Just a quick question, are you modelling in “OO”?
-
Andrew,
I seem to remember that Tim Venton had a similar problem when he was building a need chassis for a 55xx.

What variety of Bachman Pannier is it - one of the original one or the Bachman re-vamp?
-
Which version on Bachmann 57xx do you have, the original or the Bachmann update version?

According to an article by John Lewis diagram AA16 was issued in 9/19 to cover all surviving outside frame timber-framed brake vans.
The diagram showed it had self-contained buffers, 8 wheel clasp brakes and OK oil type axelboxes, but he noted 'not all received all modifications'. Some also received instanter couplings and an odd one or two screw coupling.
-
Am I correct in thinking you are using standard thickness sleepers, and not full depth ones?
-
Looks like you have been burning the midnight oil. I see in the last photo you have removed the buffers - are you planning on replacing them?

The book with the complete history of the Iron Mink GPV's is "all about GWR Iron Minks" which was published by the HMRS, I think it was published in the 1980's but it detail of all the Iron Minks variants built by the GWR and also all the Welsh railways.

I like your approach to the models which are being produced. May I ask what media and which colours were used to produce the realistic gable end and more specifically the stone quoins ? Happy modelling enjoy.
The model is .040" plastic sheet covered Wills corse stone sheet, the quoins are Evergreen strip. The first photo, taken in 2004, shown the station building as it was then, as a private dwelling, will be used to get the colour right.

You know what they say Tim about waiting for good things to happen.
-
I have one of the Ratio models in my to-build bin but I have one of the 'Morgan Design' underframe kits together with of his solebars kits.
-
I've used EZ line for my GW lineside fenching instead of what was supplied in the Ratio kit, much finer. By the way what have you used to stick the EZ line to the plastic posts?
But what are the wooden dowels sticking out of the back or is it the front of the layout for?

Ullypug you might have a word with the chaps who are building Sandford & Banwell, I saw it at the Uckfield show, as I'm sure they have lasercut the bargeboards. Its will be at the Epsom show this April.and I've added the url for Uckfield for you.

Tim,
Thanks for that - I think its off to the hobby shop and then practice of some scrap brick plactic sheet before I start on the goods office.

-
Can you provide some information on the brick work as I have to paint a brick goods office attached to a stone goods shed, e.g. what water colour paint have you used for the morter colour.
-
Can you give me more details on the 12v power supply units you are using?
-
Frank you are likely not to have exhibited down south yet and so been visited by "the commentator". As the name suggests he keeps up a running commentary on what is going on, i.e. "now the Pannier is shunting the well wagon into the back siding". Such are the joys of exhibiting.

Re your unfortunate experience with a Coopercraft 4 plank. If you look at my blog
http://hallatrow.blogspot.co.uk/2010/08/its-august-it-must-be-wells.html
you will see one of my Coopercraft 4 & 5 plank wagons. They both have etched solebars and Exactoscale sprung underframes and brake gear. The etched solebars were done for my my Ivan Smith of Southwark Bridge Models but he has sine incorporated them into his kit for GW 16ft wagons which includes the solebars, brakes, DC brake bits and tarp rail frames. I see they are not on his web site but I'm sure he will send you details.
The whole thing was designed as a replacement for over thick solebars and although I've used Exactoscale underframes they will equally work with Bill Bedford's.
Also there is an interesting article on improving Coopercraft wagons published some years ago (in the 1979) by the EM Gauge Society. If you would like a copy I will did it out and can send it to you.

Mikkel,
Re comment about "only lowly farm animals' bring transported in tarpaulin covered cattle wagons. I have see a photo were a whole regiment of cavalry were being transported to summer camp on Salisbury Plane where the officers' chargers were in horse boxes but the troopers' were in tarpaulin covered cattle wagons.

Tim,
I very much like the brickwork on the shunter cabin, I've tried severe times but can't seem to get the mortar off the brickwork. What paints did you use and what is your technique?
-
I did not know that Shawplan did glazing for the Bachmann 'Toad' or is it a special?
By the way wen't you going to re-glaze an Airfix 'B' set?
-
I must have missed the first two parts of this conversion method - I've just used the Ultrascale dropped in wheel sets onmy 45xx although it will be getting a new Comet chassis in the further.
However, in part 1 you say you removed one of the Bachmann transfers. I want to do the same with my 45xx, i.e. removed the late 30's G.W.R and replace it with a 1920's Great Western.
What did you use to remove the transfer with?
-
I believe that Dart Castings do a lever and base set that can be used for either in a signal box a ground frame - well that's what they say.
-
When I detailed the underframes of my Airfix (E140) B set I used brass angle for the trussing - fiddly bur worth it in the long run.
Concerning having laser cut glazing - please let me know how you get on as I have a "K" 'B' set to build and I would in the market forsome decent windows.
