  1. Hi Jesse, If you need red oxide, Dulux Metalsheild Red Oxide undercoat in a spray can available from Bunnings is a excellent match to Red Oxide of the BR box vans. I will have to check when I next go out to the shed. If it is different title/description I will let you know. Mark
  2. Doug, we have a Perrows Paint outlet here in Bendigo which supplies paint for the Auto Industry. They can match any colour you require. Mark
  3. Hi Jack, Fantastic stuff. Very enjoyable read. Just been through the whole thread. I have 10 Southern locos, mostly in BR, the T9 is 120 and the SECR C both preserved at the Bluebell Railway which I visited in 2011. My main modelling area is LNER and some BR Eastern Region. I would try and plan a trip to the UK if possible and put the Bluebell on the the plan to visit. Well worth it. Mark across the ditch (Oz)
  4. Hi Doug, I have thought about joining the NERA on the odd occasion, but like yourself not done it. I have checked there sight and they have a listing of articles in their 'Express' journal. It looks like they have an articles on 6 wheel Clerestory coaches and others. So maybe go through and see if there is anything that is relevant to you. Mike I am watching with interest in your LRM G5 construction. Looking good. Mark
  5. I would add the following to those listed above. LNER numbers quoted, NER in brackets. A G5(O) 0-4-4t for branch line work and some suburban. Either a N8(B) and N9 (N) 0-6-2T. The small but nimble Y7/Y8(H/K) 0-4-0T and possibly the Electrics, EE1, EF1/EB1 and ES1. Y7 and ES1 preserved. The G5 being a new build at the moment. Then there are the Thompson rebuilds. Probably unlikely, but you never know. But for end of LNER and BR modellers there are a number of ready to run models. Peppercorn A1 and A2, Gresley A3 and A4, B1, D49 though Railroad, J36, J39, J72, K1, L1, Q6, V2, V1/V3 and EM1. Other LNER locos wandered into NER/Sc territory and even Castle's and Hall's just to name 2 I know of. I for one am hoping for a J21 next, otherwise its a hunt to find a kit. Mark in Oz
  6. "Not long now to the announcement of the A2/3, and the retooled Gresleys, including a Dia 144 RC and a triplet set. We shall have a couple more pictures to while away the time until we see confirmation." Unfortunately none of the above. I have a Comet Triplet set. Retooled Gresley's would be nice, but I have enough. An A2/3 would be a nice addition. I doubt we will see one in a very long time, if ever. A Toad B/E is coming though. Something for us eastern modellers. Nice set of photos too. Mark
  7. 9pm Australian Eastern Standard Time.
  8. I have seen this before. Great piece of footage behind a C7 pulling open wagons. The Dyno car looks like it is still in NER colours. No teak look of the LNER and Preservation. That maybe another model for the future to get another run out of it. Are you going to supply four figures as per the footage? On that note how easy is it to pull the coach apart and put some in? Mark
  9. I think the horse has bolted on this one. It is now 2018. We will just have to do with what was done and put it down as a incorrect move on Hornby's part. I think they have acknowledged the mistake. Mark
  10. I didn't make any BRMA meetings this year. Just didn't work out. I plan to make a couple this year and the convention. Maybe it is time to have a meeting up here again if it can be arranged. These coaches will be painted LNER teak. The interiors have been completed in 4 of the coaches. I have worked out that I have 19x 61' Gresley's, 2x Non-Corridor coaches in kit form. Not all will be painted teak. I might do some in BR Maroon or Blood and Custard. These are not available ready to run so help make up a proper train. I have 4 Hornby Gresley 61' Teaks, 5x Non-Corridors and 7x Gresley 61' in Blood and custard. I also have a LNER Coronation set to build. Mark
