  1. Excellent photos. Did anyone give the security bunny a drinks break? He looks like he was wrecked. Too much work. give him a pint. Always interesting to see what people look at on exhibition layouts. Mark in OZ
  2. Thanks Robert for posting a short chronology of the layout with photos. I just wonder how the family coped with that large baseboard in the house. Also the operational sequence is great stuff. Thank you to Tony for his superb photos. I think another book could be in the offing. 'A lifetime of LNER Locos and rolling stock on Grantham.' You could produce all these photos in a book and I would buy it. Excellent stuff. Mark in Oz
  3. Very nice work Graeme. Now you know when you just finish this the r-t-r manufacturer will announce the upgraded body. Keep up the good work and keep us informed. Nice to see your Fiddle yard Tony. A lot of excellent (ECML) stock is stored there. Mark in OZ
  4. Unfortunately no. I have been following his thread and it looks excellent. Worth seeing sometime. Mark
  5. Like the minature track diagram. Looks good. something different in NSE. To me it stands for Not so exciting, but thats my preference. The heat this week has caused some issues. My layout in the shed seems to have coped well. I only noticed a little distortion of the track in the tunnel - under a lift up section. Went to my club today and some track distortion has occured. A little tweeking on one join and my A4 and B17 ran on Oakham okay. I will be heading to Geelong next week. Looking for an small N gauge layout for Bendigo MREx at Easter. Otherwise we are full, though waiting to hear confirmation from one club about attending. Mark
  6. Well done Peter, like that fact that you have done the Christmas wrapping while the trains are running. The Ixion arrived this morning and was tested on the work bench. Runs nicely. The VLine trains do sit well in those scenes. Maybe an Upper quadrant would do. Merry Christmas. Mark
  7. Hi Nelson, Looks like a good plan to have a colliery on the extension. Gives your coal trains somewhere to go and for some interesting shunting. Hopefully we will see al least one of those above mentioned locos announced very soon. I have a G5, a J21 or J25 and a Q6 or Q7 at the top of my list for my NE branch of Ponteland. I did pick up a DJH Q7 built of ebay OZ for only A$71 about GBP40 a few month ago. It needed better pick ups, so I added PCB and nickel siler wire to the front and rear driving wheels, which improved running a great deal, but still is a bit noisy and not as good at slow running, crawling that is. For that price I can use it for practising my kit building skills as there also was no brakes fitted. If there is no J21 or J25 announced in the next few months I may buy a London Road models kit and have a go at building one. Keep up the good work and a few photos too. very inspiring Mark in OZ
  8. "Mark in Oz so needs an O7 (WD)! Comes with one of the best steam chassis ever offered in plastic bodied RTR OO, and the overall rendition is very good. Adding to its charms, can still be got for a soon to be 'nostalgic' price." 34.... Oh no, what have I done. I was at a BRMA ( British Railway modellers of Australia) meeting near Melbourne today and I looked through the for sale bins and lo and behold a Bachmann WD for A$60, thats about £35apx. It was originally a Dutch version, so is a little more grey than black, but with some weathering it should come up fine. BR decals on tender are nicely done, just some numbers on the cab. It was tested before purchase and a very good runner as you say. Also got an Hornby A3 Galtee More and Bachmann wagons. Nice layout too, about 32-35ft x 15ft apx. Mark in OZ
  9. Hi Mick, Like the Y7 and C1. I have my DJH C1 in front of me now. It was working very well on the layout one day and then not the next. Have just sorted out the short with a wire touching a bare spot on the chassis. It picks up on one side of the loco and the other side on the tender. Not my prefered method, but I did not build it. AN ebay purchase. Mine is missing the builders plates, but will get some soon. How did you set up the pick ups on the C1? Is there a fall plate for the driver and fireman? Must have been very drafty on the footplate. I think I recall seeing a photo of a Y7 with a 2/3 plank wagon with coal in it a long while back. Where I do not know. Mark
  10. Thanks guys for the advice. I didn't know whether to select the 'thanks' or the 'funny' icon. May just have to look into a 07 - WD. A friend has the desert sands model which looks quite impressive, but black is the way to go. I will check the wallet to see whats in it. Oh no, I will be broke after that. Mark in Oz
  11. The cad drawings look good. Those who are more knowledgable about the details will obviously know if they are correct or there are to be some minor tweeks. I was disppointed that the original GNR cab version is not in the mix. So won't be buying one of these with the side windows. But the price of an GNR cab will shoot up higher if it gets produced and that is likely to be 2016-7. That would be a different matter, I would fork out good money for one. I have a Thompson 01, a Robinson 04 and a Stanier 8F (LNER 06), so more than enough 2-8-0's. Mark in OZ.
  12. I have made several orders with them over the years and have had excellent service. Like their excellent figures. Mark In OZ
  13. Hi Al, Have been watching this thread for a while and your progress. It looks like you are doing an excellent job. I have been looking through my photos of Wellingborough and Bakewell model Railway layout here in OZ, but found this on youtube today. I hope you like it. I think it looks like the same place you are modelling. Mark in OZ
  14. Re; The horses for shunting. An idea. You could motorise a box van, fix the horse via rods, representing chains, to the buffer beam. The horse would have to be elevated so as to clear the track. Interesting idea and a novelty at an exhibition. agree with the sentiments re backhead. Mark in OZ
  15. Looks great and runs sweetly too I would think. How are you going to paint the driver and fireman? Mark
  16. Thank you everyone who gave some advice and posted photos. I have decided having received an email response from Jeremy from Digitrains about parts they put together and added sound file of a B1. So will go ahead with that. Even if it doesn't suit the 01, it will go in my Hornby B1. so no waist. and a good price at that. Mark.
  17. I think I am tempted to book my flight just to see that. Mark in OZ
  18. Congratulations Chris on such a marvellous acheivement. Have enjoyed you input into my modelling skills. God bless MArk in OZ
  19. Thanks 7013, It was a couple of pages back. I will look into it. I think someone also used an 04 decoder. Mark in OZ
  20. Hi, I wish to add dcc sound to my Hornby 01. What is the best option here? I should say that I wish to buy a ready to buy, off the shelf decoder and speaker unit. I don't wish to tackle anything technical. So please do not suggest buy this decoder, speaker and download soundfiles, etc, etc. I just don't have the time or skills. I have checked youtube for suggestions, also have contacted Rails of Sheffield, Howes and looked at Olivias trains which have them listed and was referred to by the youtuber. Thanks for the help in advance. Mark in OZ
  21. I was wondering how it would look from the three feet eye level view (punter's view). Apparently very well. Nice set of photos too. Mark in OZ

    Hornby P2

Hi Graham, Did you get to see it moving at all? If so, what are your thoughts? Finally did you get any footage? Yes I agree its most likely the best and most unique RTR 4mm loco to date. Mark in OZ

    Hornby P2

Looks like an excellent model. I have one on order so can not wait to see it. It will go nicely next to the P2 Streamline Thane of Fife I have already. Mark in OZ

    Hornby P2

Hi Jeff, How could you think of doing such a thing to a locomotive of such beauty and granduer. Re: City of London name. Hornby could do a B17/6 streamlined City of London in LNER apple green. Could use a A4 body cut down and tender. Thats enough from me. Mark
