters in the right order!
  11. Probably - but can't be certain until we see what livery the proposed model actually comes out in as the LMS (as did the other companies) changed their liveries at one time or another. The good thing is that all 4Fs were plain black so repaints or renumberings should be fairly simple.
  12. They used to work through from Leicester.
  13. Probably it's main claim to fame is that it was the first loco to be built at Horwich Works.
  14. With the greatest respect, there are several differencs between the Midland locos and the LMS ones so it's not really duplication in the same way as the A1, the B1 or the 75xxx Standard 4. The two makes of model should compliment each other with most layouts having space for both.
  15. According to David Jenkinson, the splashers were the same size. Oh, and the MR tenders were by Deeley BTW, not Johnson.
  16. Very pleased to hear that someone is to make a proper 'Midland' 4F at last. From the running numbers given above, I am assuming that the model will have beaded splashers. The last batch(es) of Midland builds and all the LMS builds had plain splashers (with LH drive from 4207 of course - except for a batch of ten around 4300 and the SDJR ones).
  17. You only have to visit Peak Rail to see WD150, aka 68013, working most Sundays, topping and tailing with either D8 or 31270. 68013 usually working the Matlock end of the train. While you are at Rowsley though, you might as well visit the HST, if there is anyone there you may get a personal guided tour as I did on Sunday.
  18. According to the HST chap I spoke to this morning, the HST do own an Austerity 0-6-0ST but 'Royal Pioneer' ain't it. The Austerity which nowadays carries the name 'Royal Pioneer' (except it wasn't this morning) is currently masquerading as '68013' (one of the C&HPR locos). It carries a plate proclaiming it to have been rebuilt by Hunslet of Leeds as works number 3892 of 196x (the last digit is missing).
  19. Been a while since I posted on this thread. First are some pics of an ex LNWR Goods Brake Van used as a Crossing Keeper's cabin at Meardsall Crossing on the Nottingham to Lincoln line. I took them some time in the late 1970s or early 1980s I think. I very much doubt if it is still there: One that is still there, near Youlgreave in Derbyshire or is it Youlgrave? This is the remains of an ex LMS design Goods Van:
  20. There is a photo in one of the Bradford Barton books, something like 'Steam in the Peak District', which shows 'The Palatine' climbing up past Chinley North Junction behind a rebuilt Patriot in the late 1950s. That train, which is otherwise all BR Mark 1s, includes a 12 wheel Restaurant Car.
  21. Push-Pull mode ??? Or do you mean hidden out of sight ?? I have D5711 and D5714 in original green - no yellow.
  22. I agree the underneath plumbing is very delicate. The first comment I got when running mine round the club layout was that a buffer was missing (into oblivion), then one of the cab handrails fell off - I did manage to find that though - these would appear to be showcase models, not 'playing trains' models. Still to rewire to go the right way!
  23. I would query the "late 1962" date as I have a colour slide of the last three at Derby and I ddin't start taking slides until October 1963 when I bought an Agfa Sllette. IIRC they were 43342, 43658 and 43669. That doesn't say when they last worked though.