  11. Hi Jeff, Happy New Year to you. Hope you had a good Christmas. Looks like some progress is happening on the layout including a fair bit of rolling stock. I have been busy too, though it is taking a while. These off course are for the north east of the Thames. All Gresley coaches in process. From front to back. Brake 3rd (4compt), Brake 3rd (5 compt), Composite End Vest, 3rd EV, 3rd just in the picture. Apologies for poor picture. I did take another one but did not appear in program. It will be slow for a while as I have work to do at home this week and back to work the following week. Hope to catch up some time, maybe at BRMA meeting somewhere. Mark
  12. And there is MJT Scale Components (Mike Trice) owned by Dart Castings. http://www.dartcastings.co.uk/mjt.php Mark
  13. Then that will be 2 on the list for 2018. (LN & J21) Mark
  14. Hi Tony, I have done a bit of searching or is that 'Googling' regarding Gresley Underframes. Not the Cricket bowling variety either. Though England could use a bowler with the skill at the moment. My concern was the instructions for the Kirk Kits says to put the Battery Boxes on one side only. This is incorrect for all but the Bogie Full Brake Van. There were 2 sets of V hangers and the kits do not include Reserve Vacuum Tanks. I looked on the old Comet website and found some diagrams of the roof, Floor and underframe viewed from below. I bought some MJT parts from Dart Castings which arrived the week before Christmas. Using the MJT Reserve Vacuum Tanks for size and depth, I have constructed the reserve Vacuum tanks out of the plastic Sprue that comes with the kits. Photo below shows progress on one of the four coaches. The body is ready for painting the undercoat. This will be sprayed. The rest will be hand painted to get the teak effect. The Roofs will need Alarm gear, Grab handles, destination boards and steps at the ends made. Mark
  15. The Nu-Cast LNER Sentinel Railcar with other items of the Nu-Cast range were bought by South Eastern Finecast. Earlier this year they released several items including the Sentinel Railcar for GBP95. I do not know if it is still available. I read that the body is a bit heavy for the Tenshodo Spud, but not the Black Beetle Motor, so have held off buying one. I have some drawings of it so am thinking I might scratch build one in plasticard. I have a Hornby DMU motor to fit. Mark
  16. Tom's footage is excellent. Very enjoyable. All this talk about filming for dvd's of Little Bytham both with LNER and BR Stock sounds great. Looking forward to it all. Would it be possible to include the descriptive details of the trains, such as type of train, destination, Loco pulling the train, Rolling Stock? That would be a challenge and understand it would take up much time and research, though I think you have already done the research. So may be the better option is to limit it to a few interesting trains. Maybe some subtitles would work. Just a thought. Also I have been going through past entries from the start regarding the undercarriages of Gresley stock. I remember seeing it back a little a photo of the undercarriage of one, but can not find it. I have been back to page 800 Up to about 80. Could you please post one with angle trussing? Is that possible? I have made a little bit of progress on the 4 Kirk Gresley's I have on the go over the last few days. I will take a photo and post it soon. I did also ask on Gilbert's Peterborough thread. Wishing you and Mo, and all those who read this a merry Christmas and a great New Year. Thanks Tony, for the great discussions and thought provoking debate. Not to mention the photos and progress of Little Bytham. Mark.
  17. Hi Andrew, I had to cancel coming to the BRMA Convention as I was snowed under with work and everything else. As it happened that I had that dreaded flu that very weekend. So would have cancelled last minute anyway. Would not like to pass that on. Winter here in southern hemisphere. We will have to catch up. My wife and I are off to China for a holiday in late April for 10 days, so maybe after that. I have checked out where the Railway Museum is in Beijing, so a visit is on the cards. A 6 hr Fast Train ride from Beijing to near Shanghai is planned. Last time I planned to come I got busy. Mark
  18. Hi Tony, I have painted a Silver Jubilee set. Below is the procedure I followed I masked all the windows, by laying painters masking tape across each side and cutting very carefully along the edge of each window. I then stuck each side to a piece of flat timber with blu-tack and then undercoated them all together. Then I did the Ends. Then I painted the top coat on the sides and ends with an airbrush. Then I glued all the pieces together. Once the bodies and underframe skirts were done, I used a Silver lining pen to line all the windows and across the bottom and middle beading to look like Stainless Steel. It requires a bit of practice to get a consistent line I also painted the lower insides. Not that you see it. This is the same method I will use to paint the Coronation except that it is two tone. This will require masking the top when painting the Garter Blue. So painting the Marlborough Blue will be first, then the bottom half with Garter Blue. The masking is planned for winter nights if I can make the time. That is the goal for 2018. I will paint the insides too. Photo below is an old one from 2008. The set needed finishing off some small details. This is a test on the club layout Oakham. Sorry tony No Lamps. They are on now. Thanks for asking. Mark
  19. Thanks Phil. I have seen Kirks with such an arrangement. Flush or near to flush windows. He had 3 and I asked him how he did them. He said he squared off the windows and used digital vernier calipers to measure the size of each. Yes it will take some time, so for now I will build them with thin acetate inside. I have allowed for this when building the interiors. So will check what clear material I have and need and work it all out. I will look at Comet's website and check coach details. I should say that I picked up from the same deceased estate two small etch brass coaches. A 6 wheel GNR full brake and a GER Inspectors saloon coach. This will give me some to practice on. I have not used any MJT, Comet, Bill Bedford or other etch brass kits yet. I do have 247 Developments LNER TPO sides. I have been buying up the rest of the parts along the way. I have a Mailcoach Coronation set to build and about 6 Loco kits to do. I think that will keep me going for a few years yet. Re: the Triplet set, as I think I indicated, I have a Comet kit which was built, I just had to finish off the interior and roof. SO I can use that as a guide. Though getting a set of drawings sounds very tempting. I can add it to my collection of posters. Silver Jubilee, On Early Shift, A1 Tornado, D10 Walter Burgh Gair and a couple of others. I too like the few from the bridge. That curve gives the viewer something to look at. Especially with a few trains passing. Mark
  20. Thanks for the replies. That is very helpful. Yes it is a bit difficult from Bendigo OZ. In 2011 I did see and walk through the Gresley Coaches at the Severn valley Railway, but did not think to take photos of the carriage prints. Mostly long views inside. Thanks Mark
  21. Hi Gilbert, Evocative photos. You mention/have a photo of a Kirk Gresley. It does highlight the thickness of the moulding. You also mention that you have flush glazed some. What have you used and how have you done it? I know South Eastern Finecast do some, but are these not for the old Hornby Gresley's. Do they fit Kirk's? I will be interested in what you have done. Can you show some photos? I have 4 Kirk's in production on my work bench and was planning to flush glaze at some point. None are available Ready to run. Body work done, Internals complete. I have another 16 or so. These were bought off a deceased estate for 10 Aussie dollars each, that's about 5.5pound. It includes a Rest Triplet set. I already have a Comet set. Also 2 Non-corridor kits. I have another 2 questions. The Kirk instructions say to put the Battery boxes on one side only on the under carriage/floor. Yet Hornby and Steve Banks and others have them on both sides. Does this apply to all the Gresley's. I have Michael Harris', Nick Campling's books and other general LNER books and this is hard to see the precise details. Can you post some photos of the under carriages as well? I will leave it as one side only for now as if it is 2 then I can add some later. I will continue to search the books, internet and forums, including Mr T Wrights listing. Do you know where can you get Carriage prints, etc for OO gauge coaches (Gresley's). Thanks for your and others help too. Mark in OZ
  22. The latest Locomotion post arrived yesterday. Due March. Mark We are sorry to inform you that we will not see delivery of the Single before Christmas, however, as you can see from the pictures of the latest EP sample, the model looks magnificent and we are now really looking forward to the delivery of this model in March. If you have one or two on order, we will be in touch with a confirmed delivery timeline and asking you to pay the balance unless you have already paid up in full.
  23. Drank a couple bottles of water and soft drink. Oh, and the bridge in the second photo between the two bottles. Have a great day. Hope all runs well. If any thing goes wrong it is usually when others are watching. I did notice you had a Coronation set (or is it a west riding set?). Which make is it and where did you get it? Is a kit or rtr model? Mark
